following Aftersun, I really thought he had the chance to be someone incredible. instead, he's hunting down gay roles like his life depends on it and apparently Gladiator 2 sucked (I didn't watch)what the hell went wrong? Aftersun was incredible
>>215654309I'm closely examining his hair loss throughout the years and look forward to seeing it progress in the coming years
>>215654483he'll just get a transplant. hell some studio will pay for it
>>215654309All of Us Strangers was better than Aftersun
>>215654694I watched it on an international flight. granted, not the best setup, but I didn't love it. both he and the lead were very good, though
>>215654309Gay roles are the most kino ones. I will watch The History of Sound despite the mediocre reviews.
He is playing Shakespeare in Hamnet.
>>215654923I am looking forward to that. Shakespeare is absolutely magical. I haven't seen any of Chloe Zhao's work but I enjoyed the trailer. I hope the movie is packed with the soul of Hamlet
>>215654977It looks decent, but clearly there's a focus on the wife.Zhao's first two films are good. Nomadland is trying to be way too sweet in tone, it's fine but is not ad good as the first two films. Eternals was just done for the money.
>>215654309He does look a bit fruity here
>>215654309All modern actors are awful
>>215655367yeah, it's a fictional account written by a female author so that comes with the territory. I just hope Mescal shows something special againI'm sure it'll be a heartfelt tearjerker
>>215654309"Someone incredible" cos he played a dad who can't step up, a common struggle for men? Aftersun is incredible more for the director conveying deeply personal experience of confusion + naivete about adult world into an impressionistic movie. That may mean Mescal excels at all these extensions of the PRIVATE FEELS, while Glad2 is all about commanding the PUBLIC LIFE in high-stake power. Polar opposites. Also his American accent was awful in Foe, a badly ill-conceived/executed effort by everyone, though his energy was likable. The Mastermind looks like the most accomplished character work of this new crop of actors.
>>215655505*impressionistic ROAD movie
>>215655367Buckley did a spot-on performance the way Streep was praised for in the 80s. Funnily enough it's also the most traditionally feminine Buckley's ever played, not a put on (that Jodie Comer tends to do), but thoroughly embodied & not a trace of artifice. Significant only cos the crop of actors are very anti-trad.
>>215655505well yeah, most depictions are grounded in some sort of mutual recognition of essence (e.g., inadequate parenting). however you want to cut it, he excelled in the role he was given in AftersunI haven't seen Foe. I appreciate the praise for Mastermind, I'll check that out>his energy was likablethat's a good way to describe Mescal in general. he has real presence on screen
