What is his problem?
>>

nice of them to show what it's like being a pawn, but i never got much from the show that is aware that the war they're fighting is both endless and meaningless. it's like a napoleonic time capsule and i think that tolstoy would hate the show, seeing it as a fetishization of concepts that represent an end in itself. it's just full-on military aristocracy that veers into arrested development due to japanese fatalism, a particularly nasty trait when joined with tradition, chain of command etc.

a show featuring jagged alliance 2 cast would be much better.

>democracy is rotten so it's better to not have any choice at all

i never understood you people. voting may not matter much or at all, but as soon as you excise that option you have jeopardized yourself further.
>>
>>216015896
The problem with the show is how undemocratic the supposedly democratic government was. It's like fighting for Russian """"democracy"""".
>>
>>216015896
>What is his problem?
He's a fanatic, like most of republicans
>>
>>216015989
That's not a problem with the show. Yang is just wrong; or rather, everything he says is him coping about the fact that overthrowing the awful government would be objectively the correct decision to make to save the FPA multiple times, and justifying his decision not to seize power which may have actually saved it from destruction, when the real reason he didn't do that was that he didn't want to. He simply didn't want that power and authority and the responsibility that would come with it, because he was unambitious and lazy.
It's not like he actually had any kind of principles about obeying the government no matter what, or he'd have just let them imprison and/or kill him the several times they tried to do that, like what happened to Socrates.

>watch the two movies
meh
>watch episode 3-11 of OVA
this show is fantastic and I’m happy to know I have 100 episodes left
>>
>>216015908
Practically every other episode the narrator mentions how every act of honor and nobility by the cast members would be seen by future historians as the hypocritical hubris of warmongering mass murderers.

Yang was just thinking long-term about democracy especially after he became famous. If he overthrew his democracy after being seen as a champion for it, then he just refuted his own idea. As a symbol and champion for democracy, and as a historian himself, he knew that going against the democratically elected government of the FPA would snuff out any hope of democracy for the future, because who would have hope for something destroyed by its greatest champion?

Damn those terrorists delayed the negotiated capitulation of Iserlohn to the empire in exchange for some concessions to constitutionalism by like a whole month
>>
>>216016549
The point is that the story predates 9/11.

yeah without 9/11 america NEVER would have invaded all the middle eastern countries that coincidentally had the most natural resources to exploit

It's not like awful corrupt democracies being overthrown and replaced with a functioning democracy, or a military coup taking control of elections to stop them from being rigged are unheard of.
>>
>>216015925
it's an idea pushed by democratic governments to maintain control
an actual democracy is impossible for any extended period of time, it always devolves into a stealth oligarchy/ plutocracy when the politicians start receiving 'funding' from their benefactors
>>
Go back to your containment zone.

>>
>>216017336
A democracy is only functional for as long as the populace in general cares about it, which means about one generation after it achieves prosperity.
>>
>>216017419
people can care all they want, but if they don't do anything it will inevitably become corrupt as fast as possible, as we have seen time and time again
the only way to prevent this is to make sure every single politician is in mortal terror of the population killing them the entire time they are in office, which will make them think twice about lying to their voters about what they were going to do if elected
>>
>>216017481
you just described an African "republic" and they're shithole kleptocracies in which the government is just another gang

>>
>>216015908
You're just throwing buzzwords around. By the collapse of the Free Planets Alliance, the show makes it plenty clear the war is basically meaningless. The characters as well talk about it quite often as well - especially when they acknowledge the Alliance is corrupt, and that Reinhard's changes to the empire made it objectively a better place.

Absolutely

When I first watched the show a long time ago, I thought it was from exposure to that sickly noble who tried assassinating Reinhard.
>>

> fatalism
All their energy from WW2 defeat + demilitarization went into these intricate worldbuilding of military empire sci-fi sagas. Less destructive than CIA/NATO at least
>>
>>216016489
that's not what Yang said. terrorism can't divert the course of history. it can certainly slow things down or speed things up (and it's really hard to tell which will happen).
>>
Is it actually worth it or is it a meme? I haven't started it yet because it has a lot of episodes I'm scared to commit to it.
>>

Reinhardt got AIDS from fucking Julian.

A bald faced lie. The show gets better and better, especially towards The Battle of Vermillion.

The issue I have is that the show takes itself way too seriously but it doesn't have enough knowledge about history, political science or military philosophy to back it up. It tries so hard to be profound but it only ends up feeling like your autistic grand strategy playing nephew at thanks giving giving dunning kruger speeches about how Nazi Germany was actually really powerful and about to win WW2 and how Hitler was an economics mastermind.

It's just so tiresome. Especially when people that clearly don't know any better fall for it hook line and sinker here on 4chan.

Thank FUCK I was well read enough in these topics before the weird modern "internet reactionary" trend. I could see a less experiences less educated younger version of me being misled by this show and it retarding my worldview.
>>
>>216019833
Yet again, tell us of the better shows that don't have any of these issues.

You shouldn't be basing your world view on any fictional media to begin with.

it's the inherent problem with democracy
all of them are fated to devolve into a select group of individuals that take advantage of the populace why lying to their faces about what's going on
at least with other forms of government you know who's fucking you over, with democracy you're never sure if it's the politician or the people paying him
>>
>>216019833
if you want to get technical germany almost won ww2 in 1940 - 1941 if they had been more strategic in the bombing of britain
although even that's questionable given that the uk was already getting supplies from the us at that time
>>
>>216020210
germany would have lost ww2 even if they won every single battle because their war economy was unsustainable and their logistics were constantly just weeks away from collapse. It's a miracle they kept being lucky and raiding the exact resources they needed every time they were about to collapse.

It's for the same reason that Russia is also catastrophically losing the war in Ukraine. Not because they are losing fights and battles, but because their supply lines are collapsing so it's a matter of time before they physically can't keep their standing army supplied anymore.
