>This is my close and trusted advisor Evil Lyingsnake>He came highly recommended by our mutual friend Sauronman
>>216004995Who were his references?
Robert Howard mogs Tolkien. Conan mogs Aragorn.
>>216004995>That guy over there in the corner smoking weed...>Yea, the one that hasn't bathed in weeks and smells like horseshit...>They call him Strider...>He's the king of all humankind...
>>216005154Robert Howard is not a very good writer and you get the distinct impression from his work that he wants conan to fuck him
>>216004995>just give the orcs what they wants. It’ll be the new War of Wrath otherwise. You’re not a warmonger are you?
>>216005185It's funny Aragorn is all broody, mysterious and aura farming in this one scene but just a normal guy afterwards
>>216005201You are low t and also illiterate.
>>216005154it doesn't have to be a contest. if i want high-flying, ruthless action in exotic, smokey, grimy realms, i'll read REM's stuff. if i want something more restrained yet grander and more verdant, it's tolkien-time
ve noticed that people who dislike Howard, or underwrite his ability, like S.T. Joshi (a teacher who's publishing accolades revolves exclusively around commenting on other people's works), and hacks like Stephen King (Who appeal to the lowest common denominator in their face-value approach to genre fiction), they all seem to harbor a resentment for his empowerment fantasy. Which is basically what Conan is. The purest, rawest formation of power fantasy, but delivered in such a way that it is not meant to simply satisfy a base urge, but to empower you to do better yourself, by offering philosophy and depth beyond merely hack and slashing. Conan is a series of stories about the triumph of the will to succeed. He was also similar to Tolkien in his world-building before such a thing was common. I would say he had better prose than Tolkien overall, far more artistry in his words than the very unceremonious and terse prose that Tolkien used. While I wouldn't say he would have been more widely exalted as Tolkien, I do think he would have been more widely known, and certainly more highly regarded than the mixed opinion of him that exists today. We could see his style maturing with Hour of the Dragon, and I'm sure had he lived another 30 or 40 years, we would have seen classics in the genre that far exceed a lot of the lesser figures. And a part of me wishes that he did, instead of having GRRM taking up space in the fantasy genre with his dogshit writing.
yeah, something like this has definitely never happened in real life

>>216005442Rasputin was a based Christian holy man who did his best to protect the Czar and his family from godless communists and curedvAlexei's hemophilia. He is more like Gandalf the Grey than he is Grima Wormtongue.
RIP you based champion of Christendom
>>216005570He was a foul unwashed grifter who was committing adultery with the czars wife. He most assuredly burns in the pit. Holy man indeed
Watched the cartoon that just came out, turns out girls are the real heroes and you should feel bad for being boy.
>>216005570>drunken rapist literally denounced by the orthodox church sure thing bud
>>216005607>was committing adultery with the czars wife.Literally bolshevik propaganda
>>216005442>Rasputin translates to - the debauched oneWtf?
>>216005201Robert E Howard is a far better writer. I’ll read LotR when I want to fall asleep.
>>216006302Debauchery doesn't mean he's untrustworthy. It just means he's fun at parties.
>>216004995>And then we'll name the mad scientist who does bizarre, fucked up experiments on the prisoners "Doctor Mangler"
>LET THE LARD OF THE BLACK LAND CAM FARTH
>>216004995>sauronman>this is hitler and his right hand man himmlerfor all the fun people can make about lord of the rings... evil really is that simplistic in real life as well in fact the modern depiction of evil in hollywood movies of "just misunderstood evil" is kinda the fantasy
