I'm not calling them dumb either, I'm just saying the cultural legacy that makes Riverdale possible is not something they're familiar with and perhaps this is why they took so much of it at face value. Do you have another explanation for their filtering? I cited specific evidence of people clearly from the zoomer generation not getting it, again not talking about all zoomers. Riverdale is ostensibly "set in high school" but it goes off the rails fairly quickly kek, certainly its audience wasn't all in high school and it's not really about representing high school life or anything like that. There's plenty of "set in high school" film/TV that is for older audiences. Riverdale also has a ton of issues but a lot of the critical discourse around it online is by people (markedly mostly zoomers, but not all or even most zoomers) who did not understand it.
