I feel like the three of them have all fallen into the same pit.
Clarkson started a farmer, Hammond got a machine shop, and May got a pub, but all three of them have virtually no agency in their enterprises.
They're so obviously personal efforts rather than business ventures, but have been swindled into making a big thing out of it, rather than keeping it simple.

I think James made out the best. He has a gin company that's doing very well for itself and a pub in which to drink said gin. Other than that, he has some cooking shows and a travel show, which is the easiest of easy content to make. He doesn't seem miserable at all.
