The only interesting thing you can really do with her is to kill her off to establish how powerful and dangerous a new enemy is. You show her as the head of a new Jedi academy, everyone is super impressed with what an overpowered Mary Sue she is and then the new villain shows up and she sacrifices herself to save our new cast of characters who now have to rise to the occasion.That's the only thing you can do with her. She's too powerful and too perfect to make a compelling protagonist at this point.

We already experienced her story. They didn’t write anything for her development except a psychic connection to Kylo, and having no parents on Jakku (Tattooine 2). The Palpatine connection is frankensteined onto her story. The “I’m Rey Skywalka” is frankensteined onto her story. I’d give it a pass if the movies were about Rey, but they really weren’t. They were about the remnants of the empire somehow gaining ultimate power offscreen. Unwatchable.

The "Somehow Palpatine has Returned" line is symbolic of everything in that movie. Nothing makes sense, its just one brain dead ass pull after another to try and cobble together an ending to a story that was destroyed in the prior film. Rey ascends to even greater levels of Mary Sue and the heroes no one cares about beat the villains that didn't even exist in the prior film.The whole thing is an utter train wreck, I really can't believe they fucked it up as hard as they did. They could have made a lazy fan service trilogy TFA style and printed money; but instead Kathleen Kennedy gave Rian Johnson the green light to put the whole series through a meat grinder and burn billions of dollars of profit in the process.
