>The Smashing Machine’s underwhelming box office performance has been an interesting case study for box office experts. The film was mostly well-liked by critics — it holds a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes — and it also features another star in Emily Blunt. It was written and directed by Oppenheimer star Benny Safdie, and it’s backed by A24. The film was also being viewed as an Oscar contender, one that could even earn Johnson his first Academy Award. Unfortunately, none of this was enough to fill seats in theaters, and the film is reportedly going to lose A24 more than $50 million.
i guess josh reigns supreme
I wonder when the rock will stop trying to make the rock a thing. It's not gonna happen buddy, you ain't no bautista, stick to the tooth fairy and fast franchise.
>>215688395Who wants to see a cagehug movie? I dont know what they were thinking.
>>215688930jews are obsessed with wrestling
>>215688395is it a good movie?didnt really like Uncut Gems for its ADHD vibes
>>215689187I enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s a pretty straight forward athlete biopic with the Safdie aesthetic slickness to it. Not knowing the story beforehand made it more captivating to me, I think. The rock and Emily Blunt are good. 7/10
>>215689258thanks for a straight forward non-shitpost reply
>>215688395I can't find this Web-DL anywhere, still only Cam-Rips.
>>215689187redundant film since the documentary of the same name was already kino

EL SMASHO
>>215690000I'm starting to find Web-DL/Web-Rip torrents, but only uploaded in the past hour.
Should have made a Dan Severn movie instead.
>>215688592Marty Supreme will bomb as well.a sport biopic about a literally who ping pong player?
>>215690805Bruce Springsteen biopic is also flopping. It's over for biopics
>>215690898Good. I'm tired of those oscarbaits.
>>215690898I have no problem with biopics, they should just choose subjects with actually interesting lives. not every famous person needs a fucking biopic.
>>215688526I said it in the thread about this the other day and I'll say it again. The idea that a movie adaptation of a documentary about a niche fighter in a niche era of a niche promotion in a niche sport helmed by a niche director would sell shitall for tickets within the general audience was insane. There are maybe 100,000 people on the planet who actually know anything about Mark Kerr beyond having heard his name once. Easily less than half give a shit about him at all and maybe a tenth of the remainder would be willing to pay for a ticket to see a biopic about him. Fucking nobody in the general audience is buying a ticket on a whim to see a movie about Mark fucking Kerr. If this were a self funded Megalopolis style passion project, fine, but there were people who invested in this production actually expecting to see a return. What's next, you going to make a quarter billion dollar biopic about Rusty Wallace and do next to no marketing for it beyond having the lead actor show up to Daytona a couple years before the release? The whole thing is just bizarre.
>>215691361Mark Kerr himself also isn't really that interesting apart from being one of the first that America knew about. Bas Rutten is in this movie and his life is much more interesting but there's like 4 people in the world who give a fuck about him.
>>215691361i think they sincerely thought dwayne is still such a draw that having him not in a token action guy role would get butts in seats>wow the rock is wearing shitty prosthetics and is in a serious movie! WOWmaybe 5-10 years ago such a simple ploy would have worked but no one cares>>215691300i love a good biopic but yea, the subject matter is poison. making a biopic about people who are still alive and the depth of their story is surface level at best is bizarre. either a big historical figure that's faded from common cognisance or choose someone with a frankly unbelievable story. why do you need a springsteen biopic when he's still touring
