This is such a weird trope. I have only ever seen it referred to as being a common movie trope in satires like scary movie or pic related or referenced as a joke (but a joke about a totally true thing)Does it even meaningfully exist in actual horror movies? Other forums seem certain but struggle to name a bunch of horror movies where apparently this super common trope exists. Half the examples are not even horror movies, just any movie at all. Old black man dies of cancer in a drama? yep that counts Half of the characters it says fulfill the trope aren’t even black. Just anybody who’s not white. That’s how hard it is to find examples, has to broaden the search for blacks dung first to anybody non white And finally it straight up ignores the trope name. Any black character who dies at any point fulfills it somehow. (As if they somehow wouldn’t in a slasher movie? Most people die in those. Why is the black guy getting killed after 3 whites got killed somehow an example of racism?)
It was a real trope, every single seventies horror did it, too many to name

It never made sense as a trope Blacks don't go caving, deep sea diving, sky diving, into haunted places, follow suspicious killers, fuck around with monsters, demons, or aliens. They would never be in this situation. The only sensical horror would be Saw because they were kidnapped, a cult because they're stupid, or gang violence again because stupid. Or perhaps even if an animal attacked then in the Sahara.Horror movies are for whites because theu epxlore these places, Asians because they're superstitious, and Latinos because they are actually haunted.
