>>216054774Great movie; the fact that it was nominated and won an Oscar is proof that Oscars are retarded and don't matter at all
>>216054774It has rotk levels of fucking end already. Pretty good movie
Ripoff of Borgman and not a very good one at that
>>216054774quite good
>>216054774>its YOU, you were the parasite all along!best line in the movie
It was somewhat interesting but too long with a strange and unsatisfying ending. I hate poor people.
>>216054805Korea has been handing Ls to Hollywood and the music industry ever since.
>>216054774its alright but the main characters are annoying, stupid, and selfish, i actually found myself sympathizing with the rich people. i think it got highly rated because it was many people's first korean film.
>>216054774for me it's park so dam
>>216054897>i think it got highly rated because it was many people's first korean filmI think it got highly rated because it's the least ham-fisted Korean attempt at social commentary ever
>>216054875>I hate poor people.Nobody hates poors more than former poors who worked their way into financial stability. Same with fat people.
>a strange and unsatisfying ending> its alright but the main characters are annoying, stupid, and selfishalways nice to remember that I share this board this idiots
>>216054921so-dam what?
>>216055172so dam cute
>>216054774trash made for retards
>>216054869You're not funny.
>>216054821I liked it but I noticed that as well. Don’t think many people have seen Bergman desu.
>>216055238see >>216055238
>rich people are disgusting animals who don't deserve their success>poor people are poor because they're stupid, resentful, and short sightedBased social commentary
>>216054774it's a movie about how the poor are inherently bad people who are responsible for their own circumstances and would destroy anything good or beautiful if given it, out of shortsightnedness and selfishness, while the rich only ought to be more discerning and wary of themno idea why people pretend it's some kind of leftist critique of capitalism
/tv/ refuses to discuss this movie..
>>216055379>no idea why people pretend it's some kind of leftist critique of capitalismbecause direction brain retards on /tv/ have rarely seen the things they make seethe threads about, they're not here to post about tv and film.
>>216055484no, not here, in the real world, in mainstream media commentary
>>216055421korea won, this upsets the weebs, therefore /tv/ hates anything korean.
>>216055204that show was pretty meh unfortunately.
>>216055377The rich father seemed like a hardworking salaryman. Probably a middle manager clearing 50 hour weeks. The poor father was a dirtbag who blamed the world for his problems.
>>216055379This. The family becomes increasingly depraved in their pursuit of wealth. At the beginning, the protagonist is too meek to confront the drunk pissing in their alley. By the end, he's willing to bludgeon him to death with a stone.
I fucking hated Snowpiercer. Stupid premise, stupid train, and the whole decision to doom humanity forever because le inequality... exists
>>216054774good, people fixated on the social commentary far too much while ignoring everything else about it
>>216055574record of youth wasn't great either
The second ending was trash and was completely pointless. No idea what the point of adding that was
>>216055834The second ending? Like when the kid was fantasizing how he will buy the house and free his dad?
>Kills himself because there were allegations that he smoked marijuanaKoreans are some strange people
>>216055877Yeah, just seemed kind of redundant to me.
>>216055884he was murdered actually
so dam
>>216055904Yeah I agree now that you bring it up. At first I thought it was maybe setting itself up for a sequel. But what would they even write about?
>>216054812>rotk >fucking end alreadyVERY brown post
>>216055884it was harder drugs than weed and he was being blackmailed by a brothel madam so he was probably neck deep in whores too.
>>216055912Based.
>>216054774If the poors were so smart, how come they didn't succeed in anything before? How come they were folding pizza boxes? And then just like pulling something out they ass they pull off some Oceans 11-style scheme
Korea is so fking weird. Like looking at an alien society based on earth whose sole goal is to emulate humans as best as they can, but they just can't help devolving into a hyper hierarchical hivemind society of money worship.
>>216056438sounds like projection did you get your entire perception of Korean society from the little Korean media that gets filtered to the west and YouTube video essays?
>>216056518I've been to SK
well it won at Cannes Film Festivalit means it must be good, right?
>>216056539ok and? so have I. You're basically describing every modern capitalist society but trying to attribute it to some kind of wacky thing unique to Koreans. They've been occupied by America for like 70 years so it must be some unique attribute of koreaness that makes them that way, couldn't be any other factors.
>>216056741>They've been occupied by America for like 70 years so it must be some unique attribute of koreaness that makes them that way, couldn't be any other factors. It has to be because America, for all its faults, isn't like what I describe. You can actually observe their humanity.
>>216056753yes colonized and colonizer societies have different attributes, open a history book.
>>216056825Like I said, it makes for a weird, inhuman society.
>>216054774kino, decent acting and really good editing.if you liked it then check out Memories of Murder, same director and it's one of the best thriller of this century.
>>216054774I got really fucking sick of people talking about this movie when ive already done an extensive dive into Korean cinema with my online friends here at the /tv/ board on 4chan. Im cultured. They arent.
>>216054821I liked Borgman more
>>216057057for me it's Im Kwon-taek
>>216054774>opinions?I could have saved her
>>216054774not even his best film
>>216056409they're not smart, the boy failed his SATs like 5x
>>216056518>>216056741>>216056825you are a massive faggot desuhe described korean society without ascribing blame or causes, you pretended he only knew about it through media, then when you found out it was from personal experience, you said it wasn't their fault and was universal anyway. just mindboggling mental gymnastics, darvo tier shit
>>216058571rude unnie
>>216054774Fantastic thriller, mediocre social commentary
>>216055884I don't know why but Asia treats Marijuana as some awful drug that should never be touched under any circumstance. Nobody in the west is that terrified of it.
>>216054774Weird that this, that survival game Netflix show, and K-Pop Demon Hunters are Worst Korea's contributions to cinema in the 21st century.
>>216058630starting to think you talking about projection and getting an unrealistic fairyland mental conception of korea from media may, in fact, have been projection
so what's the message here, did I get it right>poor people are stuck in a vicious wagie cycle working for pennies no matter what they come up with believing that hard work will pay off, one day, maybe (the line of "I have finally made it" is entirely subjective in the rat race), heckin eat the rich doesn't work since the moment they take their place it's back to square one since you can replace the people but not the system and they will inevitably fuck it up, which is shown by the poor family starting to act smug with other poors despite being at their level just yesterday>rich people simply don't care and live in their bubble, the problems of subhumans are just a bunch of nothingburger to them, rich people are not inherently heckin evil but they are not necessarely better either, the difference being that rich people can soften individual shortcomings by hiring an english tutor for example or going to an elite school while poor people can't despite potentially being even better at something
>>216058965>believing that hard work will pay offwhat hard workthey do nothing but scheme and scam, at least the kids do
>>216054774Great black comedy but Bong has nothing to say beyond a vague "capitalism bad" message. Same with all his other work.
>>216059057and you seriously think working on some dead end job will make any difference whatsoever?at least it's honest work I guess
>>216059313>poor people are stuck believing hard work will pay off, they never break outthe movie opens with them lazing around and stealing their neighbor's wifi, then they try honest work (folding pizza boxes) but immediately look for shortcuts, they fuck up 1/4 the boxes but get paid 90% anyway, and show that their real skill, what they're best at in the world, is conning and pressuring the pizza lady into firing her workers and hiring themthey don't believe hard work will pay off, they just believe in the pay off. it's what the dad is teaching the kidsyou have it exactly backwards when you say>the moment they take their place it's back to square one since you can replace the people but not the systemyou can take a nigga out the hood but you can't take the hood out a nigga. the poor family fucks over everyone they interact with, from the first scene to the end of the movie. they get rewarded way more from their work than they deserve, and they fuck them over anyway
what is it about korean media that brainwashes people? not even weebs are as deranged as koreaboos.
>>216054774I haven't seen it, but I watched that Mickey 17 one and it sucked, so I'm not eager to watch this one.
>>216060530that's his worst movie
>>216054774Good concept at its core, but like all of Bong Joon Ho's films it's too obsessed with class conflict to really have a human heart or any broader message than 'capitalism bad'. His films are never able to reach an ending that doesn't involve every antagonist dying gruesomely (a common but glaring flaw in Korean drama). Am I really supposed to believe you have multiple deaths and injuries under one roof, the police never show up, and all we get in the epilogue is that some 'foreign buyer' quickly snapped up the place even after all the blood and chaos?
>>216056409Low energy.Sometimes you have to work real hard to a somewhat disproportionate, and delayed, reward. It just feels really, really not worth it, even though it might be.However, even when you can land a proportional work/reward, or simply sucked it up and ARE working hard for the low reward, shit just happens. That's what happened to them in the movie, everything was fine till shit got in the way, low energy people just simply completely collapses when the somewhat stable plan is tampered with, even more so unexpectedly.>t. low energy
>>216058764A Korean actress killed herself because she wore a very mildly revealing dress by Western standards to some red carpet event and people shamed her for it. They get cancelled for the most ridiculous shit imaginable.
A walled off fancy house with a large lawn in the middle of the city, and with a bunker to boot, seems like the dream.
>>216062232I went to a rich people school in Hong Kong because my dad taught there, houses like this are indeed awesome but it feels very weird at first having a platoon of servants everyhwere and you're just supposed to ignore them while they work around you.>elevator inside the house>20 seat movie projection room in the basement>treehouse in the small woods overlooking cityscapeIt sucked having to go back home to my parents comparatively shit apartment afterwards though, I very much identified with the poor family.
>>216062133probably also killed by the notorious serial killer IU she can't keep getting away with it
