And by kid movies I don't mean PG or plays on Nickelodeon. I mean kid movies as in it feels like it was written by some spikey haired, COD-playing, Frito-eating, kid with a bunch of ripped up pokemon cards all of his room.

What happened? What are there so many kid movies like Deadpool, Statham and Minecraft movies out these days? Why do they keep making money?

Are adult movies dead? When was the last Bergmanesque kino released? I would have watched it non-stop if I knew it was going to be the last one in favor of gusher-munching slop

Always remember that artistic expression is but a shadow of the society that produces it. You live in a late stage capitalist society on which people have given up on maturing and have chosen to embrace nostalgia because growing up has become unrewarding and the minimal societal structure that was meant to provide emotional containment, the traditional family unit, is being attacked and has almost been destroyed.

These never ending cinematic universes, these remakes and reboots... all of it is made to attract not only the new generations but the generations that grew up with the originals and are the current productive class (people in their 30 to 50). We call this yearning for a past that never was nostalgia but how do you explain the scale? Simple, a complete disappointment with the present. It´s not that they are choosing the movies themselves, but rather they are trying to recapture feelings from when they remember having been happier.

>TL;DR unless you fix the society producing the movies you can´t fix the movies

One of these things is not like the others...
