I counted 5 direct "homages" from Signs. A couple were taken verbatim, when she runs outside with a baseball at night to look at the roof and when her torch goes out in the prison and she smacks it like Gibson does in the cornfield

The husband was such a nothing character. A guy shoots himself on their porch and his wife is sitting there covered in blood and he's just like "You OK?" then leaves the room. They should have made him an outright asshole or something at least that could be entertaining.
