I don't see why he's considered a great actor. He doesn't have much range.
>He doesn't have much range.Jack of all trades. Master of none.
but did you see the one where he plays they gay guy
>>215694518mainly because of his Russian accent i Rounders
>>215694518He's decent but not extraordinary. My favourite performances of his are the blind guy in Places in the Heart, himself in Being John Malkovich and the assassin in In the Line of Fire. Still think his nomination for the latter should have gone to Val Kilmer in Tombstone though.
>>215694518Hes ugly but you remember him being in a lot of big movies so he must be a good actor like gary oldman or morgan freeman but theyre all about the same as nicholas cage
He plays irritated and cold sociopath very well.
>>215694691Gary Oldman can actually play different characters. Morgan Freeman just plays old black guy.
Why do all actors need a “range”? He’s obviously the type of actor that just plays himself and he’s well known because of his unique way of speaking and enunciating words.
>>215695070>Why do all actors need a “range”?So they can play more than one role. Are you really asking that?
>>215695085Yes because lot of actors are successful just playing that “one role”. Joe Pesci can only really do the angry little italian guy but are you going to say he didn’t have a successful career?
>>215695114Have you ever heard of "typecasting"? Actors specifically want to avoid it. While you can make a career out of playing the same thing over and over most people, actors included, don't want to do the same thing over and over.
>>215695085If you're good at something you perfect it. When someone wants a certain type of character they usually have a particular person in mind for the role because they know they can nail it effortlessly. Not all actors need range. Being a specialist increases your chance at being in good movies. Taking any role you can get can be bad for your career in the long run. Just look at all those B actors that only do straight to video garbage for $100.
>>215695142Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t know that you know so many actors personally. Jesus dude your literally putting celebrities on a pedestal. I highly doubt the vast majority of them care much about being “artists” deep down. The successful ones can say that shit but it’s just a job at the end of the day. You think Kevin James gives a shit that he’ll be mostly known as the “king of queens” guy? Look at Tony Shalhoub. He had a successful career before Monk but was perfectly happy to play that part for so long and now a lot of people only know him as Monk.
>>215695220Great, we'll just encourage all actors to only be good at one thing. No way that would lead to a shortage of people capable of playing more roles.
>>215694518There should be a movie about living this man's life
>>215694518It's because he had an affair with Michelle Pfeiffer while being married. Men thought he was a real ladies man
Maybe people associated him with his role in Dangerous Liaisons where he plays a master manipulator.I like him in Being JM and Burn After Reading.
>>215695446Hilaruous that people say he has no range and only plays himself and one of his most famous roles is the one where he plays himself.
>>215695538Maybe it's a Larry David situation where the guy he plays as "himself" is not actually himself
>>215694518he was good in that movie where he played a jewel thief
>>215694518He's always seemed extremely gay to me. How the fuck is he not gay.
>>215694774>Gary Oldman can actually play different charactersnot well
>>215694563Correct.
He plays an angry manyou are part of a LEAGUE of morons
I watched death of a salesmen the other day, decent movie>>215695446Yeah those are his most entertaining roles
