The weirdest part of Star Trek is that the spaceships have wall to wall carpeting
>>215992878Why is that weird? I lived in a place where the bathroom was carpeted, that was weird
>>215992878The 1980s were a fashion home decor cluster fuck.
>>215992878But they fall down a lot because of attacks and shit so better to have some padding
>>215992899Yeah I've seen some crazy shit like that in wacky zillow listings before. I don't hate carpet but that's one place you DON'T fucking put carpet.
>>215992878Think they have a janitor vacuum the rugs all the time or do they have a futuristic self cleaning rug ?
>>215992878What's wrong with carpet?>it's hard to clean! It's the year 2500 or some shit like that, they have better cleaning systems. So why not have carpet?
>>215992901Seventies were worse. Avocado green fixtures, shag carpeting, fake wood paneling. I don’t get it, the weed wasn’t even that good back then
>>215992934why don't they wear seatbelts
>>215992878The weirdest part of Star Trek was that it had a captain (among other essential crew) who would leave his post to do undercover investigative work. Whole show makes no fucking sense.
>>215992878If you have to spend years inside a spaceship you would want it to be as comfortable as possible
>>215992899I grew up with carpeted bathrooms. It was fine. Just don't piss on the floor.Still, rugs make more sense.
>>215992969It was many years ago and the place had be reno’ed from a mansion of sorts into suites by incompetents. The one advantage was that when I would binge drink I could comfortably pass out inches from the toilet, but it’s still pretty gross
>>215992981It really is strange, for a decade which gave us so many kinos and banger music, the day to day appliances and cars and whatever were abysmal dogshit
Commercial airliners have wall to wall carpeting, as do cruise ships.
>>215992981You're just not white.
>>215992981My parents still have a blender that I think is from the 70s that has that ugly yellow of the era and yet thing still works fine. May look like shit but they sure still made long lasting quality products then.
>>215992878Do you expect muddy shoes on a starship?
>>215992878Form doesn't follow function anymore in 2400ad. Even in Kirk's days they could decorate their ships the way they wanted.
>>215993010Generally Picard stayed on the ship and Riker did the away missions.
>>215993010It makes a bit more sense when you realise it's Hornblower in space, the officers were basically the only literate people on board back then
>>215992969Now this is KINO
>>215992878It's for echo dampening.
>>215992969>carpeted bathtubReal Scarface vibes
>>215993008That's what the inertial dampeners are for. But they go on the fritz all the time.
>>215993085But does it connect to the internet and contain spyware ?
>>215992878It wasn’t really a carpet but a genetically engineered moss-type of plant that ate dirt and dead skin cells
>>215993022The enterprise was also specifically designed for comfort. It was the big ship you sent on diplomatic missions and to show off in front of the other races. They had other ships that were more stark.
>>215992981>avocado green fixtureshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejwoUeKhFn4
>>215992878Wall to wall carpeting is pretty comfy if it's kept clean, and I'm sure they had the technology to do so
>>215993231This amused me thanks.
>>215993371Damn this woman is fine
>>215992901wait until you see the soulless grey industrial trend of RIGHT NOW
>>215993038outside of some decent music and movies, the 70s were the absolute worst, bleakest decade in american history after the 30s. its all serial killers, suicide cults, a shit economy, and disco. oh and based nixon getting ousted for being based
>>215992878this is the comfiest bridge in all of sci fi. it reminds me of when my dad lived with his friend for a while after the divorce.
>>215993285okay but now retcon the jetsons with modern day sci fi tropes
>>215994597Trvke
>>215992878Just be glad it's not the USS Bangladesh, imagine the floor covering on that.
>>215994597>Nixon >Sabotaged Vietnam peace talks which kept the war going another 7(?) years>Him and his buddy Kissinger opened the US up to China leading to all of the China-related ailments we deal with todayYeah he was real based, anon
>>215992878Nowadays everything is a wooden floor. Like we're back in the middle ages!
>>215992969The pairing orange-brown is definitely the signature of the 70's, I've visited a lot of houses for sale that had it. (that orange bidet, VGH)That said the worst decade in terms of visual rape is by far the 50's, boomers are dying lately and you can find some gems on real estate websites.
>>215995001I hate hard floors. They're cold, uncomfortable, and you feel every speck of dust you step on. You also get a lot of echo with flat surfaces. That's why people used to do the popcorn ceiling thing. Another thing that seems to be falling out of favor.
I'm really sad that we're not moving toward a future modeled on star trek ;_;
>>215992878The TNG Enterprise always looked like the interior of a hotel or a call center office to me.
>>215995399It was the style at the time.
>>215994890>those poor gooks!shut up faggot
>>215992878Very comfy>>215992899>Carpeted bathroomsWas normal when I was a kid
>>215992975the episode where theres the irish people and then the other computer clone people and the crew have to get them to fuck, i think its called up the ladder or something.theres a beautiful young lady riker is tryin gto fuck, she's picking up straw in a cargo bay and riker tells her to leave it, the ship cleans itself. then she replies good for the bloody ship.which seems to be completely at odds with what i know about lower decks (nothing) (the series, not the episode)
>>215992899Checked. I had a friend whose parents had a carpeted kitchen. I didn't think it was weird as a kid.
>>215995912Lower decks is a parody, it doesn't need to make sense.
>>215992878they never went outside, so all of them wore indoor shoes
>>215995976Okay, that's just stupid. Carpeted bathrooms are alright as long as you aren't pissing on the floor, but there will ALWAYS be messes in the kitchen. It's unavoidable.
>>215992878do you think they transport the poop directly out of their colon so they don't have to shit?
>>215996207They'd probably transport your organs out by accident. But I bet they could replicate nutrition perfect food that gets perfectly absorbed by the body with no waste.
>>215995213Sure we are, we're just a little behind schedule so World War III might not start quite as soon as next year
>>215993868She's more than fine, she's super!
>>215994731"Captains log" just got a new meaning
>>215992878also, why are there no seatbelts? why do they never wear any PPE when they go into red alert?
>>215992878The Galaxy class was the Feddies flexing on other powers. We can make a huge opulent cruiseliner and still kick your """" battlecruiser"""" ass.
>>215992969imagine taking a bath with your bro (not gay) then gooning, then just rolling on the floor to dry yourself.
>>215992878>>215993008Same reason why they don't wear uniforms that can serve as space suits in emergencies. Humanity has figured out that it is more important to be comfy than anything else.
>>215992878My staircase had a carpeted wall it was kino
>>215992878It makes sense. If you're in space every noise you make is going to carry through the structure of the floors really easily, so having carpet just to dampen the sound is reason enough. Practically it is a similar concern for filming, you don't want heel-clicks forcing you to do some ADR later or god forbid another take.
>>215997962>why are there no seatbelts?Because inertial dampeners do the hard word, and if those fail then you're de-natured protein jelly on the far wall.
>>215999144>more important to be comfy than anything else. The thing is all of the cast HATED the jumpsuits of the first few seasons. They were a big reason why then the uniform was re-vamped they made it a two-piece for most of the cast.
>>215999529You can tell because of how often they're adjusting the uniform while standing up or whatever.
>>215999012>just rolling on the floor to dry yourself.Underrated
>>215992878Is there dirt in space?
>>216000949Literally everything is in space.
>>215992878Every so often they stop at a starbase and shoot a cleaning beam at the ship to clean all the carpets.
>>215992878Have you not watched the series? Every time their ship gets fired upon they get bumped backwards and all over the place. Since they have no seatbelts, it would make sense to carpet every surface for safety (and aesthetic) purposes.
>>216001235Yes synthetic fibers and exploding consoles that routinely catch fire is surely a good mix in a vacuum sealed metal box.
>>215992969Towels are just mobile carpets and no-one has a problem with them in a bathroom
>>216001319You can wash towels easily though
>>216001300They're fancy fireproof fibers. Like Asbestos, but without the cancer.
>>215992969moldkino
its the future. every room should have grass growing on the floor. a little roomba robot would be sure to keep things short and to water it
The modern belief that everyone should live in a sheer white room with hard floors like the fucking dystopian prison from THX 1138 is a sign of how stupid the world has gotten.
>>215993128>>215993010Yeah eventually it bothered Patrick Stewart so much that he demanded more episodes where Picard got into fights.
>>215995892>only gooks died in vietnam warKen...get the vhs. Time to school an anon
>>215992878
>>215993371you just KNOW she was taking some big-ass dumps in 1972
>>215994601>lived with his friendSo your dad's a fudgepacker
>>216002050Enjoy your feces infested carpet then, retard.
>>215994601>when my dad lived with his "friend" for a whileur dad is a homo. sorry to be the one to break it to you. he was sucking cocks and getting cum and being fucked in the ass and drinking weiner-juice
>>215993010You know, perhaps it's sinful bringing up another shower, but battlestar galactica was extremely good there. Fascinating to think about, really. There are literally just a handful of times Adama left his ship, and every one of them was extremely justified. Obviously the real thing is that star trek captains are kinda playing double duty as ambassadors/diplomats most of the time and imo there's some undertones of prestige/glory-seeking, compared to something like BSG obviously being a lot more apocalyptic where the stakes are higher. Still, idk, u got my brain spinning on captains constantly leaving the ship in trek even in situations where battle could be likely.
>>215993010They're captains like Magellan and Columbus rather than a modern navy captain
>>216002302You really can't have carpet anywhere its possible someone could be sweating. Let alone all the blood the bridge would have in the carpet over the years. Or they'd have someone cutting and replacing squares on a weekly basis. For the flagship, I'd bet my ass they'd put some naval wood throughout the bridge for muh tradition.
>>216002179>not the poor niggers!
>>215999144Personally I always like the TOS movie era uniforms, and Enterprise. The TOS movies (minus the cruise direct TMP) looked reminiscent of old naval uniforms from the age of sail. They looked like they would survive in just about any climate, while looking /fa/ as fuck, and functional. The enterprise uniform was just the jumpsuit, but at least it had fucking pockets. Why does starfleet hate pockets? I mean I know its the future, and you can replicate anything you need, or just have it hang awkwardly on your utility belt... But what the fuck do people do when they're standing in line?
>>216002443>and imo there's some undertones of prestige/glory-seekingIsn't that why most people go into Starfleet, especially the command branch? There's no salary, no mandatory service, no innate sense of need to serve the "nation" - so the only people who'd join Starfleet are the type of people who want to carve their name into history.Which kinda sucks when you remember some captains are just stuck patrolling Federation space and playing transport.
>>215992878Carpets are basically large air filters. Not to mention good acoustics.
>>215992878that's why you can't eat on the bridge
>>216002399Stop shitting on the floor, Mandeep.
>>216002876>Personally I always like the TOS movie era uniforms, and Enterprise. The TOS movies (minus the cruise direct TMP) looked reminiscent of old naval uniforms from the age of sail. They looked like they would survive in just about any climate, while looking /fa/ as fuck, and functional. Roddenberry hated the red TOS movie uniforms precisely because it looked too militaristic. He wasn't in charge of the movies. He also hated pockets which is why there weren't any until well after he was dead.
>>215992969imagine the mildew smell
>>215996207Also the red shirts have group masturbation sessions on the lower decks.
I never watched Star Trek, not any of it and I'm almost in my 40s. When I was young I always associated Star Trek with creepy old trekkie men that gave off pedo vibes, especially since one of my middle school teachers who was a trekkie and would wear a trek costume for halloween was eventually outed as a child molester when I was in high school. I was always a Star Wars / Stargate / Farscape / Battlestar fan, never star trek.
>>216002527They have the replicators de-replicate the blood in the carpet
>>216004112>hated pocketsPockets are wonderful inventions though, for all kinds of things. You don't need to have a wallet, or currency to make having pockets useful. Like imagine you're holding something in your hands, and you're walking, and suddenly you need to use your hands for something. If only you had some kind of pouches ergonomically built into your uniform so you could hold more than two things. And I didn't see the red uniforms as militaristic as exploratory. Plenty of captains and admirals of his/her majesty's royal navy were great explorers of the age.
>>216004216Your loss.
>>215992878on a crt you couldn't even tell it was carpet. it just looked like a colored floor.
>>216004279Why are you talking to me? Tell that to Roddenberry's ghost.
>>216004224More likely they would use sonic carpet cleaners.
>>216004319I need you for the seance.
>>216004329Can you make him admit to raping Yeoman Rand's actress?
>>215995177You are supposed to clean them you filthy fuck.
>>215995177Slipper master race. Also required for carpet since your feet have oils that ruin them
>>215996128>Get the flu>accidentally get barf on the floor>Get drunk>accidentally piss and barf on the floor>invite over neighbor kid>he pisses all over the floorYour carpet was disgusting and you just didn't think about it.
>>215995177Get a rug you fucking weirdo
Hard Floortards are just revealing themselves as filthy animals by admitting they never clean their floors, or indeed bother to not track literal feces everywhere in their house in the first place.
>>215992878They can call anything out of thin air. There's probably a ship-wide laser that prints carpets on the floor continually.
Captains prerogative bitch
>>215993056This.It’s much fucking better that the modern polished concrete meme. My new office has this. It really it just means they were too lazy to finish the floors.I wonder if they realize how much of a fucking slip hazard this shit is if you drop 5 drops of any liquid on it it becomes a slip and slide, and if you hit your head on it at the right angle it’s easy enough to die.I can’t stress enough how much of a stupid choice this is for a public space that doesn’t need it for practical reasons (like a factory or something). And it is fucking everywhere now.>>215993085Right before the era of planned obsolescence, that stuff was industrial. Modren slave culture is so anti human.>>215993099Yeah, it’s sort of silly they show cleaners sometimes, when that could just be beamed away or romba
>>215993231Hehe
>>215993330Lololo
>>215992878No wonder all their doors open automatically. The static buildups must have been shocking
>>215992878All recessed indirect lighting too.Btw how often did they have to film scenes twice to get the viewscreen from behind them shot?
>>215993025you don't want rugs in space, if you lose gravity you don't want it coming off the deckmeanwhile wall to wall carpeting is there to stay
>>216002399>doesn't know about roombasbleak
>>216005504Actully they have Bajoran slaves in the walls to move the doors.Much cheaper.Of course the enlightened federation doesn’t call them slaves, but they only get enough wages to subsist, at least slaves get free food. Also they are beamed into their work positions and have to work 16 hour days trapped between the walls.
>>215992878>10 trillion dollar state of the art intergalactic space ship>doesn’t have semen extraction stations I’d send it back to the dealer
>>216005336>walking along corridor>polished starship floor>man wearing dress walks past>look down>hairy junk on displayAnd that's why they didn't go in that direction.
>>216006060What do you think the holodecks are?
>>216005664No wonder the Federation was so keen on getting Bajor to join. They wouldn't have to deal in black market gold pressed latinum anymore to pay wages and just have them queue up for replicator rations like every other federation citizen
>>216006060why do you think they keep Troi around?
>>216006098do you reckon they beamed the cum into space or the holodecks needed jizz moppers?
>>216006331It's Barclay's job to regularly clean the jizz filters of the holodecks
>>216006345ahh jizz filters, of course.
>>215992878It is called Cozy.
>>215992878>wall to wall
>>215992878Only in the post-Kirk shows. For TNG, Gene wanted the ship to feel like home. It is sad that they never used the replicators on the Ent-D's bridge, given all the times that they were handing out cups of coffee in TOS.
>>215992878It's comfy. The Enterprise is an exploration and diplomatic vessel of peace. A place for families.Any concerns about dirt, allergies, dust, etc are handwaved as solved by technology in the 24th century.
>>215992878I'm not reading the thread to see if it's already been said but it's largely to keep the sound guy and the editor for an heroing. In the show you mostly forget it's a carpet. It's only distracting if you decide to ignore the story and acting.
>>215996340What fucking good is a short barrel shotgun on the balcony of a building?
>>215999144>Dah-ta
>>215992969Doesnt this shit start to smell?
>>215992878They put so much energy and voltage through the deck, it just sets it on fire and throws the crew around with a disruption.
>>215992981I for one enjoy the nature vomit aesthetic.
>>215992878It was supposed to make it look more livable for families.
>>215992878The weirdest part of Star Trek is that anybody watches it.
>>215992878I would have designed it to have exposed brick and wood paneling.Id have some hanging spider plants to liven the place up a bit.
>>216005336>I can’t stress enough how much of a stupid choice this is for a public space that doesn’t need it for practical reasonsIt's required for hand trucks and forklifts. Which get used in those stores at the end of every shift for inventory restock. The only thing you can put over it is linoleum or area rugs.
>>215994601I bet pretty much all dads wish they could be roommates with their buddies again, being responsible is a pain.
>>215992901>>215992878I don't know why wall-to-wall carpeting ever became popular in the first place. For one, it's simply unsanitary because of how difficult it is to clean compared to bare floors. with an area rug you can at least move it, clean it, clean spills that seep through to the floor below, easily replace it if necessary, etc. And it's not even just a matter of home builders cheapening out. The house I grew up in was built in the 60s. It originally had wall-to-wall carpeting covering every inch of the house except the bathrooms, kitchen, and dining room. When I was a kid, my parents decided to rip it all out. Underneath the carpeting, the entire house has beautiful hardwood flooring everywhere, from foyer to bedrooms. Of course, in more modern homes with wall-to-wall carpeting, they use it as an excuse to not bother with proper floors underneath, instead just having subflooring, but this development happened AFTER carpeting became popular, and builders realized it would be a waste to install nice wood floors if they're just going to get permanently covered up anyway.
