i havent read burke but it seems like his idea of the sublime is necessarily opposed to beauty since beauty points to life - things that exist in the world and their symmetry and form - and the sublime points to those things outside the physical world - the formless void, the vast infinite - and those things remind us of death because they are outside the body, and only exist where the body is not, and keep existing after the body is gone. those things are never in our control, we can only confront them or run from them but never control them or stop them.
idk. but watch A Dark Song.

that'll never happen. the more esoteric they make it, the less money they'll make because laypeople wont understand it. i think a dark song finds a really good balance. it doesnt overexplain anything. it's exactly at the level of understanding that the main character would have of the occult, which is perfect. she isnt a real practicioner, she just speedread a bunch of stuff online in desperation. i think the narrative perfectly reflects the perspective of the subject.

hey you take that back.

I might shuffle a few around but that's a great list regardless. It's annoying that probably the worst Senritsu film imo (The Most Terrifying Movie in History) has the coolest name. It's not even Terrifying, by that point it's like the 20th film or something and he's gone fully into wacky dimensional stuff.

I agree, its the visuals Im harping on. I owned some Occult books, they are stunning. The film has some of it but its very muted. Visually its rather week for an arts film.
The circkles are now looking amazing near the end but we dont get a real shot of them. Coolest scene was the sparkles but it was 15 seconds and very low budget.

Halloween 3 had the best villain. His goal was simple. Kill a bunch of kids through ancient druid magic. That's it. Just a straight up "Fuck them kids" motive.

I used to think it was to power some other spell that required a lot of sacrifices or something, but that shit is never mentioned or alluded to in any way. It is just about murdering as much kids as possible. Honestly? It is refreshing to have a villain with such a straight forward goal.

It's kind of ambiguous, which I like about the film.
>It was the start of the year in our old Celtic lands and we'd be waiting in our houses of wattles and clay. The barriers would be down, you see, Between the real and the unreal. And the dead might be looking in to sit by our fires of turf.
>Halloween. The festival of Samhain. The last great one took place 3,000 years ago and the hills ran red with the blood of animals and children.
>Sacrifices. It was a part of our world ... Our craft. Witchcraft. To us, it was a way of controlling our environment. It's not so different now. It's time again. In the end ... We don't decide these things, you know. The planets do. They're in alignment. And it's time again. The world's going to change tonight, Doctor.

>I had a roommate who was a very good friend of Timothy Leary, who was one of the main people with the LSD experiments at Harvard. A man arrived at our house in New York City on Bank Street, and he had a vial of pure lysergic acid. He said, ‘I’m gonna be taking this upstate to Tim, but I don’t want to carry it around New York City. Can I put it in your refrigerator?’ And my friend, Barry, said, ‘Of course.’
>So he said, ‘You know, we have this jar of pure lysergic acid in the refrigerator. I’ll get an eyedropper and I’ll give you a drop.’ And I went, ‘Okay,'”.
>He takes an eyedropper and he goes to give the drop and he gasps. The whole eyedropper, thousands of micrograms, goes into my throat, and there is nothing you can do. Nothing. So I said, ‘Okay, well, we’ll see where this goes.'”
>It lasted somewhere between 3 and 4 billion years. I’m not exactly sure of the time frame. It involved Heaven and Hell and way beyond all of those things.
>And then I heard a sound of something go ‘bloop.’ The whole thing came back, and I said, ‘Why am I back?’ And this huge voice came through the atmosphere, and it said, ‘To tell people what you saw.’ And that was the beginning of Jacob’s Ladder.

It's an open-ended movie, so there's no wrong answer to the question. I take the stance that he's a master manipulator who was obsessed with her to an extreme degree. They were probably friends at some point, and she never wanted anything more since he was never allowed into her place again, showing there was some incident prior to the movie.

Kind of got that feeling towards the end, it does have some horror elements though so I wouldn't say its just a dtama/thriller
>>
This was so demented, chaotic, and trashy, pure 90's humor. Being a Troma b-horror film, it had lots of tits, vomit, and gore. It reminded me of the Piranha 3D movies. It was retarded but honestly had a good time watching it. I feel like this production must have been a fucking blast to work on.
>>
>>215671687
Doesn't have enough to make it horror. The Guest has horror elements, but it's not one. The same can be said about Nightcrawler, but it's just a crime-thriller.

Just finished watching Dead Mail, I really enjoyed it though it's less horror and more police (in this case post office) procedural, reminded me of Columbo or Poker Face.

It has a great villain and aesthetic but there are flaws too, like there's a big chunk dedicated to an interesting but slow paced backstory and the best character gets killed off unceremoniously fairly early, but it's definitely worth a watch to judge for yourself.

I actually watched Brides of Dracula but fell asleep at the end. Anything with Cushing is still automatically kino though.
>>
>>215674931
I watched:
R.L.Stein's Pumpkinhed (ok movie. too scary for little kids but not scary enough for older kids and adults)
Tales Of Halloween (pleasantly surprised. Well-done horror comedy anthology with only a couple mehs out of 10 stories)
Hack-O-Lantern (meh movie but a nice amount of full nudity)
Trick 'R Treat (Good if a little uneven. Not exactly a straightforward anthology though)

I intended to watch more but didn't get at it.

>Also some kino Linnea Quigley nudity in two of the movies.
The first scene with Linny in Jack-O is her rubbing her ass and tits in a shower. The way it takes a while for the movie to really use her character in the story after that, I thought that was going to be her only scene and they were just using her name to sell the film. That's what happened with Witchtrap-- advertised as "Starring Linnea Quigley!" and then she shows up, gets naked, and then quickly gets killed in the shower at the beginning.

The movie itself is a great Halloween watch. Not a good movie in itself, but it gave me a lot of nostalgia for 90s Halloweens, especially the decorations they use

I feel like one day we'll get F13 style legal issues with Scream/Ghost Face

>Alterian Ghost Company creates DIY costume making kits in 1991 (left)
>Fun World knocks off the designs to make Fearsome/Fantastic Faces mask line in 1992 (right)
>Makers of Scream stumble upon the Fun World mask while location scouting and license the mask from Fun World to use in the movie

The rights are already tricky because Fun World owns the design and name but Paramount own the concept of Scream meaning the Scream movies need to licence the mask from Fun World every time. In turn Fun World makes different designs for like DBD that are unrelated to the films while ALSO producing the film version masks.

It feels like a major legal dispute waiting to happen.

It's interesting, you see a lot of Ghost Face merch which is exactly that, just Ghost Face merch, for the reasons you mentioned, even though the licensees clearly try to reference Scream (even though they technically can't, legally). Then there's a lot of Scream merch which completely omits Ghost Face, again for the reasons you mentioned.

I seem to remember initially Wes Craven told Fun World to fuck off before they eventually decided to go ahead and pay to license the mask.

This and it's sequel really feels like the proto-terrifier, probably could have had a similar explosion of popularity if it came out just a little later and if the director didn't die.
>>
>>215681534
Its a well written drama with a creepy horror twist to wrap things up. I found myself appreciating the little moments like the son bringing a girl home and the father being proud and understanding, or the femcel meekly trying to get attention from him after being pumped and dumped. But you also had the bigger issue of the mysterious girl and the truth behind her identity and intentions, which becomes the primary focus during the second half. And the climax is just horrific and brutal.
>>
>>215681699
Also on 2: I've never seen a movie just forget its protagonist exists mid-climax before. He isn't killed, he's just thrown to the ground and is just... gone. I don't think he's even acknowledged afterwards, the movie just moves on and ends without him.

Pretty sure you're Indian and/or a faggot.

I'm trying to watch Fright Night and I regret watching The Princess Bride first because I can't take Jerry seriously as a threat at all.

Have you ever seen the BTS of any horror movie? Everybody is laughing and having a good time.

Your question is kind of dumb, they get in horror movies the same way they in any other production, through agents and casting calls.

The trend of zoomers against nudity is weird. It was the sex, or related controversy, that sold a lot of movies in the past. Do you think anyone would care about Basic Instinct without the leg crossing scene? Verhoeven is a great director, but without Sharon Stone's vagina what's that movie even about?

what this anon said is mostly true >>215684324
however, I'm a not fan of Sasha Cohen, but didn't he do a fake casting in one of his movies and parents were willing to let their kids be covered in bees and stuff for a chance to be on the tv

when you can pull up the dirtiest porn from your phone in just a couple of clicks, spend hours scrolling through models in skimpy outfits, and avoid most in-person social stuff, nudity kind of loses its appeal
