How good was this back in the old days? Because watching clips of it a lot of the show looks contrived as fuck, it's like watching action movies from the 80s + some insane plot armour and convenient coincidences
>>216052332Sorry, Ivan. It’s still kino.
>>216052332kill yourself
>>216052332It was good on /tv/ because of the truly awful and stupid memes. BrBa set the standard for poorly-drawn cartoon panels
>>216052332At the time, there wasn't really any dark or interesting TV shows so Breaking Bad really stood out.Watching it today really shows how very dumb it was and how much standing around in the middle of the desert scenes there were.
>>216052332It was always a goofy live action cartoon for adults
>>216052372we were so innocent. the idea that breaking bad would be one of the darkest shows on tv is laughable today
>>216052372>>216052627The Shield was darker and had much worse consequences for its characters.
>>216052332>some insane plot armour and convenient coincidencesSuch is the fate of all television shows, especially ones that go on for a while. They have to constantly do cliffhangers, build tension from not just season to season but episode to episode. And it just starts becoming a clown show. It’s at least still engaging from a performance, music, character and directing standpoint. But the plotting gets REAAAAAL bad. It wouldn’t be such a problem if the show wasn’t begging you to take it as seriously as cancer.
>>216052332Walter White was a Mary Sue and Jesse Pinkman was the worst character in the history of television.
>>216052332It was extremely fun. I couldn't stop watching it, and it absolutely holds up even today.>>216052420Yeah I was about to say it reminds me of anime in some sense.
>>216052828People keep abusing the term Mary Sue/Gary Stu. That’s applied to characters with no flaws who make zero mistakes and don’t actually suffer any consequences caused by their own actions. Think Owen from Jurassic World movies or Rey in the Sequel Trilogy or Toretto in the Fast and the Furious moviesThe term you’re actually looking for is “plot armor.” You’re mad that Walter is “so smart” that he’s basically magical.
>>216052332>I watched all the exciting action-packed bits out of context and it looks sillywhat a shock
>>216052332>watching clips of itWhy would you do this instead of just watching the show?
>>216053288>6 seasons of boomerslop redditcoreI'll pass
>>216053015i think the most egregious thing was the little chemistry bomb he used against tuco
>>216053015>You’re mad that Walter is “so smart” that he’s basically magicalCorrectThought I would also argue he is never shown as making any "mistakes". Any "mistake" he makes is immediately spun into some kind of ingenious chess move against gus/the cartel/hank/Jesse/insert character.
>>216053608You didn't watch the show.
>>216052797Serialised plotting can't really work on TV, or at least, a TV serial has to be extremely adaptable, like a soap opera: you never know what's going to work, or not work, or be denied you by forces beyond your control. With Breaking Bad, they obviously had a rough plan from the get-go that they mostly stuck to, but, for instance, they never planned for Jesse to last more than a few episodes. It makes no sense that Walt would ever stick his neck out for Jesse, or vice versa, so the plot becomes ridiculous; but the actors are fantastic, and have great chemistry together, improving every scene that they're in. I think the producers made the right call keeping Jesse, but we should all remember that every serialised TV show is nothing but a soap opera, and stop taking it so seriously. It's no good when a writer takes himself too seriously.
>>216053693that scene would've been so much better with a little fart humor mixed in. hank releases an ear-shattering blast right there
>>216053693Also another really convenient and ridiculous plot
>>216053671What's a "mistake" Waltuh made that ultimately hurt him? As in: Walt makes mistake, bad consequence happens, bad consequence is not immediately spun into good reward.
>>216053752Yes, but Walter did make dumb mistakes in the show and sometimes couldn't use them on his favor. Leaving the book in the bathroom is an obvious example of this, so critique the show's errors, but not make shit up.
I remember this from my youth. Such a long time ago. I cannot recall it now.
>>216053740i mean this board really rips on BB but i like it. i rewatch it probably every couple years or so. it does feel anticlimactic but the actors make up for the issues i have with the story itself, for the most partit kinda falls apart at the end though. having a bunch of hick white nationalists being the final antagonists really takes away from how much of a threat the cartels were made out to be
Only contrarians think Breaking Bad is bad. Objectively a masterpiece.
>>216053693This is immediately spun into: Walt falsifies hanks involvement and now has total control over hank.
there's a reason why this show took off between season 4 and 5 there was a massive quality bumplook at how they marketed the early seasons of the show no wonder nobody cared about it
>>216053608his mistakes were more prominent with how he treated and handled his family, along with self-justification for his motivations.
>>216053797They made such a big thing out of turning the sympathetic character into the villain, I was disappointed that they didn't go all the way in turning the unsympathetic character (Hank) into the heroShow should've ended with Hank's triumph but they treated the Hank plot like a loose end to wrap up
