Great movie; the fact that it was nominated and won an Oscar is proof that Oscars are retarded and don't matter at all
>>

It has rotk levels of fucking end already. Pretty good movie

Ripoff of Borgman and not a very good one at that

It was somewhat interesting but too long with a strange and unsatisfying ending. I hate poor people.

Korea has been handing Ls to Hollywood and the music industry ever since.
>>
>>216054774
its alright but the main characters are annoying, stupid, and selfish, i actually found myself sympathizing with the rich people. i think it got highly rated because it was many people's first korean film.

I think it got highly rated because it's the least ham-fisted Korean attempt at social commentary ever

Nobody hates poors more than former poors who worked their way into financial stability. Same with fat people.

>rich people are disgusting animals who don't deserve their success
>poor people are poor because they're stupid, resentful, and short sighted

Based social commentary
>>
>>216054774
it's a movie about how the poor are inherently bad people who are responsible for their own circumstances and would destroy anything good or beautiful if given it, out of shortsightnedness and selfishness, while the rich only ought to be more discerning and wary of them
no idea why people pretend it's some kind of leftist critique of capitalism
>>
/tv/ refuses to discuss this movie..

The rich father seemed like a hardworking salaryman. Probably a middle manager clearing 50 hour weeks. The poor father was a dirtbag who blamed the world for his problems.
>>
>>216055379
This. The family becomes increasingly depraved in their pursuit of wealth. At the beginning, the protagonist is too meek to confront the drunk pissing in their alley. By the end, he's willing to bludgeon him to death with a stone.

Korea is so fking weird. Like looking at an alien society based on earth whose sole goal is to emulate humans as best as they can, but they just can't help devolving into a hyper hierarchical hivemind society of money worship.

>>
>>216056539
ok and? so have I. You're basically describing every modern capitalist society but trying to attribute it to some kind of wacky thing unique to Koreans. They've been occupied by America for like 70 years so it must be some unique attribute of koreaness that makes them that way, couldn't be any other factors.
>>
>>216056741
>They've been occupied by America for like 70 years so it must be some unique attribute of koreaness that makes them that way, couldn't be any other factors.
It has to be because America, for all its faults, isn't like what I describe. You can actually observe their humanity.
>>
>>216056753
yes colonized and colonizer societies have different attributes, open a history book.

so what's the message here, did I get it right
>poor people are stuck in a vicious wagie cycle working for pennies no matter what they come up with believing that hard work will pay off, one day, maybe (the line of "I have finally made it" is entirely subjective in the rat race), heckin eat the rich doesn't work since the moment they take their place it's back to square one since you can replace the people but not the system and they will inevitably fuck it up, which is shown by the poor family starting to act smug with other poors despite being at their level just yesterday
>rich people simply don't care and live in their bubble, the problems of subhumans are just a bunch of nothingburger to them, rich people are not inherently heckin evil but they are not necessarely better either, the difference being that rich people can soften individual shortcomings by hiring an english tutor for example or going to an elite school while poor people can't despite potentially being even better at something
>>
>>216058965
>believing that hard work will pay off
what hard work
they do nothing but scheme and scam, at least the kids do
>>
>>216054774
Great black comedy but Bong has nothing to say beyond a vague "capitalism bad" message. Same with all his other work.
>>
>>216059057
and you seriously think working on some dead end job will make any difference whatsoever?
at least it's honest work I guess
>>
>>216059313
>poor people are stuck believing hard work will pay off, they never break out
the movie opens with them lazing around and stealing their neighbor's wifi, then they try honest work (folding pizza boxes) but immediately look for shortcuts, they fuck up 1/4 the boxes but get paid 90% anyway, and show that their real skill, what they're best at in the world, is conning and pressuring the pizza lady into firing her workers and hiring them
they don't believe hard work will pay off, they just believe in the pay off. it's what the dad is teaching the kids
you have it exactly backwards when you say
>the moment they take their place it's back to square one since you can replace the people but not the system
you can take a nigga out the hood but you can't take the hood out a nigga. the poor family fucks over everyone they interact with, from the first scene to the end of the movie. they get rewarded way more from their work than they deserve, and they fuck them over anyway
>>
what is it about korean media that brainwashes people? not even weebs are as deranged as koreaboos.
>>
>>216054774
I haven't seen it, but I watched that Mickey 17 one and it sucked, so I'm not eager to watch this one.
>>
>>216060530
that's his worst movie
>>
>>216054774
Good concept at its core, but like all of Bong Joon Ho's films it's too obsessed with class conflict to really have a human heart or any broader message than 'capitalism bad'. His films are never able to reach an ending that doesn't involve every antagonist dying gruesomely (a common but glaring flaw in Korean drama). Am I really supposed to believe you have multiple deaths and injuries under one roof, the police never show up, and all we get in the epilogue is that some 'foreign buyer' quickly snapped up the place even after all the blood and chaos?
>>
>>216056409
Low energy.
Sometimes you have to work real hard to a somewhat disproportionate, and delayed, reward. It just feels really, really not worth it, even though it might be.
However, even when you can land a proportional work/reward, or simply sucked it up and ARE working hard for the low reward, shit just happens. That's what happened to them in the movie, everything was fine till shit got in the way, low energy people just simply completely collapses when the somewhat stable plan is tampered with, even more so unexpectedly.

>t. low energy
>>
>>216058764
A Korean actress killed herself because she wore a very mildly revealing dress by Western standards to some red carpet event and people shamed her for it. They get cancelled for the most ridiculous shit imaginable.
>>
A walled off fancy house with a large lawn in the middle of the city, and with a bunker to boot, seems like the dream.
>>
>>216062232
I went to a rich people school in Hong Kong because my dad taught there, houses like this are indeed awesome but it feels very weird at first having a platoon of servants everyhwere and you're just supposed to ignore them while they work around you.
>elevator inside the house
>20 seat movie projection room in the basement
>treehouse in the small woods overlooking cityscape

It sucked having to go back home to my parents comparatively shit apartment afterwards though, I very much identified with the poor family.
