Event Horizon and Soldier flopping back to back changed Paul W.S. Anderson. Imagine if Event Horizon had been a hit. It would have changed the entire trajectory of his career.

Surprisingly good movie. I thought it was going to suck ass.

I always think of Roger Ebert's take when I see this movie. "There was always a foreboding, but the boding never happens"

yeah gonna have to call bullshit on OP, RE1 was something of a phenomenon

Only fedoras hate this movie for mixing a religious concept like hell with sci fi
The only legit flaw is the unnecessary negro comic relief character
Still a great movie

that's a nice brainlet take you've got there. the foreboding comes from the knowledge you glean from the security camera footage/hell dimension visions. knowing what is there waiting for you and that the ship is desperately trying to take you there is where the tension comes from, which makes larry fishburne's sacrifice that much more brutal and heroic

Anyone who doesn't enjoy event horizon is a vaxxed asshole.
>>
i hate to be that guy, but this movie works so well as a 40k movie about early human experimentation with the warp that i can hardly separate the two anymore

The core reason the Resident Evil films went in such a pulpy direction (not saying they're bad) is that his attempt at more conventional horror did so badly. He really leaned in a more populist, stylish direction.

Soldier was great and underrated. It didn't deserve to flop. Things like this are why now every movie has to be dumbed down even further to only appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

Plot hole much?
It was established that he lives on that space station in like the first scene. Come on!
