Was he an improvement over the book version?
The movies butchered Aragorn and Boromir DESU
>>216023114The book version seemed like he was just a totally stand up guy that went totally out-of-character crazy for a very short time. The ring-lust of the film version was one of his defining characteristics.Ring-temptation of the book version was only very faintly simmering beneath the surface. From what I can remember anyway.

>>216023167faramir too
>>216023167*****improvedThey have humanity and nuance.
film boromir being better than book boromir is not a good trade for movie faramir being left on the cutting room floor
>>216023114The opposite. Book Boromir was nuanced, film Boromir was one dimensional "give me the ring" guy. They did it worse to Faramir whos essentially Boromir 2 in the movies and is nothing like his brother in the books.
>>216023296this plus Sean Bean and Viggo fucking kill it
In the two towers, faramir gives the speech about the kings of Gondor that in the return of the king movie, Gandalf gives to pippin
>>216023395movie Boromir is not one dimensional at all

>>216023167They butchered Gimli the most by reducing him to comic relief.
>>216023296the whole point of Aragorn is that he's borderline perfect and Tolkien's ideal ruler. The characters meant to be relatable are lesser men with flaws like Theoden, Boromir, Faramir, and Denethor
>>216023167Not nearly as much as Gimli and most of the hobbits
