The movie is a metaphor about LGTB+ indoctrination in elementary schools.
>>
>>215640194
It's a metaphor for school shootings you dumb street shitter
>>
>>215639733
What element is Justine? If you can't answer this without thinking, you don't get cinema; you just like movies. This movie made me realize that somewhere after Barbarian, Zach Cregger went from a director to a filmmaker.

On a side note that deserves Reddit spacing, I loved that Paul and James were diametrically opposed to each other like St. Paul and St. James the Just in Galatians.
>>
>>215639733
yeah i thought it was garbage too. wasn't scary at all. the director has some weird fetish for making pretend horror movies which are just really comedies but "spooky" like jordan peele ". barbarian was like that too.
>>
>>215640219
In what way?
>>
>>215640309
17 is the same number of victims from Parkland for one.
>>
I found it really interesting she had a twig specifically for stabbing your cheeks and nothing else. I found the story of Alex rather depressing and it felt like misery porn.
>>
>>215640170
it was a reddit ending
>>
I legit asked myself what was the point in making this movie
>>
>>215640449
>ending has payoff
>le reddit ending
kill yourself
>>
>>215640417
Okay, but I'd prefer some analysis regarding the characters and the events.
I mean, the villain is a typical left wing deranged Karen. She is put down by the monster she herself created. She is being pursued by a a White couple. As a matter of fact, family and community play a central role in the film.

There's no talk about incels, bullying or something that points to schools shooting.
At least that's how I perceived it.

She was pointless.

>>
>>215640219
No it wasn't
>>
>>215640479
It had payoff but also not a happy ending since the kid's parents are now comatose and the kids are permanently fucked up. Loved it
>>
>>215640219
No it's not. That would be too obvios, chud. The main idea of the movie is that the kids are used as weapons.
>>
>>215640491
>>215640309
>>215640520
Josh Brolin plays a bereft parent who, consumed by grief, becomes obsessed with getting his child back. Julia Garner is the teacher who couldn’t have prevented the kids from disappearing but nevertheless becomes a town scapegoat. The surviving kid is keeping secrets and complicit in the disappearances. Each of these characters is allegorical; the interpretation is up to the viewer.
>>
>>215640532
The old bitch getting ripped to pieces was awesome
>>
>>215640906
>vaguely describe the premise of the movie and common character motivations
>"IT'S AN ALLEGORY ABOUT SCHOOL SHOOTINGS"
umm actually it's about all those kids that were trapped in a cave in thailand.
Josh Brolin plays a bereft parent who, consumed by grief, becomes obsessed with getting his child back (from the cave). Julia Garner is the teacher who couldn’t have prevented the kids from disappearing from the cave but nevertheless becomes a town scapegoat (for responsibility of the children in the cave). The surviving kid is keeping secrets (that got them trapped in the cave) and complicit in the disappearances

Granted I don't have sex. But if I were a sex haver, and I managed to do the sex with a cute girl like Julia Garner, I can't imagine a single scenario where I would wear all my clothes, including my jacket, and have her wear all her clothes, when mating pressing her into the bed. So it was very immersion breaking to see this scene in the film.

Trips of trvth.
>Mfw she keeps her bra on
>>
>>215639733

Cregger is lucky that he had to recast four of the leads and managed an upgrade on every one

>Pedro Pascal as Archer Graff, ultimately played by Josh Brolin.
>Renate Reinsve as Justine Gandy, ultimately played by Julia Garner.
>Brian Tyree Henry as Principal Marcus, ultimately played by Benedict Wong.
>Tom Burke as Officer Paul, ultimately played by Alden Ehrenreich.

>>215640219
It's a metaphor for feminism destroying families. Notice that evil enters the home through the woman in the film. Notice that the end result is fewer children. Notice that a witch did it. School shootings and mindless violence against others is a side effect.
>>
>>215640302
I wouldn't say it's garbage, it's moreso the typical horror movie that's not really scary, doesn't have a throughline, and not a single character changes. Garner and Brolin's good performances were basically wasted by the script
>>
Voodoo is not scary. Simple as.

The premise was good.
The trailer didn't spoil too much.
It was a real movie (not some blumhouse production).
>>
>>215642689
The gun spirit felt threatened by children being used as weapon so he offered the dad guidance to uncover the mystery and stop the witch.
NRA be praised!
>>
It is completely unacceptable to have the premise of your script be completely disarmed by the most simple scrutiny.

There is no fucking way in hell that the FBI wouldn't have had the house of the one boy who didn't vanish on 24h surveillance. They would have found out about the zombie parents missing work, the boy buying groceries, and basically the whole scheme in 5 minutes.

I felt so bad for this guy. He was just a nice principal and the only real voice of reason and didn't deserve his death. Also, the feral wide-eyed faces of the slaves when active were surprisingly unnerving.

>>215639733
It just that all entertainment has such a low bar these days.
Too many characters, including the entire police department being stupid. The time jumping character POVs seemed to be just to add time to the flick. Would have been better without trying to do the whodunit mystery shit. Should have tried to be either horror or comedy. It failed with both.
>>

Oh no, not the AR15 ASSAULT RIFLE! This is so scary!

I watched Barbarian without knowing anything about it, and that's why I loved it. I wonder what this movie would have been like if I hadn't seen the spoilers about the witch on this forum.

Ok but why does the witch make them run like Naruto?
>>
on its own it pretty average. but I think the whole conspiracy angle some are pushing with it kind of makes it spookier
>>
>>215641183

he needed to work on his naruto run
>>
>>215646135
They're not naruto running, just to their sides at 45 degrees. If anything i'd assume it's more a reference them acting like "heat seeking missles" as brolin said.
>>
>>215639766
This, detract 2 points from every horror movie score
>>
>>215640219
Well then it's poorly done. Focused too much on the wrong characters and used the wrong magic system.
>>
>>215642064
The Dad is obsessed with getting his son back or getting some sort of revenge/closure.
The Teacher is a childless alcoholic.
The Principal is a fatass who eats/is involved with food in all of his scenes (except possessed).
The Junkie is a junkie.
The Cop is an alcoholic who relapses.
>>
the extra perspectives added nothing and took what should have been a solid 9/10 horror movie down to a 5/10

the giant AR-15 looked like a unity asset.

>>215639766
This. The bar is in hell when it comes to horror. Same with comedies which is why they all died off.
>>
>>215642440
>not a single character changes
Get off this board
>>
>>215643951
That is a perfectly valid criticism however there is always a certain suspension of disbelief we need to apply to horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street (why aren't the cops guarding the surviving kids) Or even Friday the 13th (why do they keep reopening the summer camp).

yep. saw it last night, was pretty great as a horror movie, decent enough as a regular movie
>>
>>215642689
This was definitely the worst part of what I would call a good movie. That dream sequence did not have to happen at all. Why did it even happen? Was the witch fucking with him or did the director run out of ideas on exposition and put this in?
>>
>>215652659
I must be one fake nigger then
>>
Have you seen the shit we had for "movies" in the last 10 year?
Weapons was really fucking good for a 2025 movie. It was okay/decent for a 2015 and before movie.
And Julia Garner is very ugly-hot in it.
>>
>>215653433
Alcoholic Julia Garner owes me hungover sex and cuddles
>>
>>215639733
The reception it got is honestly bewildering. If it were just fun or creepy but not feeling like it really stands out in the genre that would be one thing, but it's not even fun or creepy. It's boring.
>>
>>215652600

nitpicking plot holes is what zoomers think film criticism is and it's so tiresome
>>
>>215652974
