For the dummies that didn't get it : All the prawns seen in the movie (except Christopher) are other species that the alien goop transformed into prawns, same as what happened to Wikus. Those were collected and used as manual labor on the big ship, except the actual prawn overlords died off for one reason or another and the goop-converted slaves didn't know shit from shinola so they were aimlessly idling about.Christopher is not "coming back" because to him Wikus is just another convert slave of no relevance.

Looking at Blomkamp's career, he never even made a small movie, he did VFX, made some Halo cinematics and from there directed a blockbuster. So it's no surprise his career hasn't been great since Elysium, but Gran Turismo was a bit of a comeback at least.

But then the scifi stuff kicks in and, well you really end up looking deranged if you try to stick to the apartheid themes interpretation after Wikus's transformation. I doubt the overwhelming majority of stinkpiece writers who talked about the themes of this movie adnauseum shortly after release actually watched the whole thing. At least I hope they didn't.
