I'm a big fan of old, classic scifi films, like space aliens/UFO-type stories—even the cheesy stuff. But lately I've been curious about stepping into more monster flicks, Godzilla specifically.Being such an expansive, longevous franchise, where do I begin with Godzilla? Does /tv/ have a recommended list of Gojia movies?>And please don't sarcastically recommend the 1998 dogshit with Matthew Broderick
>>216036689If you like old monster movies I'd start from the beginning and work your way you. What you'll see is an evolution of not only the suit plus effects, but of the plots that involve giant monsters and also crucially humans. If you had to choose one solid piece of gold to showcase the culmination of all the classic toho films? I'd say Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla (1974) aka The Cosmic Monster. This is peak Kaiju cinema and I struggle to think of a single classic that outshines it.

>>216037383One of my favorite Japanese films. It's a true gem.
I would start with Godzilla 1954. then check out Minus One, the GMK (2001) and Shin Godzilla. From there i would just check out the different continuities in order
>>216036689Nothing wrong with the original King Kong.
>>216036689watch Godzilla 2000. any other answer is wrong and setting you up for disappointment. if you go 1954 first, you will think everything else is inferiorand if you go goofy first, you might drop it before it gets good
>>216037834heres a chart for reference when I mean different continuities. and while GMK does make a passing joke reference 1998, its not required viewing at all for GMK
>>216036689>Where should I start Godzilla 1954, of courseAlso for the different continuities the better ones imo are>ShowaKing Kong vs. GodzillaMothra vs. GodzillaGhidorah the Three Headed MonsterInvasion of Astro-MonsterEbirah Horror of the DeepGodzilla vs. HedorahGodzilla vs. MechagodzillaTerror of Mechagodzilla>HeiseiGodzilla vs. BiollanteGodzilla vs. Mechagodzilla IIGodzilla vs. Destoroyah>Millennium Godzilla 2000 MillenniumGodzilla Mothra And King Ghidorah Giant Monsters All-Out AttackGodzilla Final Wars>ReiwaShin GodzillaGodzilla: Minus OneAfterwards if you want you can check some of the other movies like vs. Gigan or the Kiryu duology. Or some other franchises like Gamera.>>216037974If he's used to cheesy scifi stuff, he can stomach Showa goofiness.
>>216038050good picks
>>216038028All those fucking movies about a lizard destroying a city. And people complain about Marvel
