No shit there's no hole in the window, there's no window left. Having thrown a few grenades myself, the destruction outside is correct, but all the little fires in the rock garden are wrong. The truck is correct, but the tires would be flat on the left side. At least one would be.

That is usually what happens to windows when a grenade detonates five feet away from them, yes.
Zosia has skinny little arms. I'm surprised she managed to throw it that far.
Here, template for my joke. Use it as you like.
>>
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed how improbable the "grenade" scene is, imagine the chances of a fake grenade bouncing just right to hit the engine of a car and make it explode, HIGHLY unlikely.
>>
>>215935598
>But also because they are weirdly honest (per the synopsis) they will damage her ego
Maybe she asks them to read her serious novel.
>>
>>215935550
What do you expect to happen to residential windows when a grenade goes off 10ft away? Even just a high explosive charge of that size would certainly blow those windows out let alone all the shrapnel that grenade would have generated.
>>
>>215935621
it was a fake grenade though as mentioned by carol herself
>>
>>215935633
ooo i can see that
>>
>>215935516
It's more than likely she would be very unhappy if she was being sarcastic about the grenade. It's not like she was being sarcastic about what flavor of carmel popcorn she wanted and said hot dog flavored. Because hot dog flavor wouldn't blow her head off. So yeah the math doesn't check out.
>>
>>215935646
I don't think Carol is a reliable expert in her appraisal of Zosia's grenade. She's drunk, and a writer, and a woman.

Zosia clearly drew on the experience of millions of baseball players who were all experts at throwing round heavy objects and whipped that fake grenade so hard into the truck engine that the sheer velocity caused the engine to blow up.
Catch up, noob. This was clear to even casual viewers.
>>
Why didn't Zosia just eat the grenade?
>>
>>215935620
>thinking logically and sending over a friend or family member is already a bit weird
Given Carol's reluctance and anger, the logical conclusion is that she would hate to see any friend of family turned into that. Choosing a stranger was the best solution for her case.

She HAS NO family or friends. That's the point. Only her dead lover. It's the reason her being a dyke works better than not in this specific case for the show. It saves a lot of needles off the central plot hand wringing. I'm still not buying the turbo autism though. It's the sloppiest piece of writing in the whole show. But I'm sure they felt they needed it as an excuse to bring a nuke into the conversation for the show.

I went back and scrutinized episode 1 more closely because the pacing felt so fucky. basically every scene is suspiciously close to being increments of 5 minutes, obviously rounding out the differences and including some scene transitions.

I'm too lazy to write detailed synopsis, but:
>E01 - 55m runtime
>5m - Radio signal and breeding virus
>5m - Carol's book signing shit
>10m - Virus inception and spread at secure lab
>10m - Bar socializing scene and virus attack
>5m - Carol rushing to get Helen to hospital
>5m - Carol leaving hospital and returning home
>15m - Barricading home and establishing contact with hivemind

this show must have really went through development hell if it's THIS formulaic, holy shit. especially with how fucking boring ep 3 is.

First and foremost I'd get the answers to a shitton of questions.
What exactly happened when JFK was assassinated? Where is Hoffa? Have we ever encountered aliens or anything supernatural?
You can get the answer to all the big questions, as long as just one person alive knows the answer. And you could get very personal. What did X think of Y? Whatever happened to that one person I met that one time?
After that I'd probably ask for some models or famous actresses and then just have some orgies.

If I was in the Mauritanian chud's shoes my first order of business (after securing a bunnygirl harem and getting some good fucking food) would be to make a bunch of babies and elderly people whip and nae-nae for my entertainment. I'd laugh, maybe throw some apple cores or beer cans at them while ordering them to dance faster.
Maybe I'd tried the "bring me the two strongest men in the world and make them fight to the death" request previously, but the bloodshed made me uncomfortable, and I'd decided that this is a more relaxing form of entertainment.
Eventually I'd grow bored and retire to have vile forms of sex with at least two of my bunnygirls, take a shower, then drink heavily and do some cocaine before being chauffeured to a nearby mansion, where I destroy things with a golf club until I grow bored again. Maybe I'd request a few men to build a maze in an urban area, and I'd have them rush me around on a litter while I shot rubber bullets at various minorities, who I also summoned to the area.

At the risk of sounding like an ass, I'll explain a little.
Grenades explode along manufactured stress points, and are superheated.
The shrapnel is insanely hot due to the stress needed to rupture, and the acceleration rate of 2 miles per second.
If the shrapnel embeds in something, it transfers that heat to it.
We're just working with grenades right now, not rockets or missiles.
So very little flame. Unless the shrapnel embeds itself in something highly flammable, or ruptures something with highly flammable liquid.
You won't see fires in the grassy rock garden looking like that.
You MAY see fires coming from burning oil, gasoline, or shitty upholstery in the truck.
Wood will not burn that big of a fire that fast from a grenade explosion.
You have to have an accelerent to ignite, all of the grenade explosive is gone immediately upon detonation, it does not fling flaming chunks of burning substance.
At least, not that model of grenade.
It looks like just a standard M67 grenade, but I couldn't read enough on it to tell if it was impact or timed. Zosia grabbing it to throw indicates it was most likely M67, as the M68 would not be armed until it hit something after throwing, which means that it was safe to be held even with the handle gone.
Either way, neither of those grenades light fires as a primary function, nor disperse flammable material.

That was an interesting bit, it makes it sound less like "we're all one mind" and more like "we can scroll through someone's unconscious memories and see a screenshot of the last time she opened the fridge", which is pretty spoopy.
Carol's "ummm ackshually the carton is 3/4 full!" could either be her usual seething, or a hint that the Plurbs' memory retrieval is imperfect.

I'd say many of them are working and they just allocate bodies as they need. They're probably keeping the rest of the bodies they are not using healthy, they work out, eat, stay away from dangers. I wonder what dangerous jobs still exist, they probably don't need to do offshore drilling or I wonder if they need oil at all for example.

What bothers me is that they're still wearing their regular clothes as if the hive mind doesn't have a preference for the most efficient garment for each weather, or already started mass producing a single type of clothing that is hyper efficient and can be manufactured at scale. I also wonder if they have the need to build things and if they will eventually will create a hive somewhere in a large continent where land is uninterrupted and you can fit and provide for all bodies.

I don't think so.
Every memory can be studied by every other person on the planet in an entirely objective way. Everyone who knows the person, everyone who was present at the time, every psychiatrist, doctor, engineer, etc. would consider it and they would end up giving the best answer they can.
If they think the person imagined it or have been told a lie they wouldn't insist it was true just because the one person believed it.
>>
>>215936587
I actually thought they would address that since the plurbs are autistic about efficiency.
I also half expected a moment where they got to show how they're enlightened communards by chuckling at her reaching for her wallet or something.
Very underutilized scene.
>>
>>215936191
But I'm actually kind of serious with the question. What kind of morals / ethics does the hivemind as a whole have?
We know it won't kill / murder any life outside of plants.
But what about more human morals?

Man if I was talking to a hivemind I would be asking it an endless series of questions in order to understand it, and Carol has that opportunity but just doesn't seem to give a shit about asking it anything. Like ask it what is the origin of the signal and what is the purpose of it? Why is she just not curious at all? I mean the hivemind probably doesn't know either way, but at least ask it to see if she can try to understand.

You can do it, it's just harder than stripping the safety wire and safety pin all at once.

You could rip the pin, and then lift the handle hard before throwing rather than fuck with that goddamn wire. Fuck that safety wire bullshit.

Alright, maybe it's because when I was watching the first two episodes, I hadn't heard that this was supposed to be about AI, and now that I watched the third episode, I already knew about it.

But the scene at the end makes it really hard to see this as anything other than an AI analogy because why the fuck would the hivemind be willing to give her a hand grenade again, let alone anything above that?

I feel like everything in the previous episodes could be waved off as the hivemind being ok with with making sacrifices for the sake of the immune's happiness (with the urge of wanting to assimilate them in the back of their mind) but now they are basically saying "Yes" to assisted suicide. How is that in the best interest of either them or Carol from their perspective?

Also, sorry to be a bit of a boomer, but this is the first TV show from Apple TV I follow along weekly. When exactly do new episodes come out? Has this third one been out for days?

I have a high suspicion the virus was created to make humans docile when the aliens show up, that's why they're forcing everyone to "convert". They're bullshitting about being happy about the shared connection, because even the first infected human was blissful despite having 0 other people to connect with in the hivemind.
>>
>>215936923
She keeps asking for an uninfected doctor, as it that would help. She knows she has no useful skills, yet isn't studying in her spare time. Typical woman.
>>
From a purely literary standpoint, this episode is bonkers.

Putting aside the obvious metaphor of an episode of angst building up to a literal explosion, you have a woman so miserable because she is getting everything she has ever wanted.

The opening scene shows Carol visiting a freezing hotel she clearly wouldn’t have wanted to visit of her own accord. People were saying “how did they end up together,” but it’s clear to me that they are perfect for each other. Helen sees through Carol’s facade and knows what she needs, pushing her despite her protests.

Now that she doesn’t have this, Carol is miserable. The hive will bend over backwards to please her, but the problem is that Carol doesn’t even know what Carol wants.

Her anger is being shouted into a void with no feedback. If the hive would at least clap back she’d get some kind of satisfaction. She says she is self-reliant, yet as soon as anything inconveniences her, she calls up the hive and barks at them. And I think deep down, she wants them to tell her no, but they don’t. Instead they fulfill her every last wish until at the end of it all Carol’s anger has nowhere else to go besides inward in a situation of learned helplessness.

She desperately wants someone to tell her no, hence the last scene where she tests the limits of their obedience.

>>215936880
In all fairness, Helen was not there to drink her share of oatmilk for two days.
The hivemind misjudged Carol's consumption rate, as Carol told them to forget all Helen related information.
So, the hivemind was right in their estimation, but wrong because they weren't allowed to include Helen in it's math.

this is about white women getting everything they want in society and being at the top of the food chain. Carol, a white woman, gets to boss around brown people the entire show, she is angry and a complete bitch the entire time yelling at minorities when things don't go her way, literally killing millions because she cant control her emotions, she expects everyone to bend over backwards for her. Just like White women in real life.

>>
>>215936845
Vince says it isn't deliberately about AI. I can kinda see an argument.
LLMs hardly have a monopoly for "hivemind" media. Think of The Matrix. It was originally meant to be a paradise, until people realized a paradise felt like hell. It wouldn't surprise me if the excessive perfection caused some of the plurbs to revert.
>>
>>215936896
>airborne pathogen itself is sentient

Doubt,. Too Trek-y. And this show has gone out of its way to present as hard of sci-fi as the premise will allow.
>>
It doesn't make any sense for them to refuse to kill animals to cook them for the model fucking guy but to be ok with giving someone a nuclear bomb.
>>
>>215936998
I don't think it's about that, but I do think that reading of it is going to be reinforced even more strongly by the end of the thing. E2 was very deliberately framed that way, and so was the Sprouts thing. Sprouts is the epitome of explosive white women.
>>
>>215937034
My problem is just exclusively with them not going "Sorry, Carol, but no, we're not giving you any weapons anymore, you might hurt yourself, go look for them yourself"

I get it, they want Carol to be happy, but the limits don't seem consistent here.
>>
>>215936795
The hive's morality is one aspect that still has me scratching my head.
They won't kill bugs, but they'll give someone weapons and only seem mildly annoyed that Carol's meltdowns kill millions of people? What if someone said "I always liked the spear-throwing scene in Apocalypto, let's recreate that with live targets"?

Carol asking for a nuke was the only time they seemed uncomfortable with a request, even though they relented after a few seconds. My pessimistic side could see the hive understanding that humans are bent on destroying each other, so they stop being so cooperative, leading to a quasi "human resistance" uprising.
Lord Vince says he wants at least a few seasons, so who knows. Once the show shows its hand it's going to be hard to keep the mystique going, unless it's mutated into an entirely different show by then.
>>
>>215937061
They're basically deontologists while the humans are consequentialists. What someone else does, in their mind, doesn't impugn their ethical purity.
>>
>>215937118
Then why did they hesitate when she asked for an atom bomb but still relent in the end?
>>
>>215937105
They've literally had their capacity for disagreement and violence turned off, I don't think the hivemind could even function otherwise. Look at how they spazz out when exposed to sufficiently strong negative emotion.

To make up for my nitpicking I will say that they got me good with the hand grenade.

When she asked for a hand grenade, I immediately rolled my eyes going "Why would the hivemind be stupid enough to take her request seriously?"

But then they went "Ok, you were almost certainly joking, but just in case". That got me pretty good. Also the speech about wanting to save someone from drowning was very well written as well.

It's just them being ok with giving her another grenade or another bazooka or a nuclear bomb that is bothering me.

I don't know if the hive really has much morality, there are just biological imperatives it must follow. There are rules the virus forces all its hosts to operate under. So far those rules are:
1. The virus must be spread, every uninfected person must join the hivemind
2. They can't destroy life
3. Until they can be infected, the uninfected must be cared for and kept happy
Giving Carol the nuke ultimately falls under 3, if it makes Carol happy then they have no choice. In this matter, rule 3 has more priority than 2, the hive can't kill but they will give uninfected people the tools to kill if they request it. The hive hesitated with Carol's request for the nuke because they could tell she was making a point about how insane they really are, so they tried to phrase their answer in a way that sounds reasonable. Yes, they would give over the nuke but only after telling Carol how dangerous that would be.

It's not about AI, just coincidentally falls in place with AI. The script and filming were done well before the LLM boom. Yes, yes, "akshually LLMs are years old" but nobody gave a fuck about them until like 2 years ago at most because they were all retarded as fuck before OepnAI came on the scene. Even if Vince knew about LLMs when making this, they weren't as Pluribus adjacent at the time he was writing the script, they were still more like Siri/Cortana/whatever in terms of their "intelligence" so didn't sound quite the same and weren't as accommodating as current LLMs at all.

It's just the perfect time for this kind of show to release cause its themes uncannily reflect the current state of AI.

Season 3 - Carol using alien tech to end the hive
Season 4 - Carol in hiding because people actually enjoyed being part of the hive and now she's the most hated person on earth

It's a commentary on LessWrong and utilitarians. Even though the ChatGPT-led AI boom hadn't happened when the show began development, Silicon Valley people were talking about the hedonistic imperative, the necessity of developing AI because of future s-risk, the pros and cons of violating people's self-determination to increase the amount of utility in the world, etc.
>>
>>215937479
its very obviously not that kind of show
>>
>>215937313
I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Paraguay dude is doing. He's the actual competent real protagonist of the show that they'll bait and switch us with once he comes into the picture. Carol is busy being a dumb bitch with perpetual woman moment, and this dude is probably head's down in a fucking bunker reading and studying everything he can to figure out how the fuck to actually fix the situation. He probably told them to get him research materials and fuck off unless he calls them for more, hence his anger at Carol calling him and him assuming it's Plurbs again to ask him if he needs a meal or rimjob or whatever the fuck they keep anxiously offering him cause they know what he's doing but can't stop him themselves. Carol will stop being the focus of the story around EP 6 or something and we'll get to the actual fucking hero of the story who wants to do something rather than sit down and watch Gilmore Girls or Sex and The City reruns perpetually drunk on the sofa.
>>
Why don't they make a fire hotel

Well, people's memories can literally be wrong
Theyre wrong all the damn time, actually. At some point plurb is gonna bring up something from her past as helen remembered it and it's going to not match up with carol's memory and it's not going to lead to anything significant because nothing is going to fucking happen ever in this show

I think you're right about what he's doing, but I have zero expectations that he'll actually take center stage. This whole thing absolutely will be a vehicle for them to talk about how and why Carol is so miserable.

Dont talk to my woman that way

carol's karen levels are too high, it's like watching a series about skyler being a cunt.
>>
>>215937549
Yea, in the same episode they also pulled the "whoops, we didn't mean to cut your power. We kinda fucked up - meant to isolate your grid but made an oopsie." Which I took to mean that they're just as competent as the dumbasses to collectively run the powergrid in her area. It doesn't matter if they have all the world's knowledge combined if the localized village idiots are retarded and the only ones with knowledge on the subject at hand. The union guys at that job don't remember the grid layout cause they don't do any fucking work all day anyway.

Did you watch episode 3? It's going to be backstory.

There would be, if not for the fact "reddit spacing" has been a thing as long as the website has existed.
>>
Can someone tell me how to edit my posts here? Not a newfag just haven't posted on 4chan in like 19 years. Last I remembered, we only had like 2 boards lol. But anyway I made a typo earlier but don't know how to edit it?

originalfags are not the same as oldfags. It takes time for chan culture to develop and people to sort out what's based and what's faggoty
>>
>>215937620
Nice.

That shit always comes off as "Hello fellow Anons" levels of tryhard.
>>
>>215937711
I'm not an originalfag, I've been here since 07, I was "redditspacing" before that point because it's a very common style of posting among my age in web forums and such and I will continue """redditspacing""" forever and I can just post that image at everyone that accuses me of "redditspacing"

There's literally nothing wrong with """""redditspacing"""""". It makes the posts look less cluttered.
>>
>>215937620
I mostly based my response on the content of the post. That's such a reddit thing to say.
Also I can tell you browse /pol/ you chud, /pol/tards love posting their gay little graphs
>>
>>215937698
It just happening to be in your own back yard seems kind of sus.
>>
>>215937711
this is exactly what the hive would say
>>
>>215937737
Your insecurity about it is pretty pathetic though
>>
>>215937745
That image probably was taken from /pol/, but someone posted it once here or on another board I actually browse, and I have used it ever since. It's great and confirms what has always been obvious to me.

"Redditspacing" isn't a thing and it's people telling on themselves or newfags just following a hivemind they don't understand.

Bassically a mass psyop.
>>
>>215937505
A better idea would be a hotel made out of stone that can be heated to a comfortable temp without melting
>>
do I fit in yet bros, i battle /r/4chan all day like a good warrior, i post there more than I even post here to defend our honor.
>>
>>215937766
It's not insecurity, it's me catching you with the hand in the cookie jar, mate. It's an easy goal for me every time.
>>
>>215937770
I think you're posts would look better without the spacing between each line bro, can you work on that mmk thanks
>>
pluribus is a good show
>>
>>215937597
This is what people don't understand
Yes plurb can fly planes and stuff, but when you REALLY come down to the actual details, it's literally average intelligence in all areas
>>
>>215937376
It's pretty distracting :x I was looking forward to cool hivemind ant colony sequences but I guess you can't really count on extras for that. They're all too transparently excited to be there
>>
>>215937819
I think it's fun
>>
>>215937795
You made a graph misinterpreting data to justify your posting habits, sounds pretty insecure to me. Also I am not even the anon you're referring to, try arguing the point next time
>>
>>215937829
I can see that, I guess I just enjoy shows in a more autistic way
>>
>>215937745

>misinterpreting data
There was no misinterpretation.

Here, random threads from /tv/ in 2014 and 2015

https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/54844385/#54844385

https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/54834628/#54834628

https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/54745412/#54745412

You scroll a bit on any of them and they all have "reddit spacing".

There was no advent of "reddit spacing". There was advent of redditors being self conscious about it.

I will always happily point this out anytime someone calls me a reddit spacer. And it's especially pertinent in Pluribus threads. Stop being a sheep.
>>
>>215937797
It is a good show but it's not for everyone and that's ok. And it's also one of the reasons why it's good. If they dumbed it down even 2% it would suck.

No it's real and it's kino. But it can be expensive and they don't carry most mainstream brands. Practically everything is labeled "organic" and is some privately owned obscure indie brand you have never heard of. Upper middle class single white women swear by it. Also every employee looks like a Starbucks barista, no exceptions.
