I really don't understand why he was shilled as this great comedy legend. >painfully long and boring story setup to the most pointless "punchline" of all time, like a fucking pun>holds and holds and holds and holds to make people laugh out of social awkwardness but tricks people into believing it was out of comedic wit>keeps the sly smile to trick people into believing he's being funnyI've watched some of his Weekend Update and thought that was decently funny, but I feel like that was more thanks to Jim Downey's writing. Norm had above average delivery, but beyond that I have no idea why he became this glazed. Comedians that I actually find funny nearly always mention him as one of the comedy legends, and I just don't see it.
Oh look the 1000th post about someone not "understanding" Norm. What are you expecting people to change ur mind or something?
>>216484086yes
>>216484048His anti-humor shtick works best when he's playing a side character in a larger comedic ensemble. On its own, it's just not particularly funny. This is why he historically had a lot more success on TV and podcasting than stand up.
"It says here in this History book that the good guys have won every major war...now what are the odds?"
>>216484097Well that won't happen. If you don't find something funny it can't be explained you'll just have to live without Norms comedy which im sure won't be difficult
It's the voice of the singer.
He was funny, but has become overrated in the last few years. He was funniest when hosting the podcast. His comedy writing was pretty cringe, formulaic, and stilted. And just unfunny. A lot of his 'literary' writerly schtick was very corny. He was high on his own supply a lot and not some sort of savant like people make him out to be. A lot of his navel-gazing about SNL / the old days of comedy is insufferable. The worshipping by flannel-shirted reddit types has done his legacy a lot of harm.
>>216484105>>216484174OK, these were actually pretty good explanations, thanks. He constantly comes up as a subject on CONAF so that's why I was asking.
He was a real jerk
>>216484048Kurt Cobain effect where he became more celebrated and cherished as some legend after he died. If he were still alive today, you'd hear nothing from him.
>>216484116Yes, child, it will.Yes, child, it can.No, child, I will not, these are your delusions speaking.
a lot of it's anti comedy. if you dont like it you dont like it. it's not that deep.
>>216484048Let me guess, you're an asshurt MJ fan still bitter about him calling him a gay pedophile.
>>216484213Jokes on you you simp.People thought he was a legend way before he croaked
>>216484230No, this is your captain speaking. We're going down.
>>216484048I didn't even know he was sick was the longest setup of all time and for that alone he would be legendary.

He was funny when he hosted that YouTube event and treated it like a total joke. Outside of that he's not very funny. Likeable, but not very funny.
>>216487175No stalker, I'm not. That's you again. You will have the rest of your life to be pathetic in your cell. Enjoy.
>>216487265No, child. Those are your delusions again. I will not be spending any time in a jail cell. But you will. Enjoy.
>>216484109this one doesnt make much sense. the underlying observation is of course more like "at every point in time the history books stated that the most recent war that involves the nation of its writing was won by the good guys." guess it doesnt roll of the tongue as easily
>>216484109Has he ever opened a history book?
>>216484048are you retarded?>watch comedy man>makes me laugh? >no?>stop watchingIt's really that simple. That's why I don't watch Norm. Why the fuck are you making threads about court jesters. Jesus christ.
>>216484048Then don’t watch him. What can I tell you? He was a genuinely great comedian, and any comedian would tell you that, but it’s just not your style of comedy. Not everything has to be for you.

>>216487333Its a joke on the "history is written by the victors" quote. He has a similar joke about the "neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire" quote.
