No, he was just too fat for what the role was meant to be. He was supposed to have lost weight to look malnourished, instead he came in fatter than before.

he looks imposing and the physical transformation aspect is still present.

He was written to be a 40 year old green beret in peak physical condition. He's much fatter than that, hence the shadows. Fortunate hurdle though because filming him predominantly in shadow works so well.

You don't get it. In Polynesia, fat men are seen as virtuous.

he was that, but by the time he is seen on screen he is no longer that. i think his fatness makes much more thematic sense.

It would make no sense for him to look malnourished,he was treated like Jesus in that village,he could eat as much as he wanted.I prefer that he looks like that because he also looks bigger than everyone around him

No, if watch the doc or read about the behind the scenes, when Willard meets him he was supposed to be on the verge of death, almost skeletal, just like the book. Brando pretty much ignored Coppola's request and Coppola had to 'write around' Brando's fatness.

Coppola wrote that into the script to justify why Brando was fat.

He's in a war-torn Cambodian village and is peddling the message of soldiers doing all it takes to win the war and even specifically mentions restraining luxuries. He likely wouldn't be eating to excess, even if there was abundant food available which there seemingly is not.

Still is. Only fat fucks think being a disgusting blob is a good thing.

Being a mini-mod is the only thing that's not morbidly obese about you isn't it

He was supposed to be dying of malaria and whatever other various tropical diseases he'd picked up. Read the source material.

My benis is quite smol.

His bulk makes him more imposing. which helps the movie. Brando was right.
