Finally got around to seeing this today. The trailer really got me creeped out in a way I haven't been in some time. And now that I've finally seen it... It was okay? I was expecting some kind of big eerie surreal mindfuck to happen to the kids and meanwhile the whole town goes to shit and descends into madness or something but instead it's just a couple people wonder what's going on and then all of a sudden a witch is responsible, because apparently witches exist in this world. I dunno, I guess I was just expecting something more vague and mysterious and creepy and not something so specific and goofy as "witch did it." That having been said, though, I will say that her comeuppance was amazing and well-earned.

Your fault for expecting any movie in the year of our lord 2025 to be anything above ok

I didn't like it because it seemed like a lot of it was about this homeless crackhead and I was disgusted by it

You sound white af lol. Ignorant.

This. I'm sick of people praising this movie as outstanding, when it's mediocre at best. Completely predictable and generic story, full of cheap jump scares, and all the characters have to act as completely retarded so the "plot" can happen. We have really hit rock bottom if this is considered anything but a forgettable trash
>>
>>215623381
I liked the dream sequence because I'm not particularly impressed by blood and guts or jump scares. I like surreal, cerebral, existential horror where the creepiness and scares come from something less childish like reality not behaving as it should.

I think that kind of thing is just smarter horror for smarter people, so the direction this went in the end was just a bit of a let dow....GAH! FUCK!!! I JUST REFRESHED THE PAGE AND THERE'S A SPOOPY SKELETON IN THE CORNER OF MY SCREEN.

Jesus, that scared me shitless. Not funny man ...

I thoroughly liked this movie

For me, it was the comfy setting, and slutty birdlike teacher
>>

the homeless crackhead POV was the best part of the movie
>>
why did a gun appear in the sky with a digital clock
>>
>>215623746
Something about gun violence, which the director denies. It was bizarre, which added to the horror at least. Apparently 217 is a Kubrick reference or some shit.
>>
>>215623746
director said he saw it in a dream once and just thought it looked cool visually
>>
>>215623746
Because the title is 'Weapons' and it had to be alluded to or something.

>Apparently 217 is a Kubrick reference or some shit.
That guy is so fucking overrated. I wish people would stop sucking that guy's dick.
>>
>>215623655
can't remember the name of it but I saw one not long ago about the word basically coming to an end and it was all in this bizarre nightmare scenario. I can't for the life of me think of the title or who was in it but it actually made me feel a sense of dread.

ill try to google it
>>
>>215623746
best part of the movie
more horror needs way more surrealist shit like that
>>
>>215623746
I'm inclined to think the director was telling the truth when he said it's just some random shit he saw in a dream or something.

People really overstate the supposed school shooting allegory the movie supposedly is.
>>
>>215623786
I think it was Take Shelter
>>
>>215623736
my favorite too. he's a total scumbag but he's still funny and you feel for him a little bit
>>
>17 children dissapear
>The director is a crypto-juggalo
Whoop whoop, lil homie
>>
>>215623798
I think it is an allegory for the internet manipulating the minds of adults and especially children, and I refuse to elaborate.
>>

>Take Shelter
Cheers anon, I'll take a look.

Actually I was thinking that one of the strengths of the Freddy Kruger films was it combined the surreal dream shit with blood and guts stuff, so neither audience would be bored by it.
>>
>>215623381
It’s funny because I also finally got around to watching it today and that was my exact thought. I feel like the writer had a good idea for what would be creepy and shocking (a whole class of kids going missing), but then had zero idea on how to deliver on it. So he the pulled that plot straight out of his ass and fed it to us
>>
>>215623496
>sick of people praising this movie as outstanding
It's just another in a long list of decent modern horror films. If you have seen a lot of these sort of time base event ones they all sort of play out the same way. A different genre than the dark night based stuff and oh a monster is out there etc.
It's hard carried by the level of cast. It's well below Sinners as far as best horror film to come out this year but it was still a fun watch. Not every movie needs to be this 10/10 epic level feature.

The father fell asleep in his kids bed staring at a war poster for a video game that had a dude with an AR on it.

Slow as all fuck, but comfy Zod so far.

Wasn't bad. But at the end when she gets dark rain on her doesn't that mean she's going to go nuts? Like it's already too late?

Scene in the kitchen was creepy as fuck, just my kind of thing, and more effective the way it was done instead of the usual you'd expect.

Also methinks a clever trick to make the child deaf so the child actor doesn't have any lines. If only some other directors had thought of that.

Fireflies were a nice touch and music was comfy. So very clever low-budget production overall. Kind of a pity it didn't get more traction. Definitely deserves to be seen by creepy/comfy/budget-shrewd craftiness appreciators.

I noted reviews saying that they were still thinking about it a week later, and that's probably just the power of those unanswered questions on their own if nothing else, but in a kinda good way.
