The first Gremlins felt like a real movie. This feels like a kid was allowed to write and direct a Gremlins sequel and was only fed sugar through the entire production.
>>216508093Joe Dante was given free reign from Warner Brothers. They only demanded him to give them a movie called "Gremlins 2".
>>216508093When a studio demands a sequel to a film that doesn't need one, you probably don't really care all that much.If you can use the higher budget to make something fun and watchable, you've done your job.
>>216508093yeah, I was never a fan of this one. You're right. The first one felt like they were trying to make sure you belived the gremlins were real creatures. This one felt like a Muppet movie.
>>216508162Warner Brothers went insane on the cross promotional aspects though, this movie was everywhere. They even made it so that you knew the names of individual gremlins (george was the grumpy one, daffy was the hyperactive one), despite them never being named in the film itself.
NUDIE NUDIE NUDIE
>>216508093>>216508321it's sad because the first one was such a great movie, I wish they had made a decent sequel
I grew up assuming everyone loved Gremlins 2. Finding out later that people didn't like it and that only pretentious faggots gushed about it broke me. Finding out I was internally a youtube video essayist was the worst day of my life.
>>216508522You're not alone, I loved the film and thought it was well liked.Hook is another one although as I got older I do kinda get what they say about the Lost Boys stuff taking too long.
>>216508552Yeah, that one too.
>>216508093Was the loony tunes intro not subtle enough?
>>216508552critics seemed to like it better than the public.
>>216508552>the Lost Boys stuff taking too long.?the movie was too long?
>>216508093It was a movie for kids
>>216508093Yes OP, that’s why gremlins 2 is fucking excellent, maybe even better than gremlins 1. Different objectives, both excellent results. It’s like doing Kill Bill & then turning around and doing Grindhouse. Kill Bill & Gremlins 1 are straightforward movies to be taken on the fave of it, & then Grindhouse & Gremlins 2 are the Directors as 8yo boys playing on the living room floor with all their toys & just smashing them up for the pure fun of it.
>>216508093Holy filtered
>>216508709Critics thought all the references to good movies meanet Gremlins 2 was a good movie.
Gremlins 1 is too cliche and fake-christmasy. It pretends to be a real movie but the only people who thinks it's better than its sequel as a movie are midwits NPCs who can't use their brain to reason out what entertainment really is. 2 is stock filled with entertainment, 1 isn't.
>>216508726142 minutes is a loooong time for a kid friendly family film. Even moreso in the 90s.
>>216509170terminator 2 was 188 minutes long and its among the best kiddie family movies ever made from the 1991s
>>216509280Hook aimed at a younger/broader audience.
>>2165080932 is so much better than 1
>>216509280no tits means its an R rated family movie.
>>216509170The Lost Boys was not that long.it was 97 minutes
>>216508093Yeah that's why it's great.
>>216509464Anon...
Team Hulkster or Team John Wayne?
>>216509555Hulkamania
>>216508093Yes and it was fucking amazimg. We will never have a turely free spirited movie like this again. Also spoiler but WWYD
>>216508093>Umm AKSHUALLY, this fucking sucks!OP is a faggot.

>>216508093Low brow flicks, 'fraid to sayThe special effects sloppa of the 80's
>In keeping with Dante's desires to satirize the original film, the sequel has some meta-references and self-referential humor. These include a cameo appearance by film critic Leonard Maltin. He holds up a copy of the original Gremlins home video and denounces it, just as he had in reality; however, his rant is cut short when gremlins assault him. Partly for this scene, one academic called Dante "one of contemporary cinema's great pranksters."

>Christopher Lee plays a doctor could CushingNever caught that.
>>216508522This. Gremlins 2 is hilarious, a rare masterpiece of 80s popular cinema.
>>216508883> Why yes, Gremlins is my favourite xmas flick
I legitimately think something is mentally wrong with you if you don't enjoy Gremlins 2.
>>216510314Anyone thats hates Gremlins 2 only does it because some thinking cap faggot online told them too. The movie is a god damn experiance unique to itself
>>216510219I don't think they ever say his first name in the movie. His name is Dr. Catheter
Growing up i saw gremlins 2 first and loved it. Then I saw gremlins 1 and the darker tone and lack of commitment to the comedy just came off as weird
>>216508093I grew up watching Gremlins 2 over and over on the VHS but I never saw Gremlins until much later. dunno why that was
Gremlins 2 is unironically one of the best movies of all time. It filters midwits who take it at face value.

>>216511543I'm glad I could help you.
I always sing praises of this film, but one thing that never gets talked about is how good the soundtrack is. Jerry Goldsmith was god tier.
>>216511543Your lucky the Hulkster aint around mo more to hear you disparage his opus.
>>216511727We all know what his opus is
>>216511727Theater legit lost their shit because at that point the movie was comfortably off the rails and the audience was into the ride.
