Sorry to be ghey and post a letterboxd list but this is my ranking as of right now. Still missing Hail Caeser, Buster Scruggs and Macbeth.

This is a pretty unimpeachable filmography, but I don't really like anything below Blood Simple. Those Ethan Coen solo films suck ass.
>>
>>215652679
Intolerable Cruelty and Ladykillers sure were their most mainstream comedies but i still found them highly entertaining with some really good jokes.

Is there a fucking reason why you have Blood Simple and Miller so low?
>>
>>215652453
I'm such a retard that when I watched this I didn't realize the beginning of the movie was a flash forward, so when he finds himself back in that ally I was like "oh wow his life is just an endless loop"

I love Miller's Crossing and Blood Simple but SOMETHING has to go at the bottom.

Man Who Wasn't There is crazy underappreciated and True Grit is just a damn good movie.

>OBWAT that low

why, honest question
I'm with you OP, Inside Llewyn is one of their best movies. If you liked the music score, my advicr is to check pic related, you won't be disappointed.

1. Lebowski
2. No Country
3. Burn After Reading
4. Serious Man
5. O Brother
6. Fargo
7. Hail Caesar
8. True Grit
9. Barton Fink
10. Blood Simple
>>
I wanna see Barton but I'm afraid it will be one of those pretentious meta hollywood films.
>>
>>215652453
Agreed.
>>
>>215652936
That guy with the glasses is so annoying it made the whole movie unenjoyable to me.

1. NCFOM
2. Fargo
3. Lebowski
4. Serious
5. Llewyn
6. Burn
7. Grit
8. Blood

The beginning is not a flash forward, it is an endless loop.
>>
>>215653487
Barton himself is a pretentious writer that is stuck up his own ass, thinking he's writing some masterpiece about the common man that he is completely detached from
>>
>>215653487
>>215653542
What this anon said, it's basically a send-up of pretentious creative types. It's also kino and probably the best John Goodman performance imo
>>
>>215653159
>>215652679

glad to see TMWWT that high, it's always the most overlooked one
>>
>>215653003
>>215653533
This. Llewyn has basically learned nothing over the course of the film, it's one of their bleakest endings.
>>
I watched The Ladykillers and its actually really comfy. Some jokes don't land but overall I'd say it's a good and fun flick, certainly not on par with the best in their filmography but by no means bad.
>>
>>215653808
I felt kind of reassured by that ending actually. That yes his life is shitty but somehow he'll just keep trucking, I mean he even has kind of a smile in that final shot, he'll bounce back just like he has every time before this.
>>
>>215652453
This flick has spawned so many hipsters
>>
>>215653542
>>215653738
thanks I'll check it out after all.
>>
>>215653814
I mean, it speaks a lot of the Coens that Ladykillers is one of their worst movies. Yeah, sure, it's low on THEIR list, but still a billion times more watchable than anything else in the mainstream, both when it dropped and now, 20 years later.
>>
>>215653808
He is making small changes in the end, so I don't think it's meant to be utterly hopeless or anything.
>>
>>215653814
Tom Hanks is giving a baffling performance in this movie, it's so fucking strange.
>>
>>215653454
Fargo is exactly where it ought to be. Its neither very good nor very bad.

you mean "encapsulated"
>>
>>215653974
There are no "hipsters" who are as handsome and talented as Oscar Isaac is as Llewyn Davis.
>>
Bump. Did any anons see this? What did you think?
>>
>>215654773
No one is watching his lesbian slop.
>>
>>215654996
It's really, really bad. Honestly I'm embarrassed for Ethan. This guy has had a hand in some of the greatest films of all time and is 1/2 of one of the greatest directing duos of all time, and now he makes epic lesbian sex comedies co-written by and (allegedly) co-directed by his polyamorous "lesbian" wife. I can't fathom the humiliation, but I know that their movies fucking suck.

We desperately need the bros reunion.
>>
>>215655159
I haven't watched Ethan's films, but I'd like to see them together again after seeing The Tragedy of Macbeth. I did like The Tragedy of Macbeth, but it just doesn't scratch the same itch as the movies the brothers did together.
