Truly great film wasn't thought of as anything special, every weekend a new classic was coming out in theaters.Compared to all this, yes, the rot that began in the 2000s was trash, but compared to what would come after 2012, 2000s movies like Twilight were at least made earnestly by everyone involved. The cinematographer and writer and lighting department might have thought it was a dumb gay vampire movie for stupid tweens, but they still took pride in their craft and they knew how to do their jobs, so even the worst story material was elevated by the skill of everyone involved.Nothing like that exists anymore, especially in movies. So in hindsight it's easy to go back to a nostalgic time - even if it was smack dab in the middle of the rot - and see that the things we hated at the time weren't all that bad, especially compared to how awful everything after 2012 is.Unfortunately zoomers and new generations won't get this experience, since they're part of the great stagnation and they never knew anything good their whole lives.
