It drops off around S5 and becomes hit or miss around S8-S9 though there's still some great episodes
S1-S4 is great though and never gets old on rewatch

The biggest mistake you can make is try to rush through it. Work through them at a gradual pace and enjoy it. Binge culture for television is fucking aids

Expectation is the thief of joy. Monster of the week stories with overarching plot is to me the best format for shows to take, rather than everything being overarching. You get comedy episodes, horror episodes, more sci-fi type stuff. But importantly, you give the show the benefit of the doubt. New shows push fear of missing out anxiety, virality, super high expectations. It just disappoints. Where as this stuff could pleasantly surprise you with a banger of an episode even after a shit one.
>>
>>215792630
I watched the first 4 or 5 seasons during covid. by my memory my favorite episodes are the incest family one, the one with the telemarketers being held hostage, the one where there's a vampire but he's really just a normal serial killer and he almost kills scully, also the one with the satanic cult sacrificing kids at a school, the one with the retard who impregnates all the women and the one where they go to a freak show and scully shows most of her tits while wearing a bath robe.
>>
>>215793548
Can you be a bit clearer on your statement please?
>>
Why has there been so much X-Files posting the last few months?
>>
Season 1 is still my favorite season even though it’s not the best. Just so raw and full of mid 90s feels. Long shots with just Mark Snow’s atmospheric music

>>
I do love how many episodes have that:
>*Initial thing happens*
>Mulder has batshit theory, well beyond what the basic bit of evidence says.
>Mulder is proven right.
>Scully is strategically out of the room at the time the shit goes down.
Like Mulder could find a praying mantis egg at a crime scene and will instantly be like, "Praying Mantis Man killed this guy, the hokopoko Indians had a myth og the Praying mantis Man." I guffawed in the movie when the giant space ship appeared and Scully's face was conveniently in the snow.

What the fuck happened to television after the 90s? You had all these amazingly unique and original shows (x-files, twin peaks, the star treks, seinfeld, simpsons, futurama, koth, early south park) and then all of a sudden they replaced them with the most generic boring shit imaginable. Was 9/11 responsible for this? Because it all happened around that time.

The industry has constantly cheapened out on writers and fought with actual creatives, moving away from writers towards producer/showrunner led projects. Writers now aren't journeymen who work on various projects, their experience comes from being online. Shows fit algorithms. Budgets are too high.

Watch the first five seasons and the first movie. The mythology collapses under its own weight in Season 6.
>>
>>215792630
For maximum kino, watch the "Aliens Mythology Arc" and every episode above an 8.5 rating on TV Rating graph. Non-stop bangers.

See:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_X-Files_episodes (Episodes marked with a double dagger (‡) are episodes in the series' alien mythology arc.)
- ratingraph . com/tv-shows/the-x-files-ratings-4727/ (Rating >8.5)
>>
>>215792630
Season 6 is a lot better than it gets credit for, despite taking a few episodes to regain its footing after the move to LA. I'm almost at the halfway point of Season 7 and it's pretty decent so far, but there's definitely a staleness creeping in. Sixth Extinction was a total shark-jump moment.
>>
>>215797786
Also after season five they had a new production crew and stopped shooting in the Pacific North West. The whole vibe changed dramatically. Season 6 and after is a different show.
>>
>>215792630
Just watch all of it stop pretending like you have anything better to do
>>
>>215792630
>Are all 218 episodes worth consooming?

X-Files was The Simpsons before The Simpsons was. There are far, far more bad episodes than there are good, it's an incredibly front loaded show.

Also don't binge because the ongoing story does not exist. They never for even one second had a plan for where anything was going, there's nothing there at all.
>>
>>215793706
It’s been going on a lot longer than that, it’s a certified /tv/ classic
>>
>>215797786
The mythology ends in season 6. Two Fathers/One Son was basically the movie sequel we never got and might as well have been the series finale. All the alien stuff after that was bullshit.
>>
>>215797878
Anon, I know people like it here, but there has been an uptick in threads very recently.
>>
>>215797850
Yeah. Moving the production from Vancouver to LA totally killed the atmosphere.

>>215797899
I stopped watching after Season 5 and "Fight the Future". The cracks in the mythology began appearing as early as "Redux".
>>
>>215797979
I'm watching for the first time and just finished the movie. And yeah, the conspiracy shit is so all over the place and honestly, what information do you have? Alien colonists, black goo virus, mutations to that virus, alien bounty hunter, body gas.
>>
>>215797899
Two Fathers/One Son is at least funny in a clownshoes way with how their big answers revealed two parter ends with them gathering every single person involved in the Conspiracy in a warehouse and setting it on fire
>>
>>215797979
Redux was so stupid and contrived considering the movie had already been completely written and filmed, so the "aliens are just a government hoax" arc could've never been more than a brief digression to keep the mythology going while the movie waited in the wings. At least Scully's cancer actually went somewhere and had consequences.
>>
>>215798069
The stuff that you mentioned about the black oil, alien bounty hunters, and bees is all kino. The mythology rocked for those first five seasons.

Season 3 > Season 4 > Season 2 > Season 1 > Season 5

The mythology peaks in Seasons 2 and 3.
>>
>>215798069
It all comes together in the end, more or less. They even bring back shit you probably forgot about like purity control.
>>
>>215798157
>is all kino
I never implied it wasn't, I just kind of think that you get a bunch of pieces but they don't always seem to fit well. Like at this point, they basically said:
>black goo has been around for millions of years and the other aliens want to colonise earth and get the black goo aliens back but the black goo is causing mutation and alien gestation but we also have bees to deliver the virus and we also have maybe vaccine
Like it doesn't feel completely coherent currently
>>
>>215798094
I know. I remember how excited I was when I watched the mythology episodes in Seasons 2 and 3. I was really invested. The Monster-of-the Week episodes have aged the best. My favourite episodes are all Monster-of-the-Week episodes.
>>

The black oil caused alien hybrids to chest-burst out of human hosts and grow to full fize very quickly and they behave like a xenomorph, killing indiscriminately.
Of what use could such creatures be as "colonists?"
>>
Myth arc is irrelevant. It was always suppose to be a Monster of the week show. “The myth” shit only happened because Anderson got pregnant in the middle of season 1 and they had to create a storyline to separate the two in season 2 when she was extremely pregnant and for when she was gone aka alien abduction. Originally just going to be vague, there are aliens and government knows about it and cover it up and that’s it
>>
>>215792693
me at 3x8 and it is pure fucking kino. Scully is hot as fuck and you can see how 1990s America was a paradise, a different world, different people. KINO
>>
Only as background noise. I never realized how much of it were garbage plot episodes.
You get to see 'Gatsby' from Californicatio season 2 in 2 different episodes as 2 different characters. I like that guy, he should have had more roles. Also Walt and Tuco from Breaking Bad have an episode each.
>>
>>215801412
this is completely fabricated nonsense. None of you will probably watch this but I will link it anyway.

The myth arc, which has been criticized by casual plebs, was actually incredibly tight from day one

>>
>>215792630
I watched a few first episodes recently and it was embarassing to watch
like the entire episode hinges on a polygraph being treated as 100% accurate truth

any mystery shows that aren't lazy copaganda and try to be realistic? I liked some Korean shows for this, it was called "Stranger" I think about prosecutors who had to actually find court-admissible evidence to put a guy in jail and not just have them admit without a lawyer at the end of an episode
>>
>>215793706

As much as people didn't like him T2 did have some kino moments.

>most people are stupid and got filtered by a tv show until someone who isnt stupid explained it to them
you think this is a unique circumstance?
>>
>>215803754
in all seriousness though, I am being antagonistic. I dont think people got filtered per se, it is a show that went 11 seasons with 20 something episodes per season. It was an intriqute plot as well. Watching every single episodpe, every single season then putting all the pieces in the correct place with some shit being referenced 15 years later etc is a bit too much to ask the average person. I think carter came out with a book that explained it all and that is where this video gets most of its info. It is easy to know the big picture when you made the big picture. My only point was it did actually make sense and all fit together when you have all the pieces
