This show was a smart way of pushing diversity quotas without offending people. They got too arrogant by believing it was a fish out water show because that led to this 'Blacks can be British too' progressive nonsense.

The show isn't about the White detective. Its about the island and its inhabitants learning to deal with an outsider. Britain is already diverse and multicultural. He's not having to adapt, its part of his job. But they have to learn to keep up with a western inner city detective

Always thought this would be an absolute plum gig if you were a reasonably well know British TV actor in your 40s. Spend a few months of the year in the Caribbean or wherever it's set doing a low-effort detective show sounds nice and comfy.

There's a lot of people working for the BBC on indefinite contracts who just get random comfy shows to do and show on on comic relief/childreen in need in between.

Never sure if Michael Portillo gets a comfy life on his Great British XYZ shows or if it's hell trying to be friendly and make interesting TV with all those random strangers he meets. By then when I watched the Michael Palin shows where he travelled the world and at local food in random people's houses, I always wondered how often he got severe food poisoning.

Unless they're really popular, like My Family Guy or Royal Family Guy then they only last 2 series, so don't worry he will be replaced by a woman next series or in the 2026 christmas special. Doctor Who Bint or Bake Off Bint are probably in the running for that.

In the meantime My Family Guy is solving crimes in the spinoff series set in Devon.
