The funny thing is, at this point they could literally just give the role to any heterosexual white Englishman, and the show would be a moderate success, just because of that.It's the perfect opportunity to reinvigorate the brand really, and they wont take it.

They should have just created a new sci-fi serial show to model after & compete with the Marvel franchises, not try to take a deeply established show tailor made for long-form story-first psychothriller discovery adventures by numerous authors and turn it into overproduced mindless action earthbound hero worship melodrama by one or two mediocre writers also tasked with showrunning. Everything about post 2005 Who is a fucking bullshit cartoon only made remotely watchable by a couple excellent actors making a semi-edible porridge out of swampwater and manure.

It's a show about a guy just kind of nosing around, and accidentally having adventures. They've been continually making this mistake that everything needs to be BIG and explosive, and the Doctor needs to be the most important man in the universe. It's weird how they don't get it. There have been other shows since Doctor Who that get Doctor Who better than Doctor Who does. Farscape, Lexx, Johnathan Creek even.

>>215626535Yeah, Capaldi is a good actor and has a good grasp of what makes the Doctor a good character, but that can only take the show so far. Moffat kinda felt like he just... gave up around Series 8, and Series 5-7 weren't even that good imho. I stopped regularly watching the show after Missy showed up and so when Chibnall happened, it felt less like "Aurgh fuck they ruined the show, I'm heartbroken" and more "Yeah it looked like it was gonna go there."
