How did The Matrix directors predict we'd be trapped culturally in the 20th century?
>>
>>216500490
Erm, the 20th century is 1900-2000....

In the matrix the virtual world is perpetually in 1999.

anon you think it is the year 2025. actually it's closer to 1999

anyone remotely aware of the real world knew the internet would lock "culture" (read: shared experience) to 1999
>>216500512
the 20th century doesn't end until the first day of 2002, as there is no 0th year, thus decades are only from 1st to 11th year.
>>
>>216500490
The directors were pretty familiar with postmodern (or adjacent) philosophy given Neo picks up a book by Baudrillard. The cultural stagnation (and repetition) of postmodernity was already commented on by Frederic Jameson in the 1980s, predating the Matrix. Keen observers of art already observed a move towards pastiche and parody in lieu of genuine novelty.
>>
>>216500779
Literally all of this "philosophy" is mental masturbation meaningless nonsense.
There's nothing objectively true about it.
>>
>>216500799
Okay, thanks for this meaningless response.

It was cute when you used the quotation marks as if the word philosophy is some big fancy word that you had to knock down a peg.
>>
>>216500850
>Okay, thanks for this meaningless response.
It's not meaningless because it's actually true unlike 90% of "philosophy"

You people are basically like flat earthers. Yapping a whole lot about nothing.

It's hard enough in any philosophy to demonstrate objective truthfulness, at least with a satisfactory standard of rigor. Mostly we go by convergence, i.e., independent groups systematically deriving the same models or conclusions. If you disagree with this notion of truthfulness then we practically have to discount all sense experience.
Given that people across the political spectrum have independently recreated Jameson's critique (along with the critiques by many other postmodern writers), then it does speak to some element of the cultural zeitgeist which is 'true'. Culture does feel stagnant, there is a ubiquity of pastiche, reboots, etc.

And even if it's not true, it doesn't really matter for this conversation, because it was still inspirational for the Matrix and is clearly referenced within the film.

>AI capturing of voice exists to replicate it perfectly
>AI is currently capable of scanning a person and creating a near-photorealistic image of them
>AI can technically be trained on a person's behavior to the point it might be indistinguishable from the real person

All of this is advancing daily. The conclusion is that soon AI "people" are going be interacting with real people in a way that will not be able to be distinguished or even kept track of. And once robot bodies are sufficiently advanced these entities will be in the real world too.
In fact, there is no way of knowing if it's not the year 5000 and we're not living in a 21th century theme park and we're not already those entities.

Scientific truth is based on consensus. That's why replication is so important and why the replication crisis is so serious.
The only other truths are logical/mathematical but these don't tell you anything about the world of sense experience.
Bringing up "objective truth" in the latter context makes no sense. It's just a bad attempt at disavowing philosophies you don't like.

It's based on a priori and deductive reasoning, not the consensus.
Who the fuck is dumb enough to believe the truth is whatever the majority thinks it is.

Because those "philosophies" aren't logical and are just mental masturbation for pseuds.

>>
>>216501631
Every scientific model is downstream of sense information gathered by experiment or observation. Consensus is required to verify (as best as possible) that your sense information isn't faulty. If you're a schizo then you can't deductively reason because your sense data is wrong. This is why replication is a major part of science. Why do you think the replication crisis is a crisis?

>Who the fuck is dumb enough to believe the truth is whatever the majority thinks it is.
Because you don't have access to perfect information about the world and you can't always trust your own senses. Just because you have an a priori formulation of something doesn't make it right. What you keep calling objective knowledge is you smuggling away a bunch of implicit assumptions about things and then pretending you're engaging with the real world when you're really engaging with an illusion you created.
>>
>>216502412
Most "philosophy" cannot be replicated. It's just mental masturbation.

>you can't always trust your own senses.
What do you mean senses? I use my brain and logical reasoning.

>Just because you have an a priori formulation of something doesn't make it right.
Holy shit you're one of those retards lmao
>1+1=2 isn't real it's just your opinion maaan

>illusion you created.
See this is why most philosophy is illogical garbage and laughed at by actual scientists.
>>
>>216501804
I think time advanced for a number of years past 1999 but was eventually reset again and again when new generations were born.
>>
>>216501031
years and dates aren’t real
a few hundred years ago everyone just agreed to pretend the current year was the random number that they came up with
>>
>>216502679
>What do you mean senses?
We're discussing science. The aim is to build models which describe the world. You need to interact with the world, which means using your senses. You use your eyes, ears, touch, etc., or some tools which are just extensions of those senses. Those senses are fallible so you need some way of reassuring yourself that you're correct. Consensus fills that gap. It's not strictly rigorous but it's the best thing you can do.
Look up "scientific realism vs scientific antirealism", which covers convergent arguments among others.

>>1+1=2 isn't real it's just your opinion maaan
Mathematical truths are different because they don't require interacting with the sensory world. They follow directly from axioms. What axioms are you going to pick to describe the physical world? Aren't they going to be based on sensory information? Then see the first point.

>See this is why most philosophy is illogical garbage
No, it's maximally logical and that's the problem. People want objective truth but they can't actually show anything is objectively true outside some mathematical derivations.
>>

Just go back to Ancient Greece. All of this new age bullshit philosophy of “mehhh there is no objective truth!” is just a circular, horse shit, overly wrought way to justify cutting off your dick and declaring yourself a woman. About the last 1,000 years of philosophy has been striving for that achievement. With absolute certainty the last 100 years of it sure as fuck has been.
