this quote is taken out of context
he was talking about corporations buying rights to black and white movies and altering them without any input from the original creator (the director).
>>216491375
stop being a drama queen
people making movies understand that the final decision always rests with the director. they are specifically hired to make his vision come to life. this is especially true for lucas because he truly was the final arbiter of what goes and what doesn't and not some studio exec in an office somewhere.
who, if not lucas should decide if he can or cannot alter his own movies?

Harrison Ford went to a chinese restaurant and when they asked him what he would like to eat he said
>I don't give a shit
When they brought out a plate of random leftovers and asked him if that was okay he said
>I don't know what that is
When he started feeling chest pains while eating he took out his phone and called 911, they asked him what the emergency was and he said
>I wish george lucas would die
When the paramedic arrived to take him to the hospital they asked him if he could walk and he replied
>You're an adult, act like it
When he got to the hospital they asked him where the pain was and he said
>I don't give a shit
When he went into cardiac arrest and the machines started beeping loudly he said
>Just leave me alone will ya

The only people who showed up to his funeral were 20,000 star wars fans wearing Han Shot First t-shirts, and the eulogy was delivered by Mark Hamill and the guy who played Greedo.

This happens a lot though. There are a lot of movies that are only widely available in forms that they were not originally released in.
Is the Blade Runner Theatrical cut currently available in 4K or whatever? Probably not. Is Rambo 3, with the tribute to the Muhajadeen still widely available?

Whether or not they should be is a whole other question, but then you have to convince companies they have a monetary incentive to remaster and re-release all of these specific cuts of different movies, every five to ten years, which is not going to happen.
>>
>>216496105
The context doesn't change anything because the fundamental act - cultural vandalism - is the same.

It's not the alterations that people object to you disingenuous prune, it's the fact he tried to expunge the original versions that people had loved for decades before he decided to "improve" them from existence out of spite because most people preferred them that's the problem. He couldn't just make a director's cut to sit alongside the originals like everyone else does because the wattle-necked old fuck's ego was too fragile to handle reality.

Honestly though the most objectionable thing is the weirdos like you who feel obliged to defend the turkey-lookin' old billionaire - he's never going to fuck you, you know that right?

>>
>>216501271
>he tried to expunge the original versions
Not really though. The VHS tapes and laser discs are still out there, and he even re-released the laser disc rips on DVD.
He simply hasn't made a concerted effort to remaster the movies in HD, and release them again, which he doesn't actually have an obligation to do.

Stephen King officially took Rage out of print after the Columbine shooting. No one gives him shit over that, because it was his decision to make. You can still find the book if you want to read it. It's just not going to be a freshly published copy.

So everyone's gonna se the poll that the abominable snowman's arm was attached to that George Lucas hid on the DVD. Great. There needs to be a new cut of the trilogy that keeps the changes where Lucas was removing actual flaws such as props being visible in the shots and removes all the unnecessary junk he added in like making the streets of Tatooine crowded before the cantina scene. Keep the new song at the end of Jedi though. Everyone knows that one is better even though they'll argue that it isn't.

I just want them to retcon the added dialogue they gave Vader at the end of Jedi. It blows my mind that there are now people who think he actually yelled no before killing the Emperor. It's so idiotic and unlike Vader, and destroys the scene. I can see Revenge of the Sith Vader saying that, but that's basically a different character. Vader in the original trilogy was a genius. Anakin and Vader in the prequels was a bumbling idiot.

Also, fuck Revenge of the Sith. It's the worst Star Wars movie made by George Lucas and I fucking hate the people who like it. It's the Room of the Star Wars saga.

The there were audio differences depending on what theater you saw it at, too. Not just mono vs stereo- there were alternate takes, different sound effects for some things, different dubbed voices (Beru, the voices over PA during battle if Yavin, etc.) The 2027 version will likely be a new mix for modern theaters, not the Day 1, 1977 mix. Perhaps a home version would include all different mixes to chose from.
>>
>>216510534
There's one good prequel and that's Attack of the Clones. Its problems are the minimalist dialogue and the overuse of CGI. Phantom was like a great film that got sullied with a bunch of complete idiocy. Revenge is just complete idiocy from start to finish.
>It's dark
Compare the lightsaber duel at the end of Revenge of the Sith to the one in Phantom. The latter looks intense and real, almost like something that actually happened, which is also true for the duels in Empire and Jedi. Then look at the one at the end of Revenge. It looks like a slapstick comedy reel. See, the Phantom Menace could be serious, but it also threw in a bunch of goofy shit. Revenge of the Sith is constantly trying to be serious, and yet it's always goofy. It looks like a Bollywood movie.

What would you guys say to Disney most likely not showing the original 1977 classic regardless of what they're telling everyone?
It's going to be the 1981 re-edit with the new title, or people are going to be massively surprised and it will contradict official Lucasfilm and elder nerd "facts" on all websites forever.
Seems like Disney won't rock the boat, so it'll be the 1981 version instead. That version isn't just audio edited, it's also scene edited and rearranged.
I will prove this soon in a book with proof from Lucasfilm.

The one they showed a few months ago was a Day 1 1977 print, that had a 1981 crawl spliced onto it when they goind it in storage. But they also found the Day 1 crawl that was removed from it in storage with it, and spliced it back on before they showed it. So I guess it depends on if that print is what this re-release is scanned from. I'm just happy to see it in theaters again as an old man. Last time I saw the pre-SEs in theaters was when the local giant screen (which has since been torn down) showed all 3 back to back in maybe 1991 or 1992. It was before the first widescreen VHS version came out, I know that for certain.
>>
>>216511571
>>
>>216511216
No, it wasn't. Even if it was bad, he still said dialogue at that moment in the scene. The "no" in Return of the Jedi completely destroyed the emotional intelligence of that scene. You're supposed to imagine what was going through his head. It also gives away what's about to happen so when he finally does throw the Emperor, it's less abrupt. Announcing that he was about to do that to the audience ruined everything that scene built up. It was the best scene in the entire saga and George Lucas decided to ruin it out of spite because people laughed at the "no" in Revenge of the Sith. "Bring my shuttle" vs "alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival" doesn't have anywhere the amount of impact as adding dialogue to the scene where he kills the Emperor. The change in Empire is arguably better because it makes Vader seem more aloof, which he is. Anyway, I shouldn't have written such a long response to this bait post.

>>
>>216511832
I only said it was better to highlight how dumb you are for thinking that change is in any way more severe than the one in Jedi. Either one could be included and I wouldn't give a fuck, but I am leaning towards "alert my star destroyer" being more in line with Vader's aloof personality. My entire point was that you're an idiot for thinking that change was worse, and you can't even argue with what I'm saying beyond calling me a retard because you're stupid and can't actually think.

>So I guess it depends on if that print is what this re-release is scanned from.

That makes a lot of sense.

>I'm just happy to see it in theaters again as an old man. Last time I saw the pre-SEs in theaters was when the local giant screen (which has since been torn down) showed all 3 back to back in maybe 1991 or 1992. It was before the first widescreen VHS version came out, I know that for certain.

True! So true, we should be grateful and I am, but you know us Star Wars fans, we're perfectionists. Let's see, the last time I saw "the originals" in a theater pre-Special Edition was probably in 1985.

*dino-to-dino fist bump*

It actually did spoil his reveal in Return of the Jedi, so it worked out that it wasn't used in the original cut. It's better to hear about Jabba for the entire trilogy only to see that he's not even really a person but a big, hideous blob.

All I'm saying is that if the original they choose to show conforms to the official VHS tape, it isn't the original, it's the 1981 version and it goes far beyond the insertion of ANH into the crawl. So, if that's what they do, it'll be a shame because it makes the entire thing qualified.

Sounds like you're just grasping at straws to find any excuse to say that Empire isn't the best film of the trilogy 'cause you want to be special. Yoda was talking about Vader. I know that Jedi reframed it in such a way that made it seem like it was Leia, but even then that wouldn't reduce to quality of Empire to the point of it not being as good as a New Hope. That's retarded. Yoda just sensed that there was another hope besides Luke without knowing who it was. It's a good line.

That scene added a ton of soul. You can argue all day and night for how unintelligent it was, but the fact remains that it did what it was supposed to do. It made you feel like maybe Darth Vader was just going to kill him or maim him badly, worse than what that wampa did.

Remember it's the first sequel to Not Flash Gordon.
>>
>>216512091
>But I'm just saying they do have a Day 1 print, and they showed it to an audience this year.

I highly doubt it's a day one print, anon. If it were, we'd hear at least one or two leaks regarding how significantly different it is to the 1982 official VHS tape;et al.

>I guess we'll know in 14 months
That's for sure and I'm a bit excited.

Leia was shown to be force sensitive at the end of Empire by sensing that they needed to go back and save Luke, so it's entirely possible that it was Leia. It's even possible that it was planned that she was related to Luke as early as Empire. The idea that Lucas had no plan is just an idea that people thought made them sound really cool when saying it so they've been beating everyone over the head with it for years. It's possible that he was debating a lot of it, but it's not a fact like you gigachads are so adamant about.

The first final edit is supposedly the real original.
>>

They showed it twice I think. So a few hundred people saw it. How many people out of those few hundred would know the difference? Certainly not the retards who wrote the reviews I read. You'd know. I might know. But normies wouldn't know. I was 2 in 1977, so I don't know if I saw a May 25th print, a wide release print, or what. Probably both because I saw it in the theater so many times back then. Then of course every re-release. I remember my dad explaining why "it's episode IV now". KK said the print they found was from the initial release. That could mean May 1977, or that could mean the altered July 1977 release. Both would be correct. But she did say it may be THE first print the UK got. Which to me, means the limited release print from May.

Everyone. There's two differences that are radically altered from the official VHS, lasers, and DVDs. I think you and I just reasoned out that it was most likely not the real original.

>That could mean May 1977, or that could mean the altered July 1977 release. Both would be correct

Ok you hit on something that I think escapes most of us and I agree with you there. I can try and get super technical, but we both know what you said is perfectly valid in the spirit of it all.
But.... you just know that I can't let it go, especially if I can prove it. It all goes back to the original being so different in at least two parts that I can't imagine even the more normie of all normies not noticing.

By the time it got there, there was no actual reason given other than that he just decided to. Sure, he wanted to save his wife. That's not going to make him massacre a bunch of kids. That just makes one think he was never a good guy and deserved to get fucked up. There's no cause and effect in that movie, things just happen because they're supposed to happen to get you to a New Hope. The Dark Side isn't logical you retard. Anakin went to the Dark to save his wife and because of the hypocrisy of the Jedi and soon lost the plot and started talking about his new Empire because that's what the Dark Side is, it corrupts and destroys your soul.
>People spent six years waiting to see how he became Vader and the answer Revenge offers is "he just did."
Comnpletely ignore all the previous prequels establishing his traumas, the Jedi's clear abuse of him, Palpatine grooming him from childhood, his secret relationship, war trauma... yeah no you're just a nigger who needed Anakin to go on a monologue about how he's now evil because you can't get basic subtext

>>
>>216512778
How are you so retarded you have no basic ability to understand what films tell you
THE DARK SIDE CORRUPTS. THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE POINT. In RotJ Luke went from being a humble and heroic knight to almost choking Jabba to death and murdering his father in cold blood the second the Dark Side got slightly ahold of him. Dooku went from being much like Qui-Gon, realizing the mistakes of the Jedi and wanting to fix them, to being completely corrupted and genuinely wanting to form a group of Sith Knights who roamed the galaxy exterminating anyone he disliked which included most alien species. The Dark Side is like a drug, it's the opposite of reason, it's sin incarnate. Anakin got bit after killing Mace and his depression, his preexisting trust in Palpatine due to grooming him for decades and his desperation in saving Padme since he thought there was no other way was what made him become Vader willingly. We see how bad it gets when in Mustafar he no longer cares about Padme's health and talks about his new Empire and then chokes her the second he becomes slightly paranoid about her cheating on Obi-Wan, something Anakin would normally know is absolutely impossible
You just don't understand what the Dark Side is. You think it's just a faction or a set of superpowers. It isn't, Sheev himself murdered his whole family and master for little reason other than they slightly annoyed him

I actually don't think Lucas doing "Special Editions" was a bad thing either. Recuts of movies, variations and so on are neat idea. Like, imagine seeing a play, and it has differences in the staging from the version you saw. A movie was locked, but with technology lucas found a way to unlock them.

The problem is he then tried to keep the originals from being accessible. This tends to step into the "destroy" territory.

>>

So basically a third film of the trilogy wasn't needed then according to you. If Phantom and Attack save Revenge of the Sith alone regardless of everything that Revenge completely butchered, then Revenge basically wasn't needed because those two films already explain it. The thing is, there did need to be a third film to show how he finally flipped and became Darth Vader, and that is what Revenge of the Sith completely fails at amongst a myriad of other things such as zero cause and effect, going far out of its way to seem dark while still ending up looking goofy as fuck, and everyone in the movie acting like they had been lobotomized. No other film in the saga is going to save Revenge of the Sith from being as shitty as it is.

Yes, prequel Anakin was a bad person from the moment he hit puberty and should burn in hell forever.
>>
>>216513179
Also note that if anyone hates Vader overall, it's Vader himself. Despite being driven by the Dark still and not completely logical he does regain a lot of his reasoning after his defeat at Mustafar and the rest of his existence is basically him being a self-loathing slave to Palpatine's whims who gives up completely when Luke rejects him in ESB. It's only at the very end that he finally gets the chance to push the Light back with Luke's help
Anakin's story is genuinely tragic, he's a slave his whole life until the very end, be it to his emotions, his superiors, his duties or his guilt.

Making Palpatine Ian McDiarmid was a good decision considering the original Palpatine would just confuse people.

nixon sold out healthcare to the insurance companies, they jacked up the prices till they made billions in pure profit off of human need and suffering

This. The Prequels are OTT stupid with outrageously retarded shit like Jar Jar and dialogue like "FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, THE JEDI ARE EVIL!!"

The Sequels are just boring and uncreative. Characters like Rey make the cardboard Prequel characters seem deep and layered.

Man why did WETA bother building the sets of the streets and walls of Minas Tirith? They could have just done all blue screens and the single bigature of the exterior of the city would have been enough to convince you retards

>So cutting and entire scene according to you is ok and le epic preservation of cinema,
If you don’t understand the difference between cutting a scene the same week your movie cut out vs adding cgi garbage decades after the movie came out then you’re just being disingenuous.
>but actually keeping the scene in and adding some details
Ok so you’re just trolling

Making shit up about what? Also what did I concede?
The prequels have shitton of miniatures, costumes, etc.
Just because there isn't a physical prop for something out of 10000 designs, it won't make the movies bad.

>cinema fee
To be fair, these kinds of showings are always far cheaper than the latest Hollywood slop in the cinema near me. A beer at the theater bar costs more in some cases
>>
>>216513409
there is no reason to ever engage with people trying to pretend the SE is in the same universe as typical theatrical edits, it's all always pure dissembling in service of being a prequelshitter. They'd just post a gigachad meme if those still worked
>>
>>216513932
Okay okay I got it, cutting entire scenes is saving cinema, but keeping the scene in and adding some details is the destruction of cinema.
Love the retardlogic here.

If you truly trust George's love and vision of the series, then you better accept his decision to trust Disney and no one else with his IPs.

I can't find conclusive proof, but having kids softened his views, at least temporarily.
I mean, he cuts out violence from the original Star Wars, and then proceeds to have Anakin murder dem keeids.
>>
>>216516771
for better or worse the guy is obsessed with developing film technology, so he was way too eager to incorporate new cgi into his films

>he was way too eager to incorporate new cgi into his films

This^ Did you guizes know that Lucas paid for a CGI test on a supercomputer in 1978? He had CGI X-Wings in 1978. They weren't even half bad, just needed some more touch ups. Glad he abandoned though, otherwise Empire would have been ruined, Jedi possibly as well.

Has the theatrical cut of Blade Runner even been remastered for 4k?
They released it as a curiosity back on Bluray, I think, but it is clearly not Ridley's preferred version.

When I was a kid, I've watched the OT movies on a busted VHS player that really liked to turn green lightsabers into orange ones. I've thought Luke has an orange lightsaber, just like in Jedi Academy.
I don't remember Endor being orange, funnily enough.
>>
>>216517275
why is revealing Jabba as a slug in the third movie even necessary? It's not like it's a plot twist
>>
"Having more versions is bad. You need to be an autistic loser like me and say there can only be one version"

Every discourse on this subject

Because he looked cool and it showed imaginations. It wasn't a Star Trek character with a slight nose ridge, it was something that maybe could exist way out there somewhere a long time ago.

>>
>>216517605
Literally no one has said it would be bad for as many versions as possible to be readily available in every format.

It's more this whole angle that George has done something uniquely evil and barbarous by focusing on his preferred version of his own movie, which really is not very rare in at all the world of film.
When was the last time we got the not-Director's Version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture? I don't think that's on 4K at all.
>>
>>216517658
that wasn't the question. Why is it a necessary reveal in RotJ?
>>
>>216517734
Other filmmakers aren't CEOs that purposely ignore fan pleading, so Lucas actually is uniquely a cunt in that aspect~
>>
>>216517751
>Why is it a necessary reveal in RotJ?
Because his character was spoken of in the original film, vinyl record stories (Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell) set before Empire, and then finally mentioned again in The Empire Strikes Back.
Who was gonna have Solo in RotJ, Donald Duck?
