There's not that much that's super original in Harry Potter. For example, a lot of its ideas were very strongly inspired by a 1970s book series called the Worst Witch, which got adapted into a made-for-tv movie in 1986 starring a 12-year old Fairuza Balk. Interesting a few people are bringing up ghostwriting here. I think the series might have been passed off as early as book 3. I don't have any proof of this but just a feel. Books 1 and 2 feel like they are from a different series with the way they are structured. They are much more concise. Book 3 was perhaps the new writers experimenting before they settled on a format for the rest of the series.
