The 'Tears in the Rain' speech means a lot more to me because I have early onset Alzheimer's. I can feel the memories leaving me, slipping through my fingers, I want to cry anytime someone brings up something and I just don't remember any of it. I find myself confused at the most ordinary things, I want to fix myself, but I can't. I can just sit back and wait for everything that was me is lost to time, only remembered by others.

ROY BATTY leans over, breathes last breath. Dove is released from his grip, flies.

DECKARD (voiceover)
I listened. And that's what nobody did.

This was his first thought.
That's why he wanted more life in the first place.

I think its the most beautiful ending. The badguy completely thrashes the hero, it isn't even close, but realizes in his final moments that this isn't what he wants and instead saves him. This act also completely changes the hero's point of view and he also course corrects because of the antagonist. No other movie has ever tried anything like this.

I don't understand people that say life is short. I'm 32 and feel like I've been alive for an eternity and experienced virtually almost everything life has to offer. I have extremely vivid memories of being 4-5 and they feel like they happened thousands of years ago.

Most of your post I agree with, but the way the scene plays out, it seems to me not so much like Roy is thrashing Deckard and then realizes he doesn't want to, more like Roy's whole mode of being is joyous and playful.
As if he doesn't have anything against Deckard, but because Deckard is coming to kill him he's going to have a little fun with it (and of course totally outclasses him in the fight). Saving Deckard isn't a change of heart for Roy, as much as it's just an extension of his joyful approach.

I would think it's beautiful except I can't help but think of Roy's brutal and unnecessary killing of Sebastian. It tarnishes any sympathy I might have had for Roy. He just wanted to be their friend and help them. Without Sebastian, Roy wouldn't have even gotten in to see Tyrell before Roy died. Yet, they heartlessly killed Sebastian anyway.

I read the scene as a man talking to a god (I know, replicants are super strong but with their short lifespans, a human is basically immortal to them) and declaring that dammit, his life had value. He was going to die, killing Deckard wasn't going to stop that, and he makes his case that his life was worth extending.
>>
>>215607413
I can appreciate that take as well, since it's clear Deckard has no chance, and Roy just toys with him all fight. But I do think he meant to kill him at the end and had a change of heart when you look at >>215607634

Roy isn't a good person, he's done a lot of terrible and cruel things even when he didn't have to. But he also loves life more than anyone. I think those contradictions make him human, and it plays better when his final act was a human spur of the moment decision.

> But I do think he meant to kill him at the end and had a change of heart when you look at
I'd actually disagree there too.
Roy only kills Tyrell, Sebastian, and (iirc, correct me if I'm wrong here) the eye designer - and I realized a bit ago that these are all people involved in creating Replicants.
This doesn't exactly justify Roy, but he's killing people responsible for creating human-like slaves.
>>
>>215608097
And Deckard is a Blade Runner, a slave hunter. One who killed his comrades even. He has every justification to want him dead.
>>
>>215608226
Right... that's the plot of the movie...
What I'm saying is I don't see Roy as changeable or inconsistent in his actions.
Killing Sebastian and saving Deckard are consistent with his personal ethos.
