I miss when Wes made movies set on earth and told stories about humans I don't even hate his new stuff, but it really just feels like bunch of emotionless aliens in an dollhouse on another planet trying to replicate a stageplay
I just act like he died after Darjeeling Limited and those other films were just ripoffs by a Jake Anderson.

>>216489803That’s strange because to me it seems like the opposite. His own personal style was still developing with Bottle rocket and Rushmore but the core of his artistry was already there. His stories only got more complex and grand because his budgets got bigger. Now it seems like he’s “experimenting” and failing at it. French Dispatch and Asteroid city were both boring meta wank fests and by far his worst movies. Phonecian Scheme was actually return to form imo, but really just a lackluster copy of his older stuff. I would actually really like if he came full circle and went back to something like Bottle Rocket with just a fun story, minimal cast, little bit of romance, little bit of violence and drama.

His new movies still have a couple of good jokes. But I kinda miss when the actors in his movies actually... acted.
