I want to believe, but the fact is - other than Cigarette Burns (not even a full-length feature film), John Carpenter hasn't made anything truly great in the new millennium. Vampires was the death-knell for him and there's really no coming back.

>you'll hate me for saying that, but you know it to be true
>>
He should just stay retired. Absolutely don't need another remake.
>>
>>216006712
Is this just the asian remake?
>>
>>216006775
No It's an American remake of the Japanese Film/Novel
>>
>>216006712
No Sydney Sweeney so its gonna suck most likely
>>
>>216006712
What made Br good was that:
It was a first of its kind
It was shocking (for the time)
It was fresh
The book was well written
The movie had Kitano and was very Japanese and very novel for what it was and where it was made
No one fucking cares about an American version of a movie and genre that’s been done to death since
>>
>>216006712
>one of the rare few creative directors we still have left
>doing a fucking remake
enough of this

end hollywood if this is all we get now. it's not worth saving
>>
>>216006712
Not a real project. Now fuck off.
>>
>>216006712
These death hoaxes are so out of control that I thought both carpenter and englund were dead. Both are still alive.
>>
>>216006745
I agree. Still cautiously optimistic though.
>>
>>216006712
Is this "timely" cos "drumpf is gonna send us into war", but let's deny Hollywood was cheerleading Buyden for sending USD + weapons to YouCrane + IsNotReal? The pathetic thing is Fukusaku made it to warn the younger gen not to go into war after seeing what it did to HIS GENERATION that didn't come back (or led to the bomb, obviously.) But JC + Hollywood are NEVER anti-war in USG's endless wars, unless they get to "warn about drumpf". Hilary leading NATO to invade Libya was OK to Hollywood!

You must not know Thomasin mcboobsie
>>
>dictator
Americans always need to personalize things. In the original it was an impersonal system, now it's the bad guy and if we kill him all is well.
>>
>>216007174
The Thing was a remake. Village of the Damned was a remake. Carpenter has done them in the past.
>>
Tarantino must be jizzing his pants right now.
>>
>>216006712
Isn't this just a Hunger Games ripoff?
>>

for me it's The Condemned

The OG is still the greatest "death game" movie or series ever made, why even try to make it better?
>>
>>216007388
>The Thing was a remake
It was an adaptation of a short story just like this is an adaptation of a book.
>>
>>216006849
CUTE

>Vampires was the death-knell for him
Surely it was Escape From LA, which came out before Vampires.
>>
>>216007700
>STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN
>THE VINNIE JONES

>Reading through the cast and think, "Damn, no Kurt Russell."
>Reach the end.
:)

I hope you're a girl.
>>
>>216008157
The very first cast member mentioned is Kurt Russel, you goober
>>
The adaptation angle doesn't matter in the slightest, as Battle Royale is a generic term now. So it has a high chance of being good just by nature of the automatic tension and drama that the formula provides.

However you know Hollywood loves to subvert things and make them gay. They'll find a way to get away from the rules of the setup and instead make it about capitalism and trump or something.

You really think Battle Royal wasn’t doing political commentary about topical issues in Japan?
>>

>will it flop
A very tiny amount of Carpenters films were box office successes, it's surprising how he got to get his movies financed given the track record of the box office of his movies.
So ye, it will probably flop, but that's what you expect with him in the directors chair. Will probably be a massive hit on streaming tho.

The original Battle Royale manga had a ton of sex and nudity in it, due to one character being sex appeal and using her body as a means to seduce and murder them to acquire wealth and status. One part she takes a nerds virginity and slices his throat, while getting him to cum in the middle of his death spasms.
>>
Sabrina Carpenter as the perky instructional video chick is a fun choice at least.
>>
>>216008194
I don't know how I glossed over that.
>>
>>216006712
Can't find a single news about it
>>
>>216008819
Because it's fake news.
>>
>>216006712
I haven't found any hint suggesting Carpenter's doing a battle royale remake.
Anyone's got a link to a serious article talking about it?
>>
>>216006712
Well, I hope it's a hit and wish nothing but the best for John and his endeavors.
