Post horror movies, especially Christmas ones.

This. Movie theaters should be an audio experience, but half of the recent horror films I saw in theater were just fucking grating. I didn't like Nosferatu but part of me wonders how much that was the screeching audio jump blares nuked my mood

I will be rewatching Gremlins this month. Still the ultimate "many small creatures" horror.

What's the correct taxonomy here. Gizmo is a Mogwai, are the others still Mogwai? Is Gizmo a Gremlin or is that just the evolved form. Or do they have another name?

Gizmo is a Mogwai. Mogwai are not gremlins. Mogwai can become Gremlins. Mogwai and Gremlins reproduce by getting wet, there are no females. I don't know if Gremlin is an evolved form or rather a corrupted form of Mogwai.

nta but Clown In A Cornfield removed all the references to Trump/MAGA that were in the original book
and Eddington made a whole movie about 2020/covid without referencing him as well, and primarily made fun of liberals while making a small town cop the "rational" one

Has more to do with how aggressively the current administration is weaponing its power for de facto censorship compared to those of the past. They got Colbert fired, defunded NPR, and almost sued South Park (probably backed out of that last one because its too good of a vehicle for pushing anti-trans rhetoric).

It's kino. From a traditional film perspective, it's criticized for having too much Gremlining and sfx focus which expands the runtime, but that's why its stronger as a horror film. It still hits all the Spielberg high notes.

The Mystery of Marie Roget is based on a book that's based on an unsolved murder.
>>
Reminder director Rob Savage is working on a CHUD-like.
>Beneath Manhattan's streets, something lurks.
>The cops see another vagrant's corpse. But Jack (Anthony Ramos) sees his brother's final message carved in flesh. Each precise wound, each harvested feature tells of something that's evolved beyond mere killing.
>Jack wants answers. Jimmy (Ben Mendelsohn), a homeless man who knew his brother, says they lie below.
>Together they embark on a nightmarish descent into the abandoned tunnels beneath the streets of New York City, where a twisted society thrives.
>Here, flayed bodies hang like trophies, screams echo throughout a myriad of chambers and halls, this is an unflinching gallery of horror where even the shadows have appetites.
>In the subterranean darkness, survival means becoming as savage as what stalks you.
>>
>>216457996

Mogwai and gremlins basically the same. They're both just monster/demon/trickster words in different languages. Mogwai is "bad devil", kind of like gweilo is "white devil". Gremlins are old armed forces demons who used cut the strings on biplanes or steal your stamps or otherwise cause havoc with machinery and the workplace

Ok, enough witches.
Just finished. Late 60s roughie from the female director of Lurkers. A day in the life of a psychotic buxom blonde high school girl named Janie who hates people and loves autumn because it's "the season when everything is dying." She decides to play hookie from school with a girlfriend, then manipulates her into fucking a stranger and runs them both over with the guy's car. Then she swims in a random guy's pool before stabbing him. A mousy lesbian picks her up hitchhiking and Jamie slashes her throat. She stops by her house and her stepdad's beating her mom so she goes to her room to touch herself. She goes by her dad's house and strangles his girlfriend with a belt. The he comes home and they fuck. He's pretty angry after when he finds his dead girlfriend in the bathtub, so he puts Janie in an insane asylum. The end. I guess things were pretty different for kids in the 60s. The nonstop improvised psychedelic music is by The Fear.

It's almost entirely the enthusiast market who are still purchasing physical copies of movies anyway. Not condoning the practice, but when your market is so much smaller than it was 15 years ago they have to resort to this shit to drive sales. I still remember in the mid 2000s when strategy guide publishers started selling limited hardcover collector's editions which was basically unheard of in the 90s outside of store exclusive versions with different covers but they were all mass produced paperbacks still.

Who knows how much longer they'll still be making physical releases at all? Disc factories are shutting down left and right and there are only like two-three BD player manufacturers left in the game now. I wish the streaming bubble would just burst already.

i have serious doubts bluray ever even won adoption after their format wars
>>
>>216471621
It didn't. Even today DVD sales account for something like 20% more than BD sales. A lot of people simply never made the upgrade to their disc players. By comparison gamers have always been forced to buy the latest machine if they wanted to keep playing all the new games but they never stopped making DVDs for new movies and there's an insane amount of older movies to pick and choose from. It took years and years for a lot of DVD titles to even get BD releases at all like True Lies and The Abyss which only came out a couple of years ago. The DVD catalog will probably always be more complete than BD which itself remains less complete than VHS.
>>
>>216471621
>>216472004
I never made the switch. The bluray player I have just acts as a media player because it has built in ethernet and wifi and plays every file format imaginable.

I have maybe 4 discs for it and have never played them.
>>
>>216472004
thats why 4k blu ray is the final format for discs. its a small portion of the market as it sits already.

im thrilled with the PQ output anyway, if in an alternative universe they released some sort of 8k disc the improvements at this point would be negligible at best.

It's flawed (got chopped up in the editing room) but imo it's really good if you like low budget slashers of this era. It's from the same producers as Pieces.
It's like an inversion of the typical Christmas slasher. Instead of a killer Santa, it's a guy that kills Santas.

Considering how his last movie was received I don't blame him and it took him 9 years between making The Ward and Ghosts of Mars which was also poorly received and I think they were both big blows to his confidence as a filmmaker plus directors past a certain age usually make nothing but crap anyway and he's old. The last thing he directed was a TV mini series two years ago don't think it was received very well either. He still composes music though.

The most worrying thing about this is that this movie was written and directed by the same guy who made the friday the 13th short film. No idea how long it will take to the people in charge of the "Jason Universe" brand to release a movie but if they let this guy to be the writer and director, expect Jason to kill racist or nazis or just white people in general and having a black or lesbian sidekick or some shit like that. Damn.

Watched night of the living dead for the first time recently. I'm actually surprised at how much I loathed it.

this trooe of "main character kills increasingly large amounts of nazis" is either two things
1: jews conflating "Christmas" and "white" with "NAZI" and "EVIL"
2: millenial writers bowing down to their globohomo overlords

what it produces is slop for brown thirdies to enjoy, and enough messaging to demoralize and brainwash the whites
if it doesnt completely rape their brains and make them have white guilt, it will just awaken them to the fact that their race will be a minority in their lifetime and all their culture will be wiped and deemed racist and barbaric
if netflix gets their hands on the warner bros archive, they will fucking destroy the negatives of all those problematic cartoons and movies

Just finished. Watched this because it's in the Letterboxd top 250 horror list, but it's not horror at all. Typical story of a famous model who's miserable and losing her looks and treats everyone around her like dirt. Being a miserable and bitter movie doesn't make it horror. It's glossy and well shot, but honestly they can't tone down the glamour enough to make it seem like a life anyone wouldn't want. Her main problem seems to be not wanting to lose what she has, not what she has making her unhappy. At the end she stabs herself to death at a press conference which I guess makes it horror to the people who added it to the list. Even that they can't halo making look cool, and it's strongly implied she faked her death anyway. Not a bad movie but much too long. The lead actress looks great and gets naked a couple times. Just not a horror movie.

Definitely on purpose, the character dressed like that in the movie is named Serpentik
>>216491475
I think it makes sense
spoiler the main character is an actor who used to play spies in movies. His career fizzled when the style of the genre changed and he got replaced by both a younger actor and a different franchise (Serpentik, which was also a long running franchise using different actresses, explaining the many faces Serpentik has when he confronts her.) Cut to modern day and the actor is developing dementia, and starts believing he actually WAS a spy, not just acting. His neighbor at the hotel goes missing and he begins to believe she was murdered and that someone's after him, which is why he kills the guy on the bridge. At the end it's revealed by the newspaper headline the girl was killed by pollution in the beach and wasn't murdered. The MC believes Maria Medeiros' character is an old Serpentik still after him and it's why he tries to kill her and chases her off the bridge, but she was really just a fan of the character he played, which is why she paid off his hotel bill and had a collection of the old comics. The diamonds he planned to pay his bill with were revealed to be fakes because they were just props from his old movies, not actual diamonds.

Yeah, I should've clarified, it's not that difficult to make sense of, but if you go into it expecting it to be a bit nonsensical, it's more enjoyable I would think. I do like that they purposely leave it a little ambiguous (with the comics). Was he ever an actor at all, or is the whole thing just a fantasy?

It's more style than substance but pretty entertaining

You're joking but I've actually seen some soibeards say that they think nudity/sexy scenes in their entertainment is bad because if their spouse or kid walks in on them in the living room it becomes awkward for them so they want to erase it. These are the people who allied with feminists in their anti-male gaze crusade first thing because they're too lazy to do a bit of research and can't accept something wasn't made for them and just move on to something else it wasn't out of some sense of virtue like they pretend but purely for selfish reasons. Really hate that part of humanity.
