I didn't hate Minus One (it's my 4rth or 3rd favorite Godzilla, favorite overall being Shin or Destoroyah) but I also didn't see Minus One until 2025 because it wasn't released in theaters here. I don't know if there was an initial debate on /tv/ about which film was better, but I think it's fair to say that Minus One is a better straightforward adaptation of Godzilla whereas Shin is a better elseworlds type story that takes more creative liberity. Both of them certainly mog a number of the other movies. GvD is the most cathartic for me though and I like the Heisei era the best as a whole.

I don’t get why people who hadn’t seen the movie thought they had the right to harass people who actually saw it because it went against their preconceived notions.And of course, all the hype about the great characters and stunning drama and 1954 level dark tone, none of that was true. But his design was oh so scary that it must be the best movie ever.It’s funny, because Minus was pretty much everything the annofags said shin was going to be, that’s probably why they hate it so much. And now the sequel is actually using suitmation, something some of them claimed Shin did for years after release.
