What the FUCK was this bullshit? It totally jumped the shark with the ice skating scene 3/4 of the way through, but it was TOTALLY different thematically than the original movie...The original was a creepy serial killer movie with subtle supernatural elements. This was Freddy vs Jason with a silly oni mask.Fuck modern horror movies, they all suck.
>subtle

The first film didn't warrant a sequel at all
Horror movie sequels are almost always bad, it's a classic hollywood cashgrab tactic

Waiting for my friends Mike and Jay to make a video before I form an opinion on it.
>>215579393A lot of people were laughing in the theater during this movie. It was pretty damn corny. I had high hopes because the first one was original and tense.
>>215579393>Freddy vs Jasonso kino schlock?
>>215582235Mike will say it's schlocky crap and Jay will say that the acting and cinematography were impressive and compare it to his previous work in college.Mike will tear apart the skating scene.Jay will say that there is a subtlety to the grabber character. Mike will counter by asking why people would ever care about the grabber as a horror movie staple such as freddie kruger. You have heard the words of the oracle!
>Fuck modern horror movies, they all suck.yeah
Was the first movie really that successful? I'm trying to remember if there were any really good hooks. Iirc,>Gratuitous nostalgia shotsThey really wanted to make sure you knew it was the 80s or whatever>Serial killer thing going around townA few people talked about the grabber (I think) which created a little bit of tension, but it's not like this is crazy unique >Little bit of kinetic action The serial killer has a couple scenes where he grabs kids>All deaths are off screenIirc there's no scenes where the boys actually die, it's just implied and the graves are later shown. It's not like I "need" death scenes but they're just not giving me much>The phoneWas interesting, I guess. Somewhat unique. I think there were a few calls where the kids wanted the living boy to do something that ended up not factoring into his escape, so it felt like they meandered a littleThey didn't even go in on the detective story, trying to find the killer. They literally just waited for the little girl to have a dream (also not really explored, she just "has them" and it makes her dad angry?) and then raided a house based on that info and actually just about left before they realized they needed to check the basement. ALL of the "action" was basically in the basement, where the living kid is talking to the dead kids. The worst thing we see the creepy mask dude do is bring him milk and cookies or something. Did people like this??
>>215584542It made hundreds of millions on an indie movie budgetHorror movies are pumped out for a reason. They’re cheap as fuck and far more profitable than the average movie. Also audiences are more forgiving of a movie being kind of shitty as long as it scares them a little. It’s why any audience score below an A is seen as a major bad sign for a blockbuster, unless the movie is a horror movie. Then it can be anything from C to B and still make bank
>>215584542>>215584656It's not even a particularly creepy mask...reminiscent of a traditional japanese oni (demon type). Plus, in the second movie they tear the mask off and he has no recognizable face--it's not even ethan hawke in a mask which was what made the first movie creepy. It was a normal human that was kidnapping boys and keeping them in his cellar until he murdered them. The ending of the second movie was also awful because the last lines of dialogue are "so what do you think of your sister dating that pajeet?" and "that cowboy girl named mustang who barely had 5 min of screentime and no character arc/interaction with the boy sure is cute--would you be into her?" as asked by the father in his shitty truck that he somehow got to all the way to the camp, even though the ex-con mexi dude that owns the camp "called in a favor" to a friend to clear the roads (which apparently didn't happen since the dad had a plow blade on his truck and I believe at some point in the film when he is reintroduced he states that he made his way there independently. Not sure why he came to the camp anyway though--he knew his kids were going to be counselors for the whole season. It was just a blizzard.Extremely weak plot. I also never felt scared or even nervous through the entire film. Mostly I just kept watching cause the main guy was eyecandy.
Must have been an easy gig for Ethan Hawke. Mainly voice work.
