I liked how the fights all use the environment and local fauna, there's a point where he has to improvise new weapons out of all the weird shit on the planet and it's awesome.
I like the chemistry with Thia (Elle character), it's believable how they end up working together and it's cute when she acts excited about hunting together and being interested in in other species.
I like the sound design, idk what to say it's just great at getting you into the mood.
I didn't expect anything particularly deep but the main theme of finding practical value in empathy and transcending the expectations placed on you and making your own choices was well done.
I know people are jaded and I'm usually here mocking and complaining about movies but I actually unironically enjoyed this one from start to finish which is fucking rare.

It's not a bad ":movie," but it is a bad predator movie. The movies (at least up to 2010 Predators, arguably even Prey) were a brutal examination of the world's best warriors, soldiers and killers suddenly finding themselves on the opposite end and us rooting for them to (somehow) succeed against a far more advanced threat. There was no deep plot or deeper themes, just the hunt above all else.

Now, it's "disney-fied" and can't be taken seriously as it once was. Quippy, kid-friendly humor, themes of "found family" and love, sanitized action sequences, merchandise potential with the alien baby thing (forgot it's name) and a neutered predator. Hell, there's not even a "fuck" uttered in the whole movie. It's was like the Hallmark channel got hold of the Predator franchise. I can accept expanding on Yautja culture and their sociological complexities (they need to have a stable society and economy for all the tech they use after all), but I'll only accept Dek as a real Predator if he hunts real humans just as mercilessly as his predecessors.

Right now he's getting mixed feedback because he's more of a goody-two-shoes hippie Predator instead of a universal menace to any living organism that can defend itself. He needs to do more to convince long-time Predator fans that he isn't that far different.

Saw it at the kinoplex last night. Went in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
Dek's design isn't great but I get it, giganiggas from Somalia look like a different species to Han Chinese, I can forgive it.
The monkey pushed it a little bit, but wasn't too bad. I liked how it rolled around.
What I really appreciated was that Elle stayed legless for 90% of the film. Most modern films wouldn't commit to the bit for the majority of the runtime.
I'm also a sucker for death planets so I loved the survival aspect.
Overall, good flick.
