1-3 is complete kino. 4 is mid, but worth it for 5, and 5 works as a great series finale. 6-7 would be worth it if the 7 finale was decent, but it's pretty lame.
I read some of the comics too, but I don't remember them at all.
I gotta watch Angel. Never got around to it because the place I got the Buffy DVDs cheap never had it. Someone rank the Angel seasons for me.

dunno, but two would be at the top for me since it maintained the original shlocky motw appeal until angelus hijacks the season and gives the team the most compelling and heart-rending trouble that they're never really able to capture again
season 3 on its own has the best material per episode but for me it's marred by how unenjoyable bad faith is to watch for me plus angel coming back from a perfect s2 death and just kind of lingering

Spike showing up as second lead and challenging Angel's two different tv series long arc of "feel bad for me my poor soul in a vampire body" really blew the narrative up. But in a good way, (I think.)
Angel was a more adult show right off the bat but season 5 really solidified the grey area they live in, and how sometimes evil is necessary to destroy "bigger" evil.
Thematically that final Angel season touched hard on things Buffy was too afraid to even hint at.

Sure, for me S1 is solid for the world that it establishes and the show feels more organic as it allows the audience to get more readily acquainted with the characters.

S2 was great because it introduced Spike and further developed Angel's characterisation and he played a great antagonist. Also liked the juxtaposition between the purity of Angel's soul being lost with the loss of Buffy's "innocence", actually allowed for some interesting tension.

4 was just a great watch for me, fun storylines that didn't take itself too seriously as nice to see Buffy venture into the world on her own without Giles' constant supervision and have to grow into herself more.

3 was great, it's honestly more dead even with 4 but I haven't seen it in while so maybe I'd like it more on a rewatch. The dynamic between Faith and Buffy was good and the parallels between them and the relationships with their mentors (Mayor and Giles) lent to one of my favourite episodes in S4.

I thought I'd love 5 more with that great series opener but it kind of fell flat for me other the finale. Plus I kind of hated Dawn at that time, and 6 was just a bit too all over the place even though the thematic exploration of "being ripped out of paradise" had great potential.

Yes angel overall is better than buffy but I see both together as the same show and watch the episodes back to back with some exceptions.
S5 of Angel is one of my favourite seasons of television.
Also Wesley is the best character in the verse.

I'm watching S2 right now and I don't see how it's better than S1. It was X-Files for teenage girls before, sure, but now everyone is in some kind of relationship with constant drama, and what's with all the fucking making out scenes.

4 has some great solo episodes and character moments, but the Initiative/Adam storyline is not that good and is part of these good episodes in some ways.
1 is underrated. It has that great lower budget feel to it. 2 is better, but at the same time you can see how much of a hack Whedon is. It' basically Sailor Moon when Tuxedo Mask becomes a bad guy. And 5 is when the kid sister is memory forced in Usagi's life. And Angel is Forever Knight meets The Tomb of Dracula comics. And Firefly is Starhunter US version.
The shows are enjoyable, but Whedon is still a fucking hack.
7 has some good episodes, but it felt cheaper. I kind of liked the whole changing how the Ubervamp worked after Angel made the deal with W&H in his show. From holy water working and stakes not, to holy water not working and stakes just needing more force to work. So W&H wanted Buffy to make the Slayer army, I guess, since the only way to fight the Ubervamps would be to make all the potentials into Slayers with supertrength. Maybe they had plans for them after turning Angel to their side?

I liked the change in style to the show has it went on. It never stagnated. s4 slowmo fights/power walks would have been hard to take for 5 seasons, but worked for s4, for example.
I liked 4 better than 3, and 3 better than 5, but the difference is negligible to me. All great seasons.
At the time I liked Buffy more than Angel, but now I like Angel more.
