>punishes the only crusader attempting to stop Saladin from consolidating power
>>215648293Yeah, the whole thing is an anti-Western, anti-Christian, anti-white piece using the Crusades to carry that message. We've known that for 20+ years. And that didn't stop people from saying "woah, the Crusaders were cool!" despite Ridley Scott's best attempts. The wrong brother died.
>europeans actually went to the middle east to fight for a city for centuries that they had zero relation with simply because that city was written about in a bookhistory never fails to amaze me
>>215648353you dont understand, someone yelled "God wills it"
>>215648353It's more like >Eastern Romans mess up at manzikurt and almost destroy their civilization, losing almost all of Anatolia (Turkey)>Emperor asks the pope at the time to lend him some troops so he can retake Anatolia >The pope oversells and overhypes what is supposed to be a simple mercenary venture as a once in a life time chance to get a free go to heaven pass by retaking Jerusalem and freeing some cities along the way>The crusades happen
>>215648353I find the Zutt period of Muhammads life particularly interesting
>>215648353this was 800 years before video games there wasn't much else to do
Goddamn I was disappointed when this film didn't properly show the battle at horns of hattin, the desperate survival battle of crusaders. The best potrayal of it remains in age of empires 2 custom-amde scenario where you couldn't build anything, you just had to survive the endless onslaught of saladins forces and control your army accordinhly. It even had the firest that saladins men lit up to produce smoke to harrass the crusaders
>>215648353>europeansYou mean Christians?>went to the middle east to fight for a city for centuries that they had zero relation with simply because that city was written about in a bookYou mean they went to return the Holy Land to Christian rule, and take it from the barbaric Muslim dogs who followed a religion that was founded a thousand miles away in Mecca nowhere near Jerusalem?
>>215648421Based pope
>>215648353Crusades were about killing towelheads running rampant in europe but they kept coming and before you knew you were in jerusalem. Atleast thats how i imagine it
>>215648293It didn't happened, altrough historically the crusaders have limited resources manpower, besides being encircled by a horde of browns... it endured 2 centuries because the sophisticated and advanced fortification systems build by the crusaders and diplomacy
>>215648353They were invited by the byzantine emperor who turned back home half way through, so the crusaders just took the land they conquered for themselves. The northern parts of the coast was still majority christian, with Greeks and Armenians. Anyway, it's not like doing stuff like that was atypical for the normans.
>>215648353have fun being a nobody in life.
>>215648503>who followed a religion that was founded a thousand miles away in Mecca nowhere near Jerusalem?not even a thousand lmao. 927 miles.
>>215648293the fucker didn't mention how shitty the life Raynald de chattallon>Ranald de Chatillon>second son>travel to the holy lands to make something out of himself>married the mother of the heir to Antioch>attacked Cyprus for some cash torturing the elderly patriarch for funds in the process>the king of Jerusalem and the Byzantine Emperor tag team him so he surrenders>they humiliate him by having him walk beside the Emperor's horse leading him into Antioch>they have him beg for his life>finally forgiven>sets about expanding his wife's son lands>gets captured by muslims>16 or so years in prison>finally released >marries the mother of the heir to Crac des Moabites>peace with muslims >must not do shit but sit and seethe while watching rich muslims walk by his wife's son's castle while his wife's son grows and his time in power is exhausted
