>Don you son of a bitch, here's a $600,000 salary, house in the suburbs, Manhattan penthouse, and luxury car you fucking genius!
He earned it
the other side of those perks>mess up 1 time with Hershey >basically get fired
>>216498764Uh yeah Duck spells it out for the audience. The selling ads are what actually makes money for the office. The actual creation and content of the ads is purely a show for the company that is buying the ad. The products like cigarettes and ketchup don’t need advertising and people will buy them no matter what. Dons job is to get the companies to give him money for basically a pretty picture with their name under it. He’s basically doing the same job as Roger but instead of giving them whores and booze telling them a story.
Reminder /ourguy/ won.
>>216498764I haven't really seen an ad in what feels like over a decade now. Yeah maybe one or two slipped past but basically, yeah. Does McDonalds still exist?
>>216498764That's a good start but a white man needs more from life. You're a shit-flinging pajeet monkey so you will never understand.
>>216498764snacks and email jobs for 60s men, they did zero work
>>216499019Thank you for explaining it... so it's not about soothing the public (they're not gonna forget about the cancer, and they didn't, lol), it's about soothing the execs with some stupid bullshit... I'm just shocked they bought it. I guess their judgement was impaired by years of carcinogens
>>216499158You're so inundated with ads that you don't realise they're there. Everything is an ad. This thread might be a fucking ad.

>>216498764>AHHHH I HAVE A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL CAREER, LOVING FAMILY, AND PERFECT HOME. IM GOING INSANE NOOOO
>>216498892>entire season is Don lashing out at his coworkers, drinking himself into a stupor, and constantly and often deliberately fucking up at work>"Why did they fire him he only made one mistake"
>>216499503Marketing is 90% scamming your employer and 10% scamming the customer.
>>216499503The idea behind "It's Toasted" was that Don realized that every cigarette company was having the same panicked conversation and having to throw out all their marketingSimultaneously the average American smoker didn't give a shit about cancer, but the conversation surrounding cigarettes was essentially throwing cold water on any effort to sell them using the conventional strategiesSo it was commercial gridlock. Everyone was paralyzed. So by saying "Lucky Strike: They're Toasted", they had a way for the company to "distinguish" themselves from five other identical products without lying or trying to make cigarettes appear cool. It was meaningless, but in a moment where saying anything seemed impossible it gave Lucky Strike an angle to get back into marketing their product before anyone else could.

>>216500585Duck wouldve loved the modern world's soulless approach to marketing >"We use AI to insert products into the programs our customers are already watching. Most of the time they won't even know they're being advertised to.">But how does that convince anybody that any specific product or experience is right for them? Or their family? You're just shoving products in their face haphazardly. Where's the artistry?>"Don... When the economy is good, people buy things..."
>>216498892He was still a partner. He got a vacation as "punishment" for fucking up. Normies don't get that kind of deference. They simply get fired.

who is Duck?
>>216498764Why did Mad Men never reach the same level of cultural status as The Sopranos, The Wire, or Breaking Bad?

>>216502668>only one interesting characterDon>only two sexual characters Sally and Betty>plotsContrived problem > Don solves it. That's it. Usually it's an advertising problem. I'm actually surprised they were able to drag it out as long as they did. The only kino was Don presenting the ads to the customers, and the drinking scenes, but they are some of the best (and /tv/ obviously agrees based upon how much they are reposted here)

>>216504931its so dumb, literally the biggest ad campaigns of all time were shit like "got milk?" and "beef, it's what's for dinner" that a literal retarded child could think up
>>216504931It's active memetics, most humans can barely grasp basic grammar.
>>216502668Plot lacked a grander arc. Felt contrived and slapped together, like it could have gone on two seasons or fifteen for bullshit reasons. You finish Breaking Bad and you're thinking "damn that was a story"- it wasn't some strung together bullshit with some neatly packed episodes with the expected cliff hangers and nonsense to lineup with the commercial break
