Anyone else collect horror merch and/or Halloween stuff? I'm getting into it. I'm gonna go to Spirit Christmas some time because they're selling some Christmas horror merch.
>>215943937Especially with the new one which is even more dumbed down. This at least makes the monster complex in seeking his revenge against victor and the world and also gives Frankenstein a reason to chase him down.
>>215941727just finished watching black phone 2. still meh, just like the original. it started off promising, and the soundtrack was decent. not enough violence, stakes weren't high enough. the girl is not a great actor, kind of one note.smile 2 is still the best of the year by a long way.
‘anning on the ‘or/>>215943257This is what I said to the propah authorities too.>>215941683Por moi the holy, unassailable great works are Tenebre, Opera, Crystal Plumage and Suspiria. Phenomena is carried by JCon’s cuteness, I didn’t really like Deep Red when first I saw it so I will need to see again, and Inferno bored me but I love the deep blueness of it in comparison to Suspiria’s redness.
>>215944820That film came out last year, dummy.
>>215944820Agreed. Black Phone 2 was weird. Like it was womanized. The sister replaced the brother, another case of a male protagonist being replaced by a woman. She drove the whole plot and did everything. Nobody died that wasn't already dead before the movie started. Bizarrely fetishized Mexicans and Mexican culture the whole movie.
Is it worth seeing Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein at the theater or would I be as well off on my iPad?
>>215945683If you are bugged by obvious cgi extensions then maybe not. It was shot in scotland so there is some nice photography but i moreso remember the colour tinkering and scale problems. The movie is overwrought and visually excessive. It looks like Crimson Peak so if you like that you will like this. My major problem was the script which hampers itself by trying to make the monster too sympathetic and victor too maniacal.

>>215946527Isn't she a theythem? Apparently that's part of the ring canon.
>>215941815Is this movie any good?
>>215942575The first and last 20 minutes of Inferno are some of Argento's best work, up there with Suspiria.
>>215943641Creepers is just the American cut of Phenomena
>>215945683It isn't worth watching at all imo, and I'm not fussy. Only reasons are if you're a Del Toro completist or like Mia Goth.

>>215943937It has more bite than Del Toro's version. De Niro puts the right kind of spite in the character.
>>215947023The start and end of it is worth suffering through the middle. Suffering through the middle, in hindsight, may be the point of the film.Check it out.
how's 'Match' and 'Meat Kills'?
>>215949688What was the directorial purpose of this?
>>215949942gonna watch Meat Kills today and find out
>>215944768I find it very midwit to oxymoronically equate vindictive murderous revenge with "moral complexity". del Toro's creature has plenty of complexity in the anguish of his alienation, learning of his perverse creation, denial of a companion and animosity to Victor "the miracle is not that I should speak but that you would ever LISTEN"
>>215948957The 2017 one with the deer thing? Yeah I thought it was lame despite a good opening.
>>215950018to out people that were raped such as yourself.
>>215950063I disagree. Its very one sided in the monsters favour. Thats why the redemption at the end doesnt work. Victor doesnt have a moment of lairty, he just gives up and the monster has no crimes to make up for. He walks into the sunset at the end like a chick in a romantic comedy. Complexity is interplay between characters. Without the deaths of Victors loved ones at the monsters hands, he has no real reason to seek his destruction in the way he does. Depending on your interpretation, the monster is a part of himself he denies and tries to destroy. He has only himself to destroy in this version as the monster is basically a background character in his life.
To the anon in the last thread who answered my question about a movie (turned out to be Don't Look Up), thanks!
>>215950495like I said total midwit, you're so close but just foreclose any depth because you're fixated on shit like 'Victor you're the monster' >Without the deaths of Victors loved ones at the monsters hands, he has no real reason to seek his destruction in the way he does. Depending on your interpretation, the monster is a part of himself he denies and tries to destroy. He has only himself to destroy in this version as the monster is basically a background character in his life.like how can you say this and not recognize how the creature is an avatar for all of Victor's failures that he cannot accept due to his vainglorious narcissism and lack of his own mother's love as a child. The creature is his failure as a lover with how Elizabeth fawns over it instead of him, his professional failure as a scientist which doubles with his failure as a son to his father- being his son, it is everything he hates about himself but he refuses to accept it as his son until hearing the creature's personal account. In the reconciliation he finally does so and asks for forgiveness, the creature acquiesces in a moment of grace telling him 'perhaps now we can both be human', he has transcended his fallen state (Paradise Lost motif), found his humanity and will to live despite his tragic circumstances (Prometheus connection), the warm sun on his face delivering him unto salvation. It is complex and beautiful The creature for himself is not the pure of heart angel people want to reduce him too, he struggles with great anguish to understand his being, he indulges in rage murdering many even after being educated in right and wrong from the bible by the Elder and "self-defense" doesn't negate that on it's face let alone when he knows he's immortal which adds a unique wrinkle to this adaptation of his plight and fate.
>>215950495and Elizabeth and William both are killed yes? Whether by the creature indirectly or Victor's hand doesn't matter, they are one in the same as his creation and refusal to take responsibility and accounting of his mistakes. He must forgive the creature it's trespass for his failure to do so
>>215950495>Depending on your interpretation, the monster is a part of himself he denies and tries to destroy. He has only himself to destroy in this version as the monster is basically a background character in his life.baffling dissonance in your head canon
>>215950729yeah and there's another layer of complexity there with God and his son Christ/man with del Toro's own father and lapsed Catholicism
its just a movie nigga
>>215950729>failure as a lover with how Elizabeth fawns over it instead of himFor what reason should she fawn over the monster? Purity in death? Its fetishism. Toro has fetishized the monster at the expense of his creator. Victors failure is mute as the only reason he has to account for them is because he has been beaten down in pursuit. I see no internal struggle in this because the shadow of the monster should have been chasing him before he chase it. I understand the motifs and the religious iconography that Del Toro flirts with. The monster being 'christ' like and rescuing a man from a fallen state. I just dont think it works in this case. Victor has not been set free as he has not fully dealt with his fallen state. The third act is hampered by narrative changes which impact the relationship between the two parties. The monster takes full account of himself by the end of the book because he understands his endeavours have been in vain. This monster kills 2 dozen men and walks into the sunset a free man. Simply because Del Toro has a hard on for the outcast. Its shallow and does take the heights you imply.
>>215950770>He must forgive the creature it's trespass for his failure to do soWhere is the internal struggle and his memories plaguing him? Where is the realisation that should come before a sick man just gives up and gives into shadow?
Vampires are everywhere. Is there any decent /tv/ material to feature a succubus?
who the hell has been reporting all the slightly-nsfw webms? stop being a fag
I can't wait to watch Oz "God" Perkins's KEEPER, bros! I saw Tatiana recently in Ginger Snaps Deux, so I can't wait to see my Canuck wife again.
>>215950729I'm going to have to side more with the other anon just because I think Del Toro's version is too crude in some ways and too subtle in others.Victor is too much of an asshole on a brute personal level (shooting Elizabeth, just being a dick in general) overshadowing the larger questions of morality. I mean, the monster can regenerate flesh and seems immortal, that's a pandoras box Del Toro just throws in there but it gums up the works regarding man and death. It's perhaps the first film where Victor is morally correct to experiment, given the film pushes us to consider all those wounded soldiers on the battlefield. The creatures development is too jumpy. Elizabeth instantly falls for a ghastly corpse freak. He gains literacy and emotional depth instantly (in terms of scenes) by reading books. He acts like a doe eyed fawn to the farmers, then brutally slaughters one without any sign of processing what he's doing other than being a monster-man trope.I just didn't buy it, and more struggling as the other anon said is at least one way to inject more into the character.
I have no idea what people are calling this film "Meat Kills". First off that doesn't make sense. And the translation in the subtitles says "Meat Day" as well.
>>215950908>For what reason should she fawn over the monster? Purity in death?del Toro suffuses their relationship with erotic subtext but thematically it's very clear with the captured butterfly motif, her speech about choice as the seat of the soul and her essentially arranged marriage that she sees a kindred spirit in the creature - loving all God's creatures great and small (bugs). She gives not just love but recognition of his humanity and why she dies saying better to perish with your eyes gazing upon me reciprocating that recognition of her own captivity.agree to disagree on the rest, the creature recounts his tale forcing Victor to recognize and acknowledge him realizing the error of his ways. The softened heart being a condensed story beat doesn't make it less true. The creature also saves all the sailors freeing the boat but still has to endure the bittersweet tragedy of immortal alienation, yes it's a change from the book but it is fitting and moving
>>215951357The capture of the butterfly has always been a sign of the fatality of beauty and errant desire. I think it should have been a 3 part series to achieve a more satisfying story cap. It would have still had narrative problem but perhaps I would have forgiven them a little more. I dont mind different takes, i just dont think the whole movie comes together and the character storylines kind of fizzle rather than pop.
>>215951093>He acts like a doe eyed fawn to the farmers, then brutally slaughters one without any sign of processing what he's doing other than being a monster-man trope.well consider that he just dealt with the wolves who had previously acknowledged killing without hatred as is their nature but is now presented with humans killing out of fear and prejudice, a great injustice in his understanding that reflects Victor's disposition and so he indulges in rage and continues to do so until his own humanity is acknowledged by his creator is he able to find grace and forgiveness freeing him from hatred. I will concede with you and >>215951417 that while it certainly worked and was moving to me that there is a considerable number of people for who it did not and so it is fair to fault the film's execution. I'd agree the script could be improved or expanded for the story it wants to tell. I just disagree with a lot of mischaracterization and understandings floating around or lazy arbitrary critiques and it's not 1:1 with the book shit.
>>>/film/
Evening Fixbros
>>215951606Something I do agree on though is that I thought the ending hit it's stride and both the emotional and philosophical elements were threaded together well. Which is interesting because it was going off-script from the book. The magic of film is if you nail a films ending (which should be the thematic summary of the journey), it becomes a lot easier to absorb it and remember it fondly.
>>215951619I wonder if they let her smoke real weed on set.
>>215951606like I just vehemently reject that premeditated child murder is essential to the character and story or the extent of the novel's brilliance. It seems people really don't understand the critique being made of Victor or the anguish of the creature without it but I ask again how is it morally ambiguous or complex to pursue premeditated malicious revenge? It functions in arousing horror and as a representative manifestation of Victor's horrific action but the core of the creature's plight and pathos to me is still his alienation by perverse horrific birth and circumstance which this film still champions
Got time for one of these tonight what should I watch lads Frankenstein or Nosferatu?

Looking forward to the Swan Song tv series. Only worry is that its going to be too low budget to pull off the huge story unless they focus on the characters which hopefully they do. Mccammons other book was just adapted recently into that show Teacup but they changed everything about it.
Some enjoyable shit I watched recently...Bone Lake (2025)Yummy (2016)Preservation (2014)The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015)Rammbock (2010)
>>215952307Didn't know it was getting a tv series. I hope it's good, but I'm never really hopeful with these adaptations. Also Swansong is probably one of my favorite post-apocalyptic books. Only thing that pissed me off was the ring/crown thing not doing anything in the final battle idk. Mccammon made it seem like it was going to act like a suit of armor or something.>Mccammons other book was just adapted recently into that show Teacup but they changed everything about it.Didn't they also do that with Stinger lol.

>>215952307What kind of asstarded naming choice was that? Was was wrong with Stinger? Also, why that and not They Thirst? Too big a budget for tv?
>>215952307Swan Song is also one of my favorites. Unfortunately I don't think they can do it right given budgetary and time constraints. I'd love to be proven wrong.>>215952470Report back

I watched the new IT: Welcome to Derry show and I'm confused about the timeline cause it's in the 60s but the black kid from the movies is in it and the first one was set in the 80s.
>>215953628 I think it would be easier to adapt Swan Song than it is The Stand. The second half of the book is basically The Road with a horror twist. That hardcover edition is my holy grail btw. I own 4 paperback copies of the novel in fear of it going out of print again. Also would love a series adaption of Speaks the Nightbird but maybe its best left in my imagination
>>215941665this series any good?
>>215952990They turned it into a mystery box show like Lost. Fucked everything up including the title which means nothing (like the show). They Thirst was a disappointment to me; probably my least favourite Mccammon book ive read so far.
>>215953757It's kino yeah if you're into found footage. I'd start by watching Noroi and Occult and if you like that, it's like a ghost hunting documentary show with a similar feel.

>>215952307>>215952438>>215953043>>215953628>>215953701I'm happy people are talking about Swan Song. Current Year adaptations have turned me into a doomer though, I don't want it to be woke nonsense. The funny thing is they have a built-in excuse for casting her guardian to be a hulking black guy like they always do, but for fuck's sake Swan NEEDS to be a cute lovable innocent white girl that stays pure till the end and not some wisecracking mutt that hooks up with some other wisecracking mutt.

>>215951023I just left the theater and really liked it. /tv/ won't, they're gonna call it feminist. Normies won't, it's too artsy and vague but ultimately has a goofy premise. It's NOT Trauma Horror, though, if you can get past the vague style it's a pretty straightforward monster movie.

>>215954313The film is kino but I wished the CGI was better. You should be watching the black and white one, I hear the CGI works more.
>>215954280>Stop being fucking retardedIt's all a guessing game
>>215954394Fucking wish I had food stamps. I got like 20 bucks til next Thursday>>215954418I’ve never been watching a post 50s movie and thought to myself “this would be better in black and white” but I can at least imagine how it would indeed help with the CGI
>>215954458Shut up man. You spend like 500 a week on food.
Tonight, I will be watching Zombie.>>215954418The B&W version is superior. It hides some of the obvious CGI, plus it makes it feel more like an episode of the Twilight Zone.
>>215954458>he's not rice, pasta, and beans maxingDo you even poverty?
>>215954531Look at this snack shelf and tell me I’m not /pov/, did you ever see the types of spreads I would parade here in the golden days?Sealed copy of District 9 to keep it horror
>>215954486rewatching Zombi, I paid more attention at the slow parts and reassessed it as kino.
Watching a VHS rip of Street Trash and it's excellent.I've been wanting to check out the last drive in. What's folks favourite episode?
>>215954591My god, you're going to have to eat plain Ritz crackers soon. May as well start boiling your belt and eat that.
>>215954591*Pinhead voice* I remember…
>>215954283>>215954310Can't go five minutes without /tv/ proving me right about shit.
>>215954591Learn to poverty max like I said. You end up with extremely low cost per serving food. Throw in chicken or canned tuna if you need a protein.
>>215954647>the uber eats guy wondering where the fuck he is
>>215954596I love the soundtrack with it's hypnotic drumming and synths.
I'm considering cabin maxxing but I like being able to walk to the store
>>215954647Gods I was strong then>>215954675My version of poverty maxxxxing if I had to go down that route would be just ordering and freezing a bunch of #2 from this four horseman collage I did of Taco Bell’s best value eats
>>215946527I played through F.E.A.R again last October. That game still holds up and is still creepy as hell. Superb atmosphere and sound design.
>>215954723These days you don't need to even walk, you can buy an electric bike since those go up to 28MPH. Sadly, it'll probably get stolen as soon as you go into the store.
>>215954723after watching The Fog the other day, I want to live in a lighthouse.

>>215954693kek
did anyone end up going to see the WNBA Predator?
>>215954759The soundtrack is also great and helps the game out tremendously. Also the beginning of extraction point was kino. Imagine being a civilian and seeing all these freaky soldiers just standing still everywhere on the street like puppets
Don't believe the hype, this was a very straight forward horror film. Lots of thrillery people elements to it, most of it stupid. Like Tubi slop with a higher budget. There was one pretty sick scene of violence which that was cool.
>>215954989No and that's why it's flopping.
>no subtitles for Homecam (2025)The wait continues
Give me some comfy /hor/ made in the last decade
>>215954313Still on this frame, but finally resuming kino

>>215955636Saw both of these already...I probably saw everything already
>>215955636
>>215955532I dont know about the last decade but we need a comfy list. I would say the best comfy horror is Picnic at Hanging Rock. Phantasm is another.

Waiting for English subtitles
>>215946527>>215941665>>215943711Whats up with japanese and little girls and ghosts? Here in the West we deal with real shit like werewolves, vampires, alimony, etc.
>>215956720Making the ghost in The Ring a little girl was a change for the American remake. She's older in the Japanese movies.
>>215956778Wasn't she also a hermaphrodite?
>>215955532FrogmanKrampusBlood FestCobweb
>>215956842In the books and the original 1995 movie. The 1998 movie (which the American one is a remake of) also skips over the hermaphrodite stuff.
>>215956720Most of them came out around the same period and represented a huge surge in interest in Japanese horror. Makes economic sense to pump them out when you're the only place where japanese ghost girls exist.Although, Shutter is one of the best and that's a Thai film.

>>215957277I watched the poop festival video and it was horrifying when at the very beginning one of the indians starts eating shit. The festival hadn't even started yet.
Finished Day of the Dead. Wasn't expecting a semi-sentient zombie shooting guns kek. Overall I'd rank the series Night>Dawn>Day but I liked all of them. The special effects/gore in Dawn and Day are surprisingly great.
>>215957318Pissjeet doxxed himself? No way!

>>215957772We don’t call them animals anymore.
>>215957842I do not understand?
>>215956006I'm assuming they intended it like "meat is murder".
>>215953772I've only read those two so far but I felt the same way about Stinger. The cover might've sold it a little different than I was expecting though. Also it's kind of The Hidden in reverse, which was a letdown for me All in all though I thought it would've worked well as a movie.
>>215957876Okay, it is like this. When my wife and I go watch movies, we bring her boyfriend who is called the bull.
Yeah the ending of The Mist is still a complete fucking downerGood movie still, but damn it’s almost comical

>>215958303>toby jones gets killed>everything goes to shit turbo speed
>>215954989I just got back from the theater from seeing it. It is extremely a 'Disney approved' Predator movie. It feels like it isn't trying to be about a hunt, but about an adventure to find a MaGuffin or some just some object. A world that feels less lived in and more like it's plucked out of Half-Life: Alyx playthroughs trying to be a new setting for the franchise -- a franchise that very much doesn't want to be Predator. Quippy partners, a fucking Porg companion, play by numbers plotline. The only positives I had with it are that they kept Dek as the straight man for the comedy and the Weyland-Utani crossover was done in a way that doesn't make me groan or feel forced like most modern crossovers are. A very 5/10 movie. Didn't fucking help that some literal trenchcoat wearing fat guy and a ponytail having older fedora lord didn't have an indoor voice two rows behind me.
>>215958693Grim. You went to see it in theaters. Cucked move.
>>215958736silence, pissjeet
>>215958693Did you actually go to the theater for this?
>>215958693Good rundown. The trailer had that Disney capeshit look about the whole thing.Maybe M3GAN and this failing will teach them to keep the horror element.
>>215957791Cheeky.
>>215958693Expected. Thanks for taking one for the team lol. Did you at least have some nice snacks
>>215958693Movie was piss poor. I took my wife’s half black kids to it and they fell asleep.
>>215958736>>215958840Me and my dad go to the theater and I let him pick the movies because he likes the movies.>>215958848>>215958916You actually just put it in my head but it's like a shitty episode of The Mandolorian. You'd expect this kind of banter from the people getting hunted before they get serious and freaked out, but it's just constant.>Did you at least get some nice snacksThere is no greater snack than popcorn (except for peanut M&Ms but not tonight.)
For the love of god, PLEASE make the next edition 80s themed.
