i watched le petit soldat yesterday as my first godard and it was okay. nothing special. the whole spy/assassin aspect was the weakest part and the relationship was a lot more interesting despite dialogues and monologues like that being completely unrealisitc, they are fun to listen to. it has more of a poem nature to it. similar to the torture scenes, and while interesting, they felt completely unrealistic and almost romanticized.

>My stomach hurt from laughing at this spot-on parody
I have many fond memories of doing so myself. Surprised I didn't have it rated (although I'm so patchy with it there are lots of staggering omissions: there should be more Dan and Zappa in the 5s, for example).

No way! Do you share a birthday with any /film/ figures (I'm very lucky as such a fan of Kitano and Cary Grant to share my birthday with both)?

>>216079066
Fantastic, but even better with visual accompaniment.

Guy took a post about me finding the original source of some (pygmy) chanting in Joe Hisaishi's theme from Kids Return from months ago as a lead to my RYM for his /film/ jihad. Almost impressed (and flattered).

I look very Southern European. The Sicilians, Greeks, Maltese, Lebanese, etc. that I encounter all think that I'm one of them.

It's good music, but I think you find it scary. It's adult music. Back to smooth jazz, my man.

Very good headcanon my dude, you should be a writer. In fact, I only paid 20 dollars to a literal child from Louisiana to give me all the juice on Lloyd.

Couldn't agree more. I was fortunate enough to see Steely Dan a couple years back and they played all the hits except Do It Again, surprisingly. RIP Walter Becker.
>No way! Do you share a birthday with any /film/ figures (I'm very lucky as such a fan of Kitano and Cary Grant to share my birthday with both)?
Sergio Leone and Mel Gibson always come to mind and I'd argue the latter is /film/ through auteur theory (The Passion, Apocalypto). George Martin also, who was essentially the fifth Beatle as he produced all their albums up until the last one. Oh yeah, the chick from Midsommar too.

Tragically, I'll have to side with Mr. La Isla Bonita over our good-natured Bogan on this particular issue.

I'm sufficiently mentally ill to listen to all sorts of experimental music, but not mentally ill enough to understand why anyone would derive more pleasure from listening to a Zappa-penned xylophone run over This Heat (Charles Hayward PBUH), or Joni fucking Mitchell. In fact, I really can't rationalize having a tenfold(!) preference for the "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee" man over Joni beyond severe undersocialization, and I say this as someone who genuinely likes Frank's music. For the most part.

Having multiple J-pop releases rated 5 stars but no black music (be it jazz, hip-hop, or R&B), especially when your whole shtick was ripped from African-American culture (gushing over a brapper) is genuinely evil, also. No way around it.

Well, as I've said, the ratings are by and large both old and patchy (and there's definitely some inconsistently-applied avant-teen severity to some ratings too) and thus not super accurate. That being said, I still can't stand Shit Heat or most of the humourless dogshit post-punk that I flirted with for a time in high school. I guess I like Joni's The Hissing of Summer Lawns (not catalogued on my RYM, tho'), but I can take her or leave her.

>no black music
Off the top of my head, Horace Silver's Song for My Father would probably be a 5. Ditto Fela Kuti's Expensive Shit, and Jorge Ben's Fôrça bruta along with some Duke and Satch singles and a decent amount of reggae (most if not all of those are probably already 4.5s). Of course, I have to rate them all 0.5 now because you said that them not being in 5 was evil. Sorry.

>your whole shtick was ripped from African-American culture (gushing over a brapper)
That's not how it happened. I got my butt obsession from growing up around gymnasts. There's an element of perversity to it too in that I'm old enough to have formative memories essentially exclusively of big butts being reviled (with me only noticing them getting positive attention after I was already interested in them).
