Faust (1926) shows you how far we have fell as a species and civilization,
>no need for obnoxious dialogue every 2 seconds
>no need for CGI for ridiculous action scenes
>no need for the last ultra-advanced camera nor the perfect lightning
>no need for 4 billion dollar budget
>no need for 10,000 workers
Gives you primordial fear, your blood memory remembers the apex predator from an dark forgotten era.

I swear, when I was young I thought the actors of the 1920s were exaggerating about the "death of cinema and art" when sound became the standard, now that I've been comparing silent films with sound films, I agree with those actors, they were prophets.

PD: ofc there are sound films that are pure Kino, but don't give the same feels that Faust.

I appreciate you spamming this cool image. Gonna watch this kino today
>>
Reminds me of that weird ass scene with the devil from Fantasia. Fantasia was kind of a silent film with musical accompaniment though
>>

Your welcome and spoiler: you will love it.

Thanks for the reminder anon, I must rewatch it again.
Also, Chernabog should pass his gym routine.

There's a theatrical quality here.

We need more silent / theatrical / 1920s-30s Kino threads.
>>
>>216037272
Why? Do you have anything interesting to say about it? OP sure doesn't.

Thank you. I'll look into it.

Also watched The Phantom of the Opera and really enjoyed it. The stark contrast of light and shadows, the sets, the tone. Stunning.

Kek, I looked it up because it was mentioned in Mad Men. Probably was a big deal for boomer screenwriter curriculum or something.
>>216037557
Yeah, that's how I started into silent films, only eurokino, dunno where to start with american silent ones.

OP here, I wish anon, sadly my country is USA's colony and has a cultural (Kino) embargo, so everytime I try to watch something in TV I have to suffer 24/7 current yanki slop.

Sometimes there is a miracle and a random Kino appears (like Faust).

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari for the peak of German Expressionism
Menilmontant (haunting, darkly poetic French kino)
Earth (Impressionistic Soviet kino, isn't very preoccupied with montage like other russians)
Sherlock Jr., Steamboat Bill Jr., The Cameraman, The General, Seven Chances, etc. (comedies starred and directed by Buster Keaton, a good option to get into silent films in general)
The Passion of Joan of Arc (very mesmerizing scenes)

>>216037356
It was though. You can hear the same dissonant chords that lots of metal, especially black metal uses. Metal as fuck lil bro!

There's a German Noir crime book series where one of the villains is a lunatic film director who murders actresses and cuts out their vocal cords because he's going insane about silent cinema dying lol

The story if there is one isn't interesting. But i like it for the magnificent set pieces.
>>
>>216036466
Did you know the main actor plays both young and old Faust ? The audio score on the DVD really elevates the movie
>>
>>216041102
Alright fine, i'll watch it at 2x speed grandpa
>>
>>216036466
Beaultiful looking movie in the first 20 minutes or so, then it became a lame, boring story and the devil became a joke character.
I feel as if I could edit the begining a bit, by cutting a bunch of stuff out, make the pacing BETTER and post it on youtube

Murnau and Lang mog all other movies
