When did you give up on Star Trek?
>>
After Enterprise
>>
>>215671070
When Janeway was a block of wood, the ship was a dull gray box, the characters were unfit to be on a starship, the cast were a bunch of stiff dorks that had no chemistry together, and the writers wrote the show like being on a starship would be a sterile corporate office job. All of Star Trek died in the first episode of Voyager, and in case there was any question, Enterprise beat the desiccated corpse to a pulp in the coffin.
>>
I watched the series premiere of Discovery on NBC and gave up on the second commercial break.
>>
i saw TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9 and VOY twice. I tried all the other shows and i dropped them quickly because they were shit.
>>
>>215671070
TOS
>>
>>215671070
Multiple times over the years. Starting with TNG, There are two non-canon episodes: The Outcast and Sub Rosa. Then, Deep Space Nine ceases to be canon sometime around when Sisko shaves his head and grows a goatee. But really, the whole series can be disregarded since it was Ira Behr’s middle finger to Roddenberry. Voyager is great, if you get rid of the woman captain. Enterprise was just a Riker Holodeck program. Data died in Nemesis. Then there was no more Star Trek down to this day.
>>
>>215671070
After VOY. Fuck prequels and reboots.
Then finally with PIC we had to watch a lot of shit before getting the TNG reunion we wanted; and even then it was somewhat 'damaged'.
>>
>>215671070
After watching the 2nd JJ Abrams movie.
>>
>>215671070
When STD season 2 led up to a finale that was possibly the worst scripted television I've ever seen - I gave it too many chances
>>
when reddit and tumblr started writing, so around 2017
i was willing to put up with the jewjew movies although i hate them even more now
>>
>>215671070
After the first two or three episodes of Star Trek Picard, whatever episode it is where they pull out Icheb from Voyager's eye
>>
Died somewhere around the 1st or 2nd season of ent. They were just stealing stories from previous shows and rehashing them. I thought discovery season 1 ( apart from the poor finale) was ok. Second season with pike good and then it fell off a cliff. Snw was ok first 2 seconds this last season was a clunker. Pi ard season1 and 2 nearly killed to for me. Picard season 3 gave me all the feels l had as a lad growing up watching this series and honestly I felt it the best thing for the last 25 years.
I don't hold any hope for academy I feel a hate watch already coming on. They are really heading into long hiatus territory. I'm getting the same fatigue as I got watching ent and and gave up to watch star gate instead.
It's funny that everyone I see a star trek posts it's always from the older series and not the newer
>>
>>215673738
grow up and stop being a cuck, prickard S3 was just as dogshit as everything else is

They could have saved the show, easily. All they had to do was kill off a character. Was supposed to be Kim I think until he pressured them not because he was an Asian on the cover of some magazine, but really it should have been Torres, dying in the line of Starfleet/Federation principles.
This would have pissed of Chakotay. And eventually he'd go rogue and get his own ship/crew of maquis and Voyager and him would have various run ins with each other as they both race eachother to the Alpha quadrant with a bunch of sexual tension. Him hooking up with Seven was bullshit and his character was a waste of space most of the series.

>>
>>215673513
I know it's cliche to call things "reddit" but the dialogue in nutrek can only be described as snarky reddit-ness, it's awful, it plagues all modern media, especially streamslop. I can't bear it.
>>
>>215674078
I've heard the thing about Garret Wang being on the chopping block is an urban legend. They were always going to write Kes out because of the actress' problems with drugs and mental health. They deliberately spread the rumour about Kim's potential death to cover that up, Wang was aware of this and went along with it.
>>
>>215671070
During Enterprise and after Nemesis's release. The prequel setting bored me. It's a decent enough show, but after TNG, DS9 and VOY, trying to go somewhere else killed the momentum for me. I'd have preferred a series set after VOY. Nemesis just also showed they had no clue how to move the series forward, which was why it was full of tropes and lazy.
>>
>>215674485
This has only come out recently but the cast and crew have stated this is what really happened. Jennifer Lien was always going to be booted - she kept showing up on set drunk and high on crack, which was unacceptable. The drama with Garrett Wang was a fabrication (although he himself was dissatisfied with where his character Harry Kim was going)
>>
>>215672249
I still can believe they used the shit from PIC s1&2 in a good way for the 3rd season. The writers of PIC3 are the one we need to save Trek.
They learned their lesson after the shitty 2 earlier season instead of doubling down on the shit people didn't like out of spite, like the other NuTrek shows did. They also introduced new characters that were interesting.
>>
>>215674910
Oh fuck off. All of these people need to be hanged.
>>
>>215674910
Jack is a literal Gary Stu.
Shaw is obnoxiously reddit, he's just Rick, that's not how Starfleet captains should act.
7 of 9 becoming captain of the Enterprise is like out of some 12 year olds bad fanfic.
La Forge's admittedly cute daughters are nepo babies.
>>
>>215671070
Enterprise.
>>
Lower decks has a Reddit aura surrounding it but if you get past that it’s got some great episodes. Maybe I’m just desperate for good new trek, all live action trek since enterprise has been awful. That’s 20 years of bad trek

It's beyond tiresome, I always say: "if the characters aren't invested in what's happening, how can I be?" I wonder who it even appeals to; I mean, even if you want to write something that's lighthearted and silly, like the Adam West Batman show, you still have to write the dialogue with sincerity, the humour comes from characters taking an absurd situation seriously.

I saw this "Lost in Space" episode recently where the crew are being "menaced" by an army of robots, portrayed by dozens of official "Lost in Space" robot toys. What makes it fun is the way the actors are totally deadpan: Major West sees a phlanx of robots rolling towards the ship, wiggling their little arms uselessly and he shouts: "John! They're moving up on us!" like he's in a war movie. If he said "ermmm, yeah, that's a thing" it wouldn't have been funny at all.
>>
>>215671597
This is almost what I think.
But I ask any of you, why do you need more Trek than these below?
>TOS
>TAS
>TOS films
>TNG
>DS9
>TNG films
>Voyager
>>
>>215671070
walking out the theater after first contact
>>
>>215675233
too much
no tas
no TNG films
no voyager
>>
>>215675333
TAS would be perfect TOS episodes if AI could flesh them out to be 45 minutes instead of 22 because the stories are clearly TOS stories, but sped up for kid brains.

>no TNG films
I can see the hatred for Nemesis, but the others? Nemesis doesn't even bother me. Why should it?

>no voyager
Oh come on! Captain Photon episodes are based. Janeway putting the abomination to death-based.
The problem with Voyager is Kes and lots of bad episodes.
>>
>>215675408
the best TNG film is First Contact, which sucks as Star Trek and is not good enough action schlock to actually seek it out. Nemesis is terrible. The others are basically not worth mentioning and wouldn't even be good two-parters.
>>
>>215675627
Insurrection is a damn fine two-part episode, anon.

Eh, it's okay. I don't think it's particularly funny. Made me chuckle a couple times, nothing more. I do appreaciate that they actually made an effort to draw cute, appealing characters.
>>
>>215674751
I don't know who it was but Wang absolutely pissed off somebody off from high up. In the pilot fucking episode Harry talks about wearing an eye mask to bed cause it reminds him of his time in the womb. The character got shit from the fucking get go and not only did Kim never get a promotion, Wang also never got permission to direct an episode.

>>215674078
>Him hooking up with Seven was bullshit
Course it was, Beltran only asked for it hoping the producers would finally fire him but just like his constant demands for more money, they granted it.
>>
Star Trek ended with What You Leave Behind
Star Wars ended with X Wing Alliance

went back to Voyager, stayed just long enough to get 7 of 9, and with her doctor it became ok

Star Trek Picard, when the Season 2 episode 3

I did watch season 3 of Picard, but it wasn't "good" except as a glimpse of the Enterprise-D for a few minutes, and some slightly more realistic dialogue (and not cocaine-powered "romantasy" purple prose which is clearly all that the writers read)
I mean, Picard and Beverly bickering like an old divorced couple was interesting, but when the plot revolves around a pair of 90-somethings having had a soap-opera tier hidden+unplanned pregnancy of a 40-year old man 20 years ago, that's not good writing

I've been watching SNW but not any of the goofier episodes
based on what i've seen about it I won't be watching SF Academy at all
i'll still watch Trek but I'm much more selective about it
>>
>>215671081
This. A few episodes into ENT and I knew it was over
>>
>>215675233
I just miss it. I miss the comfy dull atmosphere, the writing that felt like it was written by people with an IQ over 95, the plots that questioned your morals, the cast that weren’t ugly as all fuck
>>
>>215671070
I don't know if people remember, but Discovery inexplicably split the first season up with a 2 month break after episode 9. I had kept up with it out of misguided franchise loyalty until then and then my total lack of interest bore fruit in those 2 months and I forgot about it.
>>
>>215671070
Voyager was great, fuck all of you. Also, the new Voyager game has a free demo and it’s actually pretty good. I recommend it if you are nearly dead from modern Trekslop, it actually feels competently written
>>
>>215679309

>>
>>215671070

>>
>>215679894
Where did I say that? He was clearly written as a wet-behind the ears ensign on his first assignment, you taking personal offence to that is just you projecting some insecurities of your own or something
>>
>>215679978
Giving him a line about being reminded of the mother's womb is nothing short of pissing all over him and it's not like his character gets any better either.
>>
>>215680035
It’s literally them equating him to a new born babe, y’know like an ensign on his first assignment. Once again I’m not sure why you take personal offence to this
>>
>>215680078
It's a humiliating thing to say and if you combine that with scenes like him being fake castrated by that fear clown and his posse, it paints a pretty clear picture of what the writers thought of him. On top you add the eternal ensign and Wang getting cucked out of getting even a single directing opportunity.
>>
>>215680174
I’m no expert but it seems like they gave directing opportunities to people who demonstrated talent or had long experience in tv and film. Garrett was a piss poor actor and had no such experience. What are you, some sort of commie?
>>
>>215680232
No he's r/asianmasculinity
>>
>>215680232
ST has had a long tradition of letting lead actors take the directors seat for an episode or two, Frakes took to it especially but pretty much everyone from the main series got a shit at it.
Except Wang
>>
>>215680315
the girl that played the klingon roastie has been pretty much a full time tv director since voyager
>>
>>215671070
On and off really. Biggest one was halfway through Voyager when it was originally being aired. I haven't even seen Enterprise. Have watched some of NuTrek but I fucking hated most of it bar some episodes of STD S1, SNW and Picard S3.
>>
>>215680315
Frakes was a decent actor and had broad experience from years on TNG and soaps. Wang was a charisma vacuum on par with Beltran and had even less experience as an actor

>ent theme song
That would have been absolutely insane if it were decided upon by people who knew what the fuck they were doing. And that’s how we knew that Voyager sucking balls wasn’t a fluke. Roddenberry was the only executive who had any idea what the fuck the show was about & what made it work. Every other executive team since has been a disaster due entirely to fundamentally not understanding the show or the fans of it and deciding to change it all into something else they personally like instead of the thing that works and we like.

FFS the goddamn entirety of TOS & TNG are a blueprint for how to do it. We have a 1960s edition, we have a 1990s edition, and we even have DS9 which, while a departure, still exists and works perfectly fine in the universe the first two successful shows created. After that, Voyager should have been the 2000s version of the formula, and might have been had they not fucked up every aspect of its production. But what the geniuses should have done was said oh fuck it sucks, ok, we’ll try something different & fix it. Voyager makes it home in 2 seasons and it’s back to starfleet HQ for debriefing & then it’s new ships & new crews coming & going every week, with conflicts, expeditions, & politics in the fed & on earth. Anything. Instead the brilliant executives said, well that’s not working, let’s drag it out until it rots on the vine, and then say oh I guess people don’t like Star Trek shows at all, kill it off completely & then rebrand it into Marvel Star Wars. Idiots.

This scene absolutely slays on every level! It's pure Trek gold that hits you right in the feels! Here we have Captain Pike sitting down with a young James T. Kirk in what looks like the captain's quarters or a cozy lounge aboard the USS Enterprise. They're both rocking those iconic gold command uniforms! Pike with his captain's stripes gleaming on the sleeves, looking all seasoned and contemplative, while Kirk's got that youthful intensity, leaning in like he's absorbing every word. The lighting is soft and warm, with this retro-futuristic lamp glowing between them on a sleek side table, casting these subtle shadows that make the whole setup feel intimate and lived-in. There's a glass of what I assume is Saurian brandy or some synthale on the table, adding to that after-hours, off-duty relaxation. Pike's gesturing with his hand, probably dropping profound wisdom about the weight of the captain's chair, the isolation, the tough calls, the endless responsibility that comes with command. Kirk listens intently, hands clasped, like he's on the cusp of his legendary destiny.
Dude, this moment is chef's kiss perfection! It's the kind of deep-cut character development that Strange New Worlds excels at, bridging the legacy of The Original Series with modern storytelling flair. The dialogue is fire! It's like they bottled the essence of Trek's optimistic future while grounding it in real human connection. What gets me though, it's not some high-stakes phaser fight or warp core breach; It's just two captains vibing in a quiet moment, sipping drinks, sharing truths that resonate across the stars. There's this mellow, almost ASMR-level serenity to it, like you're eavesdropping on a late-night convo between old souls. It gives off those cozy, reflective hangs where time slows down, and you feel the vastness of space but also the warmth of camaraderie. This is the understated gem that reminds us why we love Trek.

Alice Krige is still the best one but Thompson had an interesting spin on her

Enterprise is bad in an entirely different way than everything that came after it so you can't really lump it into NuTrek.

voyager may have been worse then tng and tos, but it wasn't nearly as bad as your making it out to be. like yeah it had weird plotlines and shitty writing occasionally. But boring? tng had about 67 episodes that were about troi "sensing something was off" and "data wants to have emotions".
>>
>>215687880
I'll admit we don't see much of Cardassia, but there's a long Klingon society arc that takes them away from the station.

Keep going, you'll hate it at first, then you'll begin to like it ironically, then you'll get stockholm syndrome and genuinely start to like it.
After that you will go "GOAN WHERE MUH HEART WILL TAKE ME!!!! " in the shower.
It was a last minute change. The original opening theme was a variant of what you hear over the end credits.
I also like the intro itself, with the history of space travel going from our history, to present, and then into the future until you get the NX-01, which is the starting point for the future history of starfleet and the federation.
But yes, the song was jarring as fuck, and I watched this show when it premiered and I thought it was a fucking joke.

TNG had better characters. Everyone on Voyager was bland or obnoxious. You had Janeway, who was like the middle-management women I worked with in my supermarket job, and Chakotay, whose only defining character traits were a face tattoo and some vaguely "native" heritage that no one could possibly care about. Then you had Neelix cunting around, shoving his loathsome and punchable face onto the screen at every opportunity. They were all awful.

Eh, having obnoxious characters was kind of voyagers thing. like they had Paris who was an asshole, the doctor who was also and asshole, Bellana was a hothead and Seven of Nine was a cold unfeeling character for her first few seasons. the rest of the characters like Janeway, Chakotay tuvok kim etc were kind of on the opposite end by being more responsible and less irrational then their counterparts. Having obnoxious, irrational characters is also more interesting to watch.
>>
>>215688146
I remember an episode in the first season of Enterprise where the doctor refused to cure a dying people of their disease, and his reason was that it would go against the principle of natural selection. That was a strange episode and not very Star Trek.

Mulgrew is one of the better parts of the show.
If you've watched TNG and DS9 a million times already, and want more star trek, that's what voyager is, more trek. Most of it isn't very good, but its not terrible either, and there are plenty of solid episodes sprinkled through. I'd rank Counterpoint as one of the best episodes of trek.

data is so cool.

When I saw an interview with Patrick Stewart where he opined that Starfleet wasn't necessarily the good guys, and how the Romulan refugees tied into real-world mass migration, and how unhappy he was that Britain wasn't ethnically cleansing itself faster. 'It's fucked,' he burst out tearfully. It shocked me. Holy shit, this guy with the Shakespearean gravitas who gave us all this good kino is actually just another hysterical libtard who thinks with his feels like a teenage girl, and fuck me if I want to watch anything he's in charge of.

Then there was the glimpse of the Klingons from a different series where they all looked like fucking orcs from the LotR. Distanced myself instantly from that shit too. Never seen any of it, don't want to.

Why would the Romulans need to be taken in by the Federation anyway? Do they not have an empire full of habitable planets anymore? And why didn't they start evacuating Romulus until it was too late? If your star is going to explode you should know about it well in advance. Goddamn, the writing in nuTrek is awful
