>>216010153>Is he actually talented or just incredibly lucky?most very successful people are both.
>>216010153He's talented and would've made it as a comic strip guy but his shows are 100% the doing of even more talented people.
Talented enough but its mostly other people who made the Simpsons great
>>216010153His version of the Simpsons wasn't funny at all, so I'd say lucky
>>216010153He's like David Chase of The Sopranos: Had some cool ideas and then had elite writers carry him for the seasons. His shitty fantasy netflix cartoon (whatever it's called) exposed him as a hack. Same thing happened with David Chase when he solo wrote a Sopranos movie.
>>216010153Like this >>216010616 saidAnd I used to think he was a bigger hack but I've been listening to a lot of Simpsons episode commentaries recently and made me realize he is/was necessary for the show.Everyone pushed for retarded crazy scripts and more cartoony behavior for the characters but Matt was always against that, and every writer was aware of it (even though they managed to get away with crazy stuff). He made everyone aware about some rules, vibe and character behavior that the show shouldn't deviate from. And he pitched some good plots like who shot mr burns. It feels like by season 7 everyone knew how the show was supposed to be and could go on auto-pilot, he didn't do much besides giving some notes here and there, but his presence itself helped the show to stay more grounded.>tl;dr:lucky as fuck, not extremely talented but far from retarded.
Not luck. Life in Hell adaptation would have also been a hit. His style of humor was a perfect fit for late 80s/early 90s
>>216010616>ignores Futurama
Rocks
>>216010369>LOOK MOMMY I POSTED AGAIN!Kill yourself faggot.
>>216010153>>216010369Do us all a favor and just execute yourself alreadyWhen the FUCK is the spammer going to get dealt with? The shit he spams daily:-"m*torcycle cl*b aka MC content"-screenshots of simpsons/family guy with his trigger phrases mspainted in-jigs*w/saw movies (JigC)<Note, hes obsessed with the "MC" threads and saw movieis, hence calling him JigC, along with AI images of jigs*w on a motorcycle)-Obsession with hiding his filenames with a similar schema above (HomeR, ChapE, like "JigC")-"bask*n r*berts", a corruption of the ice-cream chain name. (constantly uses "erts" as a prefix)-obsession with "tr*st f*nd b*nd", and calling people "fundies" (?)-telling people to "cram"-calling people "poofter"-spamming yolandi/die antwoord/chappieits gotten really fucking tiresome watching him post dozens of threads every day.
>>216010153I think a lot of creators get lucky when they score a team of good writers to make the show great. Simpsons is really quite a generic family sitcom but animated. It's the writing that made it a mega hit.
>>216010616David Chase wrote and directed many of the best Sopranos episodes across the entire show, Groening has a couple of co-writing credits in season 1 and then nothing else.
i think the key is he surrounded himself with great writers.for both the simpsons and futurama, the quality of the episodes was always connected to the talent of the writers in the room.for whatever reason, groening had an ability to find greater writers, and great voice actors too for that matter.for whatever reason, also, he seems to have lost that ability pretty significantly in the past 10 years or so.
>>216010153Jeffrey Epstein gave Matt Groening the original fundssss for his now trusted band show.
>>216010153Simpsons was fine for the first seasons when it was a mixture of wholesome and funny, then the writing staff became composed of retarded cynical millenials who appropriately flanderized the entire cast and purposefully avoided happy endings and fun storiesFuturama from the start was shit, literally the entire show is just about "Fry is a retard, Leela is a badass stronk woman, Amy is a ditz and everyone else is either rude or clueless" and all the episodes were the writing staff sniffing their own farts about how they were so smart because they made some math gag or parodied Back to the Future or whateverIt's basically the precursor to shit like Rick & Morty, only ledditards who spend all day strawmanning religion and talking about muh Schezuan Sauce care about Futurama
>>216010153Futurama is much better than the Simpsons, it feels more like a comic-book. The best part about the Simpsons is that it had tons and tons of side characters that 'just work', but Futurama's main cast is so good it didn't need that many. If Futurama ended on Season 4, it would be revered but they zombified it all the same, Game of Tones and the Late Late Philip J. Fry could've been original series episodes though.
>>216013567>>216013568The duality of anon
He made The Simpsons. That counts for something, right?
>>216013491>for whatever reason, groening had an ability to find greater writersI'm gonna give James L Brooks the credit for that, the guy was a huge name at the time, with a Best Picture Oscar under his belt and multiple nominations. Dude created The Mary Tyler Moore show. He could probably get any writer in Hollywood he wanted.
