It's really a joke at this point playing dramatic pop song remixes in trailers. Also, I'm embarrased I didn' catch the lame quippy dialogue came from the same literary genius behind The Martian sooner.

there is. He's not a random teacher. He used to be scientist who wrote a paper that relates to this stuff. He's basically the most qualified person
>>
>>216015647
To be fair, in the book he wasn't the first choice. He only got chosen because both of his replacements blew themselves up by accident.
Not to mention Rocky was helping too and is probably just as instrumental in saving earth.
>>
>>216013557

The paper he wrote was basically an elaborate shitpost. Again, I can suspend my disbelief that she wanted specifically him due to this paper. I can even suspend my disbelief enough to believe that he also had that coma resistance gene.
But every country working together? While completely sidelining economic interests and copyright? Come on man

>>
>>216015523
E.T. appears before Elliot in that movie, at the very start, and is always positioned as a protagonist.
this movie is very obviously structured around a first act that puts Ryan in space and he only meets Rocky after that.

what this sacrifices is any mystery as to how well First Contact will go, or if aliens are even in the film let alone whether they're hostile. also it outs the movie as pretty light in tone, which means we basically go into the film reassured that Earth will be fine.

might have been interesting to let us find out some of that stuff in the cinema is all I'm saying.

The ginger woman is basically given absolute authority to do whatever it takes. There's no democracy to overcome, any pushback by civilians or other world leaders would be dismissed. Imagine 90% of the world leaders giving the head of WHO total and absolute control during a pandemic. I may be using the term loosely but the idea of hard sci fi is shit that could happen in reality rather than idk, cape shit which is sci fi but fantastical.
From the synopsis, the only thing that seems very far fetched is the fungus microbes eating the sun or whatever it was.
It is very plausible that if a sun is dying and scientists are able to get there to fix it, any race that is able to get to the sun, would. If that means AYYS too.
From the synopsis its not our sun the goose is going to either its the sun in the AYYs solar system.

I enjoyed the book but it's a guilty pleasure like ready player one. It's fun for a single read as long as you don't look for any subtext or anything clever, real basic soap opera shit. People saying it's amazing are children who haven't read many books or retarded. Most of the book is like when they put dramatic music over scenes in reality TV to force people to FEEL something about it, when really the writing doesn't actually deserve that feeling because it's so shallow. I predict the film will be a huge success and I will be annoyed by the fact.

Weir writes fine sci-fi but his sense of humor is so puerile that it's sad.

The narrator of the book jokes about thinking he might be a pedophile (he wakes up with amnesia) and he remembers what his mission is after ripping a catheter out of his cock.
